Improving this to a GA or VGA

change
  • Provide refs wherever possible
  • Check for fluidity in reading
  • Avoid complex sentences (the Ritual Decalogue probably needs simplifying)

Find simpler words than covet, denomination, imperative, revelation, explicitly and ordinance? MC8 (b · t) 20:30, Thursday April 30 2009 (UTC)

Ritual Decalogue has been simplified. Jonahson (talk) 18:10, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Orthodoxy?

change

As a result, many Roman Catholic Churches and services feature images, some feature statues, and in some Orthodox services, icons are venerated.

Are we referring to Eastern Orthodoxy in this sentence or is there an "Orthodox" group of Catholics? --Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:55, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think this refers to the Eastern Orthodox --Eptalon (talk) 19:55, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Need at least two paragraphs in the lead.
  • Mt. Sinai ->Mount Sinai i.e. spell it out.
  • "The commandments can be found in the Bible in the book of Exodus chapter 20 and in slightly different form in the book of Deuteronomy chapter 5." - not incredibly simple - perhaps split.
  • "They are also implied ..." not simple at all.
  • Plenty of [needs proving] tags, and the language in "Commandments in the Bible" section needs linking or correct and simple explanation.
  • " imperative statements" is not Simple.
  • Neither is "preface"
  • Commandments in the table are phrased very differently from those in the section entitled "Commandments in the Bible" - potentially very confusing.
  • Denomination, Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Reformed, "other Christian" probably all need to be linked, explained or whatever. I don't know what they mean so why someone reading from a Simple English perspective should is unclear to me.
  • "What others say about them" hardly an effective heading.
  • Maintenance tags tell a story - the Sabbath day section needs a serious Simple English copyedit.
  • Is "academic theologians" really Simple?
  • "The problem with images of God" section is just a vast collection of single sentence paragraphs with little citation. It needs work.

Section "In the Bible"

change

Verse 2 needs repair. 94.30.84.71 (talk) 20:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Difficulty

change

The page presents English of different levels of difficulty, but most notably it presents the ten commandments in a Basic English version. Also, the King James version of the Bible is very widely known, and is appropriate as the main source of the Basic English version.

Some of the other sections may be too difficult, and they might be so flagged. The page as a whole should not be flagged, IMO. Macdonald-ross (talk) 22:04, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Possible sourcing of the Text

change

Please add, as required:

Likely, we are looking ofr the 3-4 most common Bible translations into English; I don't expect a lot of variation the text. --Eptalon (talk) 10:12, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

General Editing

change

The page should have a general, overall editing to clean up some of the wording and bring it to a standard fluency. Some of it seems choppy, some of it is written at a very basic grade level. Perhaps this level of effort should be included when rewritten to included the other translations suggested above. Kearsarge03216 (talk) 02:51, 30 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Good point, one of the problems with lots of editors making lots of small changes is that clear, well written fluency is sometime sacrificed. A review needed.--Peterdownunder (talk) 04:35, 30 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

There is also the issue of the incorrect comma in the very first sentence. Acaciagold (talk) 04:31, 1 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

There is an error in the table under "Different numbering": Honor your Father and Mother should be number 5 (not 10) in the column "Most other Christians"
