Chloe Anderson is a transgender woman who is also an opposite and outside hitter in volleyball.[1] She is the first transgender athlete in Santa Ana College since its start.[2] Anderson began her transition from male to female at the age of 19 after years of feeling like she was assigned the wrong gender.[3] Before her transition, she had always felt like she didn't belong with the boys, she felt like she belonged with the girls.[2]
Early life
changeAnderson's childhood was based around Long Beach, California.[4] In preschool, she loved playing princesses and dressing up.[1] A while before kindergarten she started getting bullied. She got beat up almost every day for about 7 years.[2] When she was in middle school, she started failing classes, trying not to get noticed.[1] Her only target was to not get noticed.[1] She only felt excited about playing volleyball.[1]
Family
changeAnderson’s mother wasn't accepting of her new daughter's decision because she assumed Anderson was only cross-dressing.[2] Eventually, she learned to accept her daughter.[2]
