@つがる: I was kind of browsing around WMF sites and needed someone to talk to. Since your talk page is semi-protected, Can you please leave a message on my talk page so we can talk? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 00:50, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes, what would you like help with? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:51, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: I wanted to ask you a question about your username. If you feel comfortable sharing, why did you request to rename your account? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 00:54, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I cannot tell you. Such information is restricted to the WMF and Stewards, etc. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:55, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: Ok. Regarding my questions, I have a question about the Wikimedia Foundation website, that's the old one, wmf:. Was that site closed? Or is it read-only for other reasons? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 01:02, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
The one that runs on the MediaWiki Software, the WMF, wiki, is restricted, so only WMF staff can only edit it. The other one, just seems like their website, and not a MediaWiki program. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:11, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

┌────────────────┘
@つがる: So the wmf: site is not closed, just restricted for editing. But the other one foundationsite: is just a static HTML site unrelated to the MediaWiki program. --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 01:14, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yep. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:15, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: In case you didn't know, did you know that new Simple English projects will not be created (see here) because they thought that they should be edited under English subdomains. That's why Simple English Wikibooks and Simple English Wikiquote were closed. Luckily, this wouldn't impact any existing Simple English projects, Simple English Wikipedia and Simple English Wiktionary. --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 01:18, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Good to know! --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:22, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: A bit like how they wouldn't create a British English Wikipedia, because it is very similar to regular English and should be edited under the English subdomain. However, there is a proposal for a Simple French Wikipedia (see here.) --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 01:24, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Eh, well British English, is going to get further and further away from American English, in a few hundred years I think... [source?] --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:26, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

┌───────────────────┘
@つがる: Also, why are "$" variables often used in system messages? (see here for an example) --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 01:31, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. The "$" variable gets replaced with the user(s) name when needed in the real template. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:44, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: Today is Thanksgiving in the United States, where I live. I think Thanksgiving was in October in Canada? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 01:46, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yep! --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:46, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: Regarding WMF projects, I am not sure if you knew about interwiki links, but they are pretty useful and can link to the desired project. For example, wikt:fr: links to "French Wiktionary," and ru: would link to "Russian Wikipedia." When a non-existing project is entered (e.g. kk:n: for Kazakh Wikinews on the Kazakh Wikipedia), it will take you to Wikimedia Incubator with the message "$1 Project" followed by "A Project in this language does not yet exist" if the desired project has not been started on Incubator. Typing n: for Simple English Wikinews would give an "unprefixed" error, as "simple" is not an official code. "en-simple" is the correct one, but creating pages (such as Wn/en-simple) is disallowed on Incubator.
Yes, I know about those :) --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:55, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

┌────────────────┘
@つがる: Also, you can look at Special:SiteMatrix, which shows existing projects in different languages. Blue language code means existing project, Crossed out blue language code means previously existed, but was closed, and red language code means has not existed yet. --AJ1m3,zsd. Cool page! --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:04, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: How is it going today? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 02:35, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Fine, thanks --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:38, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: After I read your editnotice, I know we have a bit in common. I have autism as well, may I please ask you some questions? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 22:49, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yep! --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:49, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

┌────────────────┘
@つがる: What does autism feel like for you? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 22:50, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I don't think this is a good idea for us to be discussing this on an Wikipedia page. (As this page is publicly visible, and we're going to be heading down to the path of an 'web host/social networking' which Wikipedia is not.) --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:54, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: Ok, good idea. I noticed that your editnotice and some parts of it have red links, pages that were in the User:Thegooduser/ namespace, but those links don't work anymore after your renaming. May I fix those links for you? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 22:56, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by fixing it? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:57, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: On User talk:つがる/Editnotice, where it says "See an example here," the word "here" is in red and does not link to your current message example. The "here" links to User:Thegooduser/MessageExample, but since you renamed, that page was deleted, so it should link to User:つがる/MessageExample. --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 22:59, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it should. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 23:02, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

EN-5 change

@つがる: No, I meant 'EN-5.' My native language is Chinese, so I had 'ZH.' I speak a little bit of German for 'DE-2' and a little bit of Spanish for 'ES-1'. --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 03:32, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Isn't EN-5 and EN-N basically the same? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:37, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also, you're going to have to disable the categories in your sandbox, if you're going to put articles in it --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:38, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: To answer your first question, EN-N means this is your native language. EN-5 is the highest level for a non-native language. For the second question, how to disable the categories? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 03:39, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
[[Category:Example]] --> [[:Category:Example]] --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:41, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: I don't think I can disable the categories, because you can see here, it is a transclusion, not directly copied and pasted. But I can understand why you want me to remove the categories, because my sandbox would be added to the category, which would be incorrect. --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 03:47, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

┌────────────────┘
Yes, that's what I'm trying to state. It would cause problems when your sandbox is added to the categories. Why are you transcluding pages anyways? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@つがる: Because transcluding pages was something I learned about more recently, and it was something that seemed really intresting.
Okay, but try to find a way to disable the categories in your sandbox when you do so :) --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:51, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: Ok, but I don't know how to do it. It would not be possible to manually remove my sandbox from the category, because the pages on the category are autogenerated. Is it HTML? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 03:54, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Not sure. But you should ask at Simple Talk to try and find a way. I won't be online for a few days. So any replies to this message, I won't see until then. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:55, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: Ok, and thank you for letting me know. Have a nice break! By the way, can we chat on IRC? --AJ1m3,zsd. (talk) 03:57, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
