The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 11.72 square miles (30.35 km2). Of that, 11.66 square miles (30.20 km2) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km2) is water.[2]

The 2020 census says there were 23,287 people, 8,005 households, and 5,938 families living in Gardner. Of the households, 66.1% owned their home and 33.9% rented their home.

The median age was 32.6 years. Of the people, 79.2% were White, 3.9% were Black, 1.8% were Asian, 0.6% were Native American, 0.1% were Pacific Islanders, 3.6% were from some other race, and 10.8% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.2% of the people.[3][7]
