The Italian Civil War, was a civil war in the Kingdom of Italy from 1943 - 1945 during the Italian campaign (World War II). Before the civil war, Italy was on the side of the Axis powers. After an Allied invasion in September 1943, Italy joined the Allies. The German army occupied the north of the country and set up fascist government called the Italian social republic. Fighting continued until the royal Italian victory in May 1945.
