Antofagasta Province
The Province of Antofagasta (Spanish: Provincia de Antofagasta) is one of three provinces in the northern Chilean region of Antofagasta (II). The capital is the port city of Antofagasta.

Geography

The Antofagasta province is bordered on the north by the Tocopilla and El Loa provinces, on the east by Argentina, on the south by the Atacama region (Chañaral province) and on the west by the Pacific Ocean.
Population
changeAs of 2002[update] (last national census), there were 318,779 people living in the province, giving it a population density of 4.7 inhabitants/km².[2]
The largest city of the province is Antofagasta, its capital, with a population, in 2002, of 285,255 inhabitants.
Administration
changeAs a province, the Antofagasta province is a second-level administrative division, consisting of four communes (comunas). The city of Antofagasta serves as the provincial capital. The province is administered by a governor.
