Using Babel templates

Hello. I was confused by your use of the Babel template not working. I played with it (somewhere else) and found that the blank spaces were confusing the template. When I changed it to

{{Babel-6|de|la-2|en-3|ru-1|nds-1|hess-1}}

it worked 'better'. Fix them in your page and see what happens.

But it seems that there is no definition here for ru-1 , nds-1, or hess-1 . I think they would be 'easy' to create. Look at Template:·Users by language (la-2) for one example. (Note that the 'name' of one of these templates has some strange character after 'Template:' - it is not a blank character. I had to copy and paste to get the correct character)

Hmmm, I was able to make Template:·Users by language (ru-1), butUser:TimothyChenAllen and User:Mnd are the experts at this.

Wow, I can find en:Template:User_nds-1 and en:Template:User_hess-1 over at English wikipedia, but they are in some strange languages! ;-) I know the word Plattdeutsch a little, and maybe Hessian, but can you describe these in English?

I had realized that something was not working but had to postpone fixing it due to more urgent work to do.

Sure can I tell something about the languages. Both are dialects of German (Wow! Linguists protest. Both are Language groups and 'dialect' is a non-scientific term) OK, that said,

* nds has its own Wikipedia, read last paragraph of nds, I could not find a map where these languages are spoken - they extend from the Dutch North through the German federal state of Lower Saxony (Western and Northern part only, which excludes the river Rhine and the Hannover area) along the coast including the cities of Bremen and Hamburg, though parts of German federal state Schleswig-Hostein into Denmarks South, East through parts of the German federal state of Mecklenburg and Vorpommern into coastal areas of Poland. Scientifically, some old Fresian speaking areas should be excluded, but I doubt that writers are feeling so. Imho these are best described as the "Lower Saxony, East Low German, and coastal area language group" or shorter, the "Lower Saxony and neighboring languages", or "Contemporary Low German Languages" - as opposed to Low German which is the predecessor of these languas plus dutch, parts of english, and more.

* hess does not have its own Wikipedia. I do not know whether one is planned. There is a move and a discussion to have hess removed for various reasons. de:Hessen is a federal state in the center of Germay, and the local languages mainly spoken there plus in few adjacent areas, including most prominently the southern vincinity of Frankfurt. I suggest to wait for hess to be kome stable, then call it "Hessen's Languages" or similar.

I do not really speak any of the various languages in either group, although I basically understand them. One of my native languages de:Kölsch is spoken in the area between them, belonging to a language group called ripuarian. There is no Babel template for Kölsch or the ripuarian language group yet.
