History
changeIt was founded in 1736 as the fortress of Buzulukskaya (Бузулу́кская) by a Polish Nobleman. It was founded on the Samara River near the mouth of the Buzuluk River along Russia's southern frontier.[2] It was later moved to its current place near the source of the Domashka River. It was granted town status in 1781.
In 1877, a railway line connecting Samara with Orenburg helped the town develop. Buzuluk was a main stop along the line. Around this time was when the town's first power station was built, as well as its first schools and libraries. It became an important rail stop for the transportation of wheat. The population almost doubled between the end of the nineteenth century and 1926.
Buzuluk was the base of the First Czechoslovak Independent Field Battalion. This battalion was a Czechoslovak army unit that fought with the Red Army during World War II when Czechoslovakia was occupied by the Germans.
The town's economy is now based on the extraction and refining of oil.
