Hashem Safieddine
Lebanese politician and cleric, leading member of Hezbollah (1964-2024)
Hashem Safieddine (born Hashim Safi Aldiyn; 1964 – 3 October 2024) was a Lebanese Shia cleric who was the head of Hezbollah's Executive Council from 2001 until his assassination in 2024. He is a cousin of Hassan Nasrallah. He was seen as the "number two" in Hezbollah before Nasrallah's assassination on 27 September 2024.[1][2]

On 3 October 2024, Safieddine was targeted by an Israeli airstrike in Beirut.[3] On 5 October, it was reported that Hezbollah had lost contact with Safieddine since the airstrike.[4][5] On 8 October, the Israeli government said that Safieddine was likely "eliminated".[6][7]
On 22 October 2024, the IDF confirmed his death, stating that his body had been found.[8][9]
