The album was first hinted at in November 2014 by then-Toronto Raptor DeMar DeRozan.[2] The songs "Know Yourself" and "Jungle" were both briefly played in Drake's short movie Jungle.[3]
The mixtape did not have any official release date announcement beforehand and was dropped as a surprise.[4]
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 535,000 album-equivalent units.[5] If You're Reading This It's Too Late would be certified 4× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[6]
The album features the singles "Preach" which was released on March 29, 2015 and "Energy" on July 10, 2015.
