Why your userpage was deleted

change

Your userpage is meant to be about you as a Wikipedia editor, not a place to advertise yourself or your business. Please see WP:USERPAGE. Thank you, Vermont (talk) 14:00, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Vermont, I came here after seeing the User's edit in the newpage feed, but it took me awhile to write this up. In the meantime your post showed up...
I cannot see what was in the Userpage that was deleted, but checking the deletion log gives me tidbits of it:I'm a developer, designer and tech enthusiast. Fluent in Ruby JavaScript English Bulgarian language Bulgarian.. So to me it souds like the user merely posted his resume on his user page, which many people from outside wikipedia would not consider advertising. According to Wikipedia:Why create an account?: Things users with accounts can do:... They can have a personal user page to write about their themselves,.
This is really none of my business, just thought I would offer an insight from someone who is not an Admin. That's all I have to say on this matter. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 14:32, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
On one hand, as @Vermont says, see WP:USERPAGE. It's one thing to list some of your interests and skills, particularly as they may be relevant to your work here; it's another entirely to put a resume. And FWIW, you can put a simple link to a place elsewhere where your resume can be found, too. That said:
  • Tequilium, your nasty attitude doesn't particularly make others want to support your request here.
  • @Vermont, I think you know that I'm a pretty active sysop elsewhere. Typically when I find something like this—and it happens a lot on Incubator—before I QD it, I post to the user's talk page and ask the user to modify it first. I don't just jump in on it. Advertisement for a business is a different issue, but if it's basically a resume, especially if the user is new around here, I usually try to have a talk first. • He posted links to a company and it was clearly made to promote said company. They can post about themselves if they want, however if it is clearly being used to promote a company or themselves it gets deleted. And yes, the language being used is not likely to make someone want to help them and could even lead to a block. User pages are a pretty normal way for spammers to spam so if they are advertising they are generally deleted immediately. Users can always recreate them without the spam if they are not truly spamming. -DJSasso (talk) 17:16, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • It was an advertisement for a business. I'll also note I wasn't the administrator who deleted the userpage, however I agree with it's deletion. Vermont (talk) 17:42, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Fine. Didn't see the original. Reacted to a comment about a resume above. If someone is promoting themselves in a resume kind of way, I tend to give a brief chance to fix. If they're promoting their company, I QD. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:14, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
