Why?
October 2010
changeHello! I noticed that you may have come here from another Wikipedia, so you know a little about how things work here. I hope you like it here and decide to stay! Here are some links to help you adjust:
- Writing in Simple English
- Where to ask questions and discuss things
- How to copy from another Wikipedia
- Some of our active users
There's a lot to do here. Most of it is writing articles that do not exist yet, which you can do by translating from other Wikipedias, but have a look around and see what you want to do. Thanks for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need any help. Kansan (talk) 18:21, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Doral, Florida
changeHi, the best way to de-orphan it would be to find other articles to add links to. I don't know much about this particular city, but if there are any notable people who lived there, you could add a link to their articles (or create them), or maybe if you wanted to add a short list of some of the suburbs to the page on Miami, Florida.
By the way, out of curiosity, is your user name a reference to the musician? Kansan (talk) 19:44, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I might add a mention to Miami, Florida. As it was founded in 2003, there aren't any particularly important people who were born there. My username is entirely unrelated to the musician. Why? (talk) 20:00, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Your clasification of articles
changeHello and welcome to SEWP. YOu are currently classifying articles to a schema you know from EnWP. Even if I do not particularly like that schema, we would at least need a link to where it is explained. For our small community, it might make more sense to use fewer categories, as well (but that should be discussed with other editors). IIRC, the "C" class articles are good candidates for improvement to GA or VGA. These are of course just thoughts.--Eptalon (talk) 22:26, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Some good categories would be:
- Stub: very short article, less than 500 bytes prose size. Poisson's ratio
- B-class: short article, from 500-1000 bytes prose size. Copper(II) carbonate
- A-class: moderately long article, more than 1000 bytes prose size. Silver nitrate
- GA: WP:GA already defined
- VGA: WP:VGA already defined
Thanks, --Chemicalinterest (talk) 14:03, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll let the others add some quality guidelines. You can add it yourself to my comment if you like. I try to create my small articles as very compact and still getting the basic meaning of the concept, like the article on Poisson's ratio. They still have enough meaning to merit their inclusion in the encyclopedia. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 14:09, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
In case you would like to experiment, experiment on the articles I created. I don't care what you do to them as long as it isn't vandalism. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 14:13, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
