Chanute, Kansas
Chanute (/ʃəˈnuːt/) is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. It was created on January 1, 1873. It was named after railroad engineer and aviation pioneer Octave Chanute.[4][5] In 2020, 8,722 people lived there.[3] The Neosho County Community College is in Chanute.

changeThe United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 7.22 square miles (18.70 km2). Of that, 7.10 square miles (18.39 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) is water.[2]

changeThe 2020 census says that there were 8,722 people, 3,530 households, and 2,154 families living in Chanute. Of the households, 61.3% owned their home and 38.7% rented their home.
The median age was 37.0 years. Of the people, 86.4% were White, 1.4% were Black, 1.2% were Native American, 0.7% were Asian, 0.1% were Pacific Islanders, 2.3% were from some other race, and 8.0% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.1% of the people.[3][9]

changeThe 2010 census[10] says that there were 9,119 people, 3,720 households, and 2,322 families living in Chanute.

changeBus service goes north towards Kansas City, Missouri. It also goes south towards Tulsa, Oklahoma. Buses are by Jefferson Lines (subcontractor of Greyhound Lines).[11][12]
