Just a question, but why did you block this IP for 1 year? His edits don't seem to support a block that long. Razorflame 20:26, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I was waiting for you to ask that. I kept refreshing my talk page :). Netoholic blocked him earlier for 6 months and blocks are usually around double previous blocks (24 hours --> 32 hours, 1 month --> 3 months etc). --Gwib -(talk)- 20:33, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
No offense given, but Netoholic wasn't exactly a stable administrator... Razorflame 20:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
None taken, but that doesn't usually imply inexperience. I'm sure you of all people know just how experienced an editor needs to be to become an admin. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Whoever do you think knows that? :P *cookie* Razorflame 20:41, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Hehe, thanks for the comestible (oh yes, I use unnecessarily long words). --Gwib -(talk)- 20:54, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Nah, not too long for me. At least you didn't underwhelm me with your response! Who knows? I could've used some alimentation myself :) Razorflame 20:56, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Blocking

I've noticed you've recently blocked accounts as vandalism only accounts with no warning given (such as Mac AttackZ and Anil786). Before blocking please give vandals warnings and if they continue to vandalize after a final warning, then block them. Both account's edits may have been good faith test edits. You may block them right away if their obvious sockpuppets.-- Lights  talk  15:56, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Right, wasn't sure whether or not accounts could be treated in the same way as IP addresses. Thanks for updating me. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey

Do you think I'm ready to put up another RFA to become an admin? SwirlBoy39 23:11, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I think that, even if you've already read WP:CFA, WP:ADMIN, WP:RULES, you should edit here for a couple of months before requesting again. We need administrators here to know every single type of problem and how to deal with it quickly and efficiently which takes some time to learn. --Gwib -(talk)- 23:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Request

Hello, Giwb. Could you please allow me to use this code which you use in this talk page? I meant code of your talk page.. I need to use it in my Swahili talk page and here also. Please allow me...--RecorDprodUceR (talK 2 mE) 14:57, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Sure. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I am disappointed with this article. This page, at best, is just a collection of short stubs about many of the different events of World War I. Before I added some sources to the first part of the article, this whole article was completely unsourced. It would also seem that, by looking at the English Wikipedia's version of this article, that we are lacking in this article, and that some of the information presented in this article is either incorrect, or is unsourced. Clearly, this is an article that is critical to a Wikipedia, because of how big of a historical event it was, so shouldn't our version of this article be as in-depth and critical as some of the other Wikipedia's versions of this article? I recently thought that this article would be a good GA, but after going in-depth into this article, I have decided that this article would need a lot of work before I believe that it will be able to even be able to pass the GA requirements. I would like to suggest you take a look at this page and help to fix this article up to make it as good of a GA as possible. Thanks for reading this long message. Razorflame 15:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

What are you on about? I cleaned that article up, other than that I made no specific contributions to it and here you are reproaching me for making "a collection of short stubs".
I think that your attitude is completely unacceptable and I think that you are clever enough to realize when what you are writing is insulting or not. I felt deeply condescended by this smear on my talk page, telling me what to look at and how you've apparently gone out of your way to clear up my mistakes which I didn't even make in the first place.
Jog on, why don't you? --Gwib -(talk)- 16:45, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
This wasn't what I was saying at all. I was merely stating that I think that our version of this article is not very in-depth. I was not saying that your clean up of this article was at all a mistake, even if it seems that way. I am merely stating the fact that I think this article is not long enough or in-depth enough right now. I was merely asking if you would be willing to look at it again and add references, or copyedit the article more. Razorflame 18:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Then simply ask: "would you be willing to look at this again and add references, or copyedit the article more?" instead of "I have decided that this article would need a lot of work before I believe that it will be able to even be able to pass the GA requirements" as if we are all incompetent editors and you take it upon yourself to be a good Samaritan and try to clean up what you perceive as our mess. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:45, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks very much! I don't get many messages anymore and seeing the orange bar up there once again made me smile. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:25, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Why didn't you say so? I can easily help lift the mood of a new message! Just tell me what you want to talk about and I will happily send you messages :) Razorflame 19:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I'd love to talk! But school (stereotype excuse) has literally got me by a stranglehold.
English, biology and chemistry mostly absorb my time here like huge sponges of boredom and I adore coming to edit here. I felt happy to see you couldn't hold up a wikibreak for long either (same here, this is my cyber drug fix) but I can't go on the edit bouts that I regularly went on before. All I can do is to QD pages and maybe add a link or correct grammar on articles. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:37, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
For me, it's the exact opposite. I edit Wikipedia out of boredom because there isn't anything else better to do during school (when I don't have classes). When I get home, I usually go onto my other site that I love going to (playing Scrabble). I usually pop in to do the usual create a misc. page here and there, post up some replies to stuff on my talk page etc., but I if I am to become an administrator on here, then I will most likely increase my activity from home for a while, then slowly go back to what I used to (I will try to edit at least once or twice a day. Hope this helps :) Razorflame 19:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
My ****** teachers work us like dogs here... Swiss education system be damned! This might be a personal question, but what do you want to do when you grow up? It's a big step in our (teenagers in general) lives and I was wondering what other people are drawn to. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:48, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I have ideas, but nothing solid yet. I'm thinking about these possibilities:

  • Translator
  • A person who works with words for a living
  • Physics teacher (maybe?)

I really liked Physics when I took it, but I'm not sure if it was just the teacher that made it so enjoyable, or the actual content. Cheers, Razorflame 19:51, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't surprise me that you like physics. Mythbusters, CSI, (Monk to a certain extent :P) and scrabble are all physics - mathmatics related on some level. Bad luck about the teacher conflict though, they can demolish our future goals for us without realising it. I loved spanish (note past tense) and a cruel, unforgiving teacher took that from me. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Just a question, but how is Scrabble physics-related? Razorflame 20:03, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, mixed it up with Sudoku! Half asleep (You can relate, I think) and still have maths to finish off. "Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, creeps in this petty pace from day to day, to the last syllable of recorded time". --Gwib -(talk)- 20:14, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I know exactly what you mean :) Razorflame 20:16, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm off to get some rest, waking up early tomorrow and girlfriend is having trouble with her friends and I have to be a pillar of strength for some reason. Relationships are nothing but drama! Thanks for the cheery orange bar though, it really got my spirits up. It's nice having someone to talk to so informally over Wikipedia :) --Gwib -(talk)- 20:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Riddle me this...

Excuse me for saying so, but you are being very rude to Inkpen, Benniguy, or whatever you would like to call him. You said "My mind has always been, and continues to be, open." If this is true then why has he not been unblocked yet? --Andrew from NC (talk) 05:48, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

He asks, and I quote, "GWIB, IM DONE, WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?". I replied accordingly. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
What should I do now? Razorflame 16:18, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem, we need your tireless efforts here. I wouldn't be surprised if you came out top in our editor list at the end of each month you've been here! I'm going to eat now, will clean up articles later. The category:cleanup needed has swollen to above 40 articles and I want to get that down to > 5 within two days. Thanks for talking again, just what I needed :) --Gwib -(talk)- 16:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
The month that I had the most edits, December of last year, I came in 2nd behind Lights. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again :) Cheers, Razorflame 16:36, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps I should rephrase my question. Do you have any intention of unblocking him or are you just lying through your teeth when you say that your mind is open? --Andrew from NC (talk) 01:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
The decision to unblock him lies with the community. Consensus to unblock will most likely not be reached and thus will most likely not occur. -  EchoBravo  contribs  03:03, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

(unindenting) When Benniguy says "WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?" I respond, in short, "my mind is open". This basically means that I won't do the thinking for him and that he should start looking to himself to find faults rather than others doing it for him. It has nothing to do with unblocking or lying, so I'm not sure where you got those from... It's more trying to ween him off our influence and try to make him think for himself. Hope this message helped you! --Gwib -(talk)- 05:18, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

What exactly can he do, seeing as he's blocked? He has done more than enough to prove that he can be trusted now. According to the block log you aren't the one who blocked him, but you have been giving him a harder time than anyone else. --Andrew from NC (talk) 05:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Userpage question

Shouldn't the quote under the picture read My girlfriend and I? Razorflame 19:56, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I use this little trick, if you remove the "and my girlfriend", it should still make sense. It works for most things (my friend and I went to the shops --> I went to the shops, my parents like me and my brother --> my parents like me), so I assumed it would work for that. But you are basically grammar God here, so I'm not sure now... --Gwib -(talk)- 20:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Not sure myself now reading your response...lol. Razorflame 20:05, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Feel free to change it, I trust you. I'll clean up a couple more pages then off to bed. Friday tomorrow! I'm addicted to Vodka and Red Bull so I probably won't edit tomorrow or saturday (*wink*). My RfA

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which ended unsuccessfully with 59% support. I found this Request for adminship to be extremely helpful in learning what I need to work on now and I appreciate your vote in my RfA, as every vote that was posted helped me learn a little bit more about myself and the work I do here on the Simple English Wikipedia. Even though the RfA failed, I still thought it to be an extremely successful RfA and I hope to show you what I can do now. Cheers, Razorflame 21:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Protection of archives

Do you really think that the protection of the Simple talk archives is necessary? Aside from sporadic vandalism (which actually isn't all that much), does that really justify a full protection of all of the archives on this Wikipedia? Many of the archives actually aren't hit by vandalism, so to tell you the truth, I really don't see any need for the protection of these pages. While I think you needed the tools, I don't think that they need to be used in this fashion. Protecting pages is meant to be an anti-vandalism tool, which clearly isn't the case in this instance. Cheers, Razorflame 15:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

It was after this that I started. Better safe than sorry and that way old votes, topics, views and conversations can't be altered or added to without notifying someone. That way nothing slips past us :) --Gwib -(talk)- 15:55, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Then why not just protect that one archive instead of protecting them all? I know you are trying to be safe instead of sorry, but seeing as I have gotten into trouble about in the past (having trouble finding the post that EchoBravo (who was then Browne34) added to my talk pages about Vandalism in Progress. Cheers, Razorflame 19:33, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
(The link) Personally, I think that these are two very different situations. One is protecting an article, something which is there specifically made to be added to and edited by everyone. An archive for things like Simple Talk, the AN or even old talk pages is necessary in most cases. This isn't only to prevent users from vandalizing them, but to stop them from adding to inactive discussions without anyone noticing. Remember, protection isn't only to protect from vandalism but from change in general. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:15, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

RE: Deletion

Not that it matters, but why I blanked the page was once I had requested a page be deleted when it was a redirect page. But it took them to the redirected page and they deleted that one... Thanks for deleting the page. Blessings, AmericanEagle 22:08, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Wait, what? --Gwib -(talk)- 17:45, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay, once I had asked a page be deleted, but it was redirecting to another page at the time. The person then not noticing the the redirect, deleted the second page. And they left the one I wanted to be deleted alone. Like I said, it doesn't matter, I was just saying that's why the page was blanked. Get it? Got it? Good! Hope that helps, AmericanEagle 19:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah yeah, it was just the "why I blanked the page was once I had requested a page be deleted when it was a redirect page ... it took them to the redirected page and they deleted that one" which I had to read a few times to try and understand... --Gwib -(talk)- 19:34, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Gwib!

I'm bored, care to chat?

Somebody has given you some cookies! Now enjoy them!
? Razorflame 19:35, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Would love to! Just finished to chemistry homework (brought me to new levels of boredom and despair) so I'm high on endorphins :). Thanks for the cookie, not so sure about the traffic comment though... How's school for you? --Gwib -(talk)- 19:42, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
The usual, boredom and homework and class work and all that. Thankfully, I have no homework tonight (Yay me!), so I have all the time in the world to play some of the new Nintendo DS games that I got over the weekend.
The names of the DS games I got over the weekend are, Advance Wars:Days of Ruin, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon:Explorers of Time, and Pokemone Mystery Dungeon:Explorers of Darkness. The first game is a turn-based war strategy game. The basic premise of the game is that you have a headquarters, and so does your opponent. You also have factories, which produce units like tanks and infantry and stuff like that, as well as ports that you can produce ships in and airports that you can produce airplanes in. The object is to either destroy all of your opponents' units or capture your opponents' headquarters by using infantry or mechs or bikes to 'capture' it by moving them over the headquarters and selecting capture. You have to do this before your opponent can do the same to you. It's a pretty fun game, and it's made by Nintendo, so you don't have do worry about blood and gore because there is none. When you attack an infantry unit and destroy it, instead of there being a shower of blood, they just sort of fly off the screen like they are cardboard or paper inserts.
I haven't played either of the Mystery Dungeon games yet, but after reading a bit of my friends' strategy guide for the games, I am pretty sure that they are going to be pretty good. In fact, I just got the games from my friend (whom I paid to get them for me) today, so I haven't yet had the chance to play them. As soon as I get home, though, I will play them.
As for the cookies, I copied that from Uncyclopedia, so thats' why the traffic comment is there. I decided to leave in the traffic note to add a little bit of flavor to the Simple English Wikipedia. Cheers, Razorflame 19:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Haha! I like the irony in the word "flavour" when used talking about a delicious biscuit template. I adore strategy games like the classic stereotypical ones (Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Warhammer). The satisfaction of builing a city out of nothing and becoming self-sufficient is brilliant!
Then you get quests where you have to reach a certain size or built an efficient economy by a certain time which are so much fun to do. Honestly, there is nothing I like better than strategy games apart from football.
By the way, you think that I should upload a few pictures of Paris to link to on my userpage? I'm not sure than SEWP is meant to be used a photo archive but it would stop us from thinking of each other as users and more as people with lifestlyes and stories of their own. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
As to your first section, that must've been dramatic irony, because the audience knew something that the actor did not :). In Advance War:Days of Ruin, you don't build the city, the city that you start out with is already built for you. The only things you 'build' would be units from the buildings that were already placed on the map. I also like some of the classic strategy games, like Age of Empires (more specifically Age of Empires 2:Conqueror's Expansion), as well as many of the major RPGs (Role-playing games, in case you didn't know), like Pokemon and Diablo 2:Lord of Destruction, and others like that.
I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to upload some images from Paris, but I wouldn't do it here. If I remember correctly, over at Commons, they allow you to upload a small amount of personal images, so I am pretty sure that it would be alright with them. Cheers, Razorflame 20:07, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Don't play Advance War:Days of Ruin. Sounds quite good though. I did know what an RPG was, I do play quite a lot of them but it's hard to find good ones for Mac since I don't have the program which lets PC programs run on a Mac :(. That's why I play the MMORPG's like Runescape or WoW (or used to) since all you need is Firefox or Safari.
I am well aware of the policy on image uploads here though -.-, indeed I've chastised several other users about uploading images here. I'd only ever upload images onto Commons. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:14, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Paree

I know you've been back awhile, but I forgot to ask--how was Paris? Did you have a good time? I'm so jealous of Europeans because you can travel to other European countries for relatively cheap. It would cost me an arm and a leg to go to Paris... <pout>It's just not fair!</pout> · Tygrrr... 14:52, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for asking! It took us 6 bloody hours on the bus to get there, which was a bit of a pain.
Since I was going for a school trip and not with family, we visited a bunch of historical monuments like the Louvre, L'Opéra Garnier, L'Arc de Triomphe and some aristocrat's house. Took LOADS of photos (I'll send you a link once I've uploaded some to Commons) and did a couple of french exercises.
By the way, Paris is basically made of dog poo since people aren't obligated to pick it up like here in clean, fresh Switzerland so flip-flops are unadvised and you have to keep one eye on the ground and the other to watch out for bad tempered french gits. But all in all, we had a damn good time and Paris is one of the only countries in Europe where the legal drinking age is only a suggestion (wink) :). --Gwib -(talk)- 16:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Can you do me a favor and block this user? He's been attacking me a bit. Cheers, Razorflame 16:24, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

All done! Don't worry, he's only attacking you because you're so damn efficient. All his hard work vandalizing our articles keeps on being undone somehow... --Gwib -(talk)- 16:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Although I know you were trying to make a point come across in your last post, I just wanted to let you know that AmericanEagle was right in removing the D word from your last post to this topic. You shouldn't swear on here, especially if this project is trying to target kids. Thanks for the block. Cheers, Razorflame 19:32, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Damn. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:47, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

The NeT article

It's about people, groups, companies or websites that are not notable. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not say why it is important.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Network_of_European_Technocrats Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Network of European Technocrats - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an article on a European offshot of the Technocracy movement. It is entirely self-sourced, and appears to be the work exclusively of single purpose accounts associated with the movement. Google finds 57 unique hits - In other words.. there is no real connection to net and what they claim as their antecedents which comes from the word Technocracy as a google.

On top of all that... just discovered that this article is written by the NET Director. How did he get to be the Director? 3 other people apparently voted him in as chief admin. on their commercial forum/blog.75.73.3.230 (talk) 04:14, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
