Is a Lamprey a fish? change
I added a few sentences about those "fish" in English that aren't really fish. Problem there the Haghfish and Lampreys are "Agnatha" (jawless). I am not a biologist, and I am unclear whether they are fish. Please rectify as you see fit. --Eptalon (talk) 19:58, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, they are fish. Even though "fish" is a rather loose common-language term, it is nevertheless still used by professionals to label vertebrates which get their oxygen from water. The difference is that professionals also use a more complex classification scheme. This lets them say things like "land vertebrates evolved from Sarcopterygian fishes" (lobe-finned fishes). First paragraph change
The first paragraph is unnecessarily complex. First, do fish actually have fingers and toes? How is that possible? Second, where it says "This is a definition which does not quite work". Are there any amphibians whose adults have no limbs, and have gills but no lungs? If not, just remove that sentence, because it's highly unlikely that anybody would confuse amphibians with fish.
