Welcome to patrolling

Congratulations on getting the patroller right. I'd like to ask you to be sure to check categories on articles. I've been seeing articles that have some categories, but no content categories. That can happen when an article has a template that adds a maintenance category (such as a stub template or a template that says the article needs simplifying). When you patrol, if you could make sure the article has appropriate content categories, that would be much appreciated! --Auntof6 (talk) 01:16, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Auntof6, thanks for letting me know! Will remember this from now on! I will pin this to the top of my talk page so I do not forget. Thank you --(Redacted)

Hello, can I know when will you be available to hop onto IRC for discussion of WAM judging. Hope you are well also. :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:08, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Camouflaged Mirage I'll ping you there right now --(Redacted)
Can you just paste what you discussed here on my talkpage? (Redacted)
Sorry if the above is quite unclear, I am asking the time-slots you are available on IRC, then we can settle on a time / date and we can all discuss WAM on IRC. No rush I am looking at somewhere this weekend. Thanks much. :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:56, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
Camouflaged Mirage I'm usually able to go on IRC this Saturday or Thursday at around 6 P.M. PST (Redacted)
Noted, but this may be hard for me, one way is that for us to judge the articles separately and then for those that one of us agree, another of us disagree we openly discuss here (or if you want some privacy we do it via email). A guide in judging is to go to the fountain page linked in WP:WAM, log in, and you will see Judge. Click on it and then the articles will appear. Basic word count and bytes will be shown on the top right (need to ensure the article is 3000 bytes + 300 words both met). And then subsequently, at the bottom, there is an accept, reject button, for okay article (see the main page of WAM for the rules), click accept and done, for not ok article, give a reason why it's not ok, and then reject. Do it when you have time, no rush. For unsure ones, we can discuss here or via email then. Sorry for unable to find a common time on IRC, as 6PM PST is quite early for me here to go online. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:47, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Camouflaged Mirage It's better to do the judging in public, so users can see that we're being honest and not biased, etc. I can create a user talk subpage for all WAM related matters too --(Redacted)

Sure :). I will say let not create a subpage, just use the talkpage of the article is sufficient I guess, the author can also communicate via the talkpage? But I won't oppose a subpage. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:27, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Camouflaged Mirage Sounds Good! So does judging start next month? --(Redacted)
Actually now we can start judging already, as there are 8 articles being submitted. If we judge early, the author can rectify any errors and then they can be accepted later. I had judged 2 already, feel free to start judging now. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:20, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Camouflaged Mirage I don't see the fountain tool link at WP:WAM, is it on meta? (I'm rarely active this time of day on Wikipedia that's why I'm responding so fast lol) (Redacted)
I see, here. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:24, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

Login will be the same username and password? Or is it O-Auth? --(Redacted)

Login + O-Auth. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:28, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
However, there is no rush to judge either, we have plenty of time, and the author have plenty too even if we start like 2 weeks later judging. Just not to stress up anyone :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:32, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Camouflaged Mirage I'll start the judging in about 2 weeks from then --(Redacted)
Hello, just a note, if you see anything wrong with the articles, don't ammend yourself, but rather tell the author whatsoever is wrong and they need to make the correction. I know this is very anti-wiki way of working, but the system we have apparently only recognize the author contribution for length (3000 bytes + 300 words - both need to be met), so if we touch it or expand it it cannot be counted. ANd all the best for your RFA, and thanks for your in depth replies. I don't want to make the RFA even longer so it's here. Regards, Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 14:14, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
Camouflaged Mirage Got it! Then I think we should try to let Gay Yong Hernandez not to make the changes to new articles, but the problem is he doesn't respond to messages... --(Redacted)
Fountain is up and running again. Just for information the link is on WP:WAM and see the big blue submit changes. Thanks. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:37, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
It's down again :( Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:04, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Stub note

Please note this (in particular, see the edit summary), and let me know if you have questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:12, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Auntof6 I didn't know the stub categories were the same, I'm sorry for being stupid and doing that --(Redacted)

Unfortunately, your RfA wasn't successful...

Hello (Redacted),

I just closed your (Redacted). Unfortunately, there was not enough support in the community to reach the required 75% support (as per the Criteria for Adminship). I therefore had no choice but to close this request as unsuccessful. Please don't take it personally; focus on creating or improving content, and perhaps try again, sometime later? --Eptalon (talk) 16:53, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Eptalon Face-smile.svg Thanks for the note. --(Redacted)

WAM again

Hey, I had settled all the renaming of the pages here and on meta, for my article since the name in the fountain I had to manually remove and readd, the system needs you to accept my article again. Regards,Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:29, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

 Done --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:40, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the polishing up for my articles. For judging, apart from my pages there is only Saroj left. I recalled BRPeverconcerns of redlinks, so I will wait till they respond before accepting but I will still say what I said on the Airport talkpage, that Asian articles are rare here and redlinks are inevitable, we can ask people to create pages for those but it really doesn't seem good to just have oneliner stubs. I will wait for consensus to accept / decline those, my thought process, so maybe you will have more views, feel free to share. For this, Tandoori chicken, not sure is the language simple enough as origin section seems complex, but then also there are also 2 barelinks. 19/20. All these we can fix if we deem the entire article is OK, so I will need more inputs. Just in case I am not here, these shouldn't be reason to fail the article should you think is Ok. Thanks so much and appreciate the work you done. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 14:00, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Hey ya, just a note we need to settle all the judging by the end of this month, so I think it's time to discuss the articles, I am happy to do it at whatsoever pages you think is best. Also @BRPever: for it. There are languages which settled all the judging already. We are sort of running out of time. I think the main issues is that I am not familiar with Indian actress, their notablity and etc as well as the language, so I need BRPever inputs on Saroj, for the chicken page, my concerns are as above. But I am also in an unique situation which I shouldn't have in the first place by writing articles. I cannot reject any pages by Saroj as that can make me seems that I am having a COI (as I am also participating) and he had 7 submitted, me 6. I hate this situation but I am also in a blind not to accept all in a blanket manner and BRP had raised the redlinks issues so I cannot accept against this background. So what I hope is all 3 of us get into consensus of whether to accept / reject Saroj articles (but then I think I will rescue as I have a COI involved - pardon me from getting into the writing which causes this COI). Sorry for this long wall of text, but I can't make it any shorter. Best Regards :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:23, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
I will get to judging when I'm free (very busy right now), and you raise a good point about the 'COI' can a 3rd party WAM judge from another project come and help us judge? Also good question about the redlinks, I'm not sure what to do in that situation either. --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:43, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Take care IRL. We cannot add judges now already, the only thing we can do is to ensure fairness, so me having contested (I regret) shouldn't judge any further but I will be always available to give opinions and thoughts on the articles. The COI in this case only applies to me, so one good point, for simple with so small pool of editors, the organizers shouldn't be writing articles. This I will take note next year (hopefully I will still be around there). But anyway, the dateline is 31 Dec, we still have time, but if we exceed, it will be nullfied. Worse up to worse, I will ignore the COI and go to judge all the articles, my aim is just to let there to be at least 1 user who meet the criterion (no need to be me) to win the postcard. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:12, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
When you judge, pretend you don't know the user, forget all that you know about them. Just look at the article and not who wrote it, but the content in the article. Would this help? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:15, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Of course I don't judge based on the user, but then there is the so called perceived COI, not true COI but if I fail one of his, it might not be that good, this is what I worry about. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:14, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Just a friendly reminder, we had 20 more days to judge, cc @BRPever:. Some other projects with 100 plus articles had done already, in fact most, so we really had to get down to real judging, we only have 9. Based on last year experience, late judging submissions isn't that welcomed and we gotten close to a rejections, I had to beg the international organizers for simple to be included when the original judge went missing since day 1 of the competition, after much pursuasion, they then allow, I hope such don't repeat and having the COI above, I really need both of your help to finish the judging in a fair manner, both in act and perceived. CM-Public (talk) 02:42, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Okay, I will spend the weekend Judging --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:45, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Okay, I'm just gonna accept red links is that fine? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:46, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

I can't really say much as I know mine also have redlinks but if I may being a little biased I will say let's just ignore for this round, I know BRP is also concerned about that but I mean we lack Asian pages, if not then we unlink for the time being? Although we don't typically. Well I think for the sake of WAM I am keen to ignore, it's not GA just a patrolled article, seeing other versions their articles aren't totally tag free either, I can tag some zh or bn ones too, but they accepted, so I suggest we follow? CM-Public (talk) 02:51, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok, We'll Ignore the red links. I will start judging on the Weekend. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:01, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Agreed, let's ignore the redlinks for now. Just ping me here if there are hard ones to solve. Thanks much. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:19, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Just checking in any issues with judging, we left 3 days to finish. I will need the scores to be up by 31 Dec preferably by 0000 UTC latest by 1200 UTC. The reason is that after all the scores are tallied, I will then do the finishing touches by sending pass/fail message via the fountain tool to participants (the message can be seen via last year page, I intend to reuse - any objections? Wikipedia_talk:Wikipedia_Asian_Month/2019#Sample congrats message <-- here (asking for objections as last year the language was questioned and we fixed)), update the meta pages (we have 3-4 pages on meta to update the scores). We need to finish by 31 Dec all. Just a ping to @BRPever: to take note too. Thanks much.
P.S. Sorry I might not be that active these few days, but I'll try to respond to as many queries as possible here (due to some personal issues), apologies. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:25, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Reminder: My articles need to be judged by one other organizer, so is either you or @BRPever:. Manda, Jammu is the one that I cannot judge whatsoever and if there is 1 article pending, we cannot process the entire WAM. I.e. the system won't close, we cannot award the others. The WAM international team wants us to collect winners info by 1/11 Jan (1st round / final round), so we have to get to it ASAP. If you aren't able to do so, please tell me ASAP so that I can ask for another active user help (i.e. add them to the judges list and help assess). This is of critical importance already (which I stressed before in the original post asking for judges). Thanks so much and have a nice day. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:59, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Category:User yue

I noticed that you manually added this category to your user page. I looked at Template:User yue-3 and saw that it wasn't adding the category automatically like other user language templates, so I changed it. You should be able to remove the hardcoded category from your user page now if you want to. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:45, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Auntof6 Thank you. Also, for the babel templates, I don't want it to look like I'm 'hat collecting' or anything, I'm not. I just like languages and I happen to speak those languages. Will putting too many babel templates cause a problem? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:37, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
The only problem I think it might cause is that you might get people asking for help with a lot of language-related stuff! This wouldn't be considered hat collecting; that refers to getting privileges and rights, not to letting people know what your skills are. I don't know if there is a limit on how many languages the software lets you specify. And I like languages, too. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 02:29, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello. On WP:WikiProjects, there was a redlink saying "User:Thegooduser/WikiProject_Japan" for where WikiProject Japan was supposed to be. FYI I have corrected this now to "User:つがる/WikiProject_Japan". Many thanks, Belwine💬📜 21:53, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Hello, Onehits! Firstly I'd like to extend you a warm welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! As you may know, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, this means that all our articles written here, must meet the General Notability Guidelines, or in this case, it should meet the Guidelines at WP SINGER. I know this is either dissapointing, or frustrating for you, but at the end of the day this is Wikipedia, and articles must be about subjects that are notable. I also want to let you know that you should not tell others not to edit or touch any articles on Wikipedia, because nobody owns them, and also to not remove the RFD tags, as that is Vandalism. Please also do not put the "Semi-Protection" Icon on the page, you aren't an Administrator so it does nothing. I invite you to stay with us and get a hang of how things work here, and one day, you'll be able to create an article and not get it deleted. On behalf of the SEWP (Simple English Wikipedia Community) and I, I wish you the very best in your time here. Happy Editing, and if you have anymore questions, please ask me! --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:20, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Just wondering...

Is it allowed to go to English Wikipedia, find an article that is not on Simple Wikipedia, copy and paste the Wikipedia one into a new Simple article? Helpthepeople9 (talk) 02:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Yes, you can do that. However, you need to make sure that the content has been 'translated' into Simple-English, and you need to follow the guidelines here. More information is available here. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:42, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
