Survivor Series (2015) Survivor Series (2016)

Survivor Series (2016) is a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network event that will be made by WWE. The event will be held on November 20, 2016. It will take place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Survivor Series (1997) was the last Survivor Series event that took place in Canada and was where the Montreal Screwjob took place. This will be the thirtieth time WWE has done a Survivor Series event.

Six matches are set for the event. In the most important Bill Goldberg will wrestle (against Brock Lesnar), something he hasn't done in WWE for 12 years.

This will be the first Survivor Series to last four hours. Only some WrestleMania and SummerSlam events have been that long.

While SmackDown was taking place on October 11, the bosses of the wrestlers of the show, Shane McMahon (commissioner) and Daniel Bryan (general manager) challenged the wrestlers of Raw to three Survivor Series elimination matches. 5-on-5 elimination matches have taken place at every Survivor Series. One of these matches would be 5 men's wrestlers from Raw versus 5 from SmackDown, another would be 5 women's wrestlers from Raw versus 5 from SmackDown and the other would be 5 tag teams from Raw versus 5 from SmackDown. On October 17, Raw's commissioner, Stephanie McMahon said she would let these matches happen.

The next weeks were spent choosing who was going to compete in these matches. For Team SmackDown, Heath Slater and Rhyno were made captains of the 10-on-10 match because they are the SmackDown Tag Team Champions. But, they faced the the Spirit Squad on October 25. If they lost, they would lose their championship and their spot in the Survivor Series match. The same night, The Hype Bros made the team when they beat the Ascension. On November 1, American Alpha made the team when they beat the Spirit Squad and so did the Usos when they beat the Headbangers. On November 8, Breezango were the last to make the team when they beat the Vaudevillains. For Team Raw, two members of the Raw Tag Team Championship team, the New Day, were made captains on October 31. The following week, Sheamus and Cesaro, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Enzo Amore and Big Cass and The Golden Truth (Goldust and R-Truth) took the other four spots. The New Day called out the other teams which made Gallows and Anderson, rivals of the other teams, come out. Gallows and Anderson then defeated the New Day, but not for the Raw Tag Team Championship. But R-Truth sold his team's spot to the New Day for property and couldn't get their spot back when the Golden Truth lost to the Shining Stars.

The spots for the Women's match have also been filled. For Team SmackDown, Natalya strongly believed that she should be captain. But she couldn't be Nikki Bella in the ring and so, Bella was named captain. On November 2, Carmella, Naomi, SmackDown Women's Champion, Becky Lynch and the next person she was set to face for the title, Alexa Bliss took the remaining four spots. Also, Natalya was made the team's coach. On November 8, the team started to break down when Carmella confronted Nikki during a match between Natalya and Naomi. Natalya tried to separate the two, allowing Naomi to win the match. Then, Becky won her championship match against Alexa, but not cleanly. For team Raw, Raw Women's champion, Charlotte Flair was named team captain on October 31 while Bayley and Nia Jax also made the team the same day. On November 7, Charlotte announced her apprentice, Dana Brooke as the last team member only for Michael Cole to say that was wrong. Alica Fox and Sasha Banks were named the last members. Sasha, Bayley and Alicia then beat Charlotte, Nia and Dana in a six-women tag team match when Bayley pinned Charlotte.

The teams for the Men's match started to be announced on October 31. That day, Chris Jericho and WWE Universal champion, Kevin Owens were named co-captains, something they had aimed at for weeks. Also, Raw's general manager Mick Foley added United States champion, Roman Reigns. Braun Strowman made the team by winning a 12-man battle royal. On November 7, Seth Rollins was named the final member. Because most of the team disliked one another, Stephanie McMahon tried to end that with all of them competing in a fatal-five way match which ended with Owens pinning Jericho. For Team SmackDown, Daniel Bryan named every team member on November 1: captain and WWE World champion A.J. Styles, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt and Baron Corbin. A week later, Shane McMahon made James Ellsworth the team's mascot. Most of of this team also disliked one another, so a six-man tag team match between The New Wyatt Family (Bray, Orton and Luke Harper) and the team of Ambrose, Ellsworth and Corbin was set up. But Corbin said he would wrestle in this match, so Kane replaced him and Corbin fought Kalisto. The Wyatts won the six-man match while Corbin got badly hurt when wrestling Kalisto and couldn't wrestle at Survivor Series. So Daniel Bryan said Shane McMahon will be Corbin's replacement.

In 2004, Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX. This was both men's last match in WWE until Lesnar returned in 2012. In January 2016, Goldberg started to become connected with WWE when he started working with 2K Sports who make WWE's video games. On May 30, it was revealed that whoever bought WWE 2K17 early could play as Goldberg, while a picture of Lesnar became the cover of the game. During the weekend of 2016 SummerSlam, while a WWE 2K convention was going on in Germany, Goldberg joked about challenging Lesnar to a match. The two continued to do this on social media and at other 2K conventions. On October 3, Goldberg was on ESPN's SportsCenter and got people excited about the new game. On the show, he said he would want to fight Lesnar because Lesnar deserved another match. On October 10, Paul Heyman said he and Lesnar were challenging Goldberg saying Goldberg was the best wrestler Lesnar never beat. On October 17, Goldberg returned and agreed to the match. The next week, it was set for Survivor Series. On October 31, Goldberg came out to the ring, but as he was talking, Heyman interrupted him and made it seem like Lesnar was ready to fight. But instead, Rusev came out to fight Goldberg. Goldberg gave Rusev a jackhammer and gave Heyman a spear. On November 7, it was announced they will come face-to-face once more the week before Survivor Series.

At No Mercy, Dolph Ziggler won the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz. If he lost, he would have been forced to retire. Ziggler asked Miz if he wanted another match for the title, but he didn't. On November 1, Ziggler defeated Curt Hawkins for the title. Afterwards, Ziggler asked if any Raw wrestler wanted a match for the title at Survivor Series. On November 7, Mick Foley said he wanted Sami Zayn to face Ziggler, but Stephanie McMahon wanted Rusev. Zayn and Rusev had a match which Zayn won, so he will fight Ziggler at Survivor Series.

Since a SmackDown versus Raw match for SmackDown's Intercontinental Championship is set, Mick Foley is allowing a SmackDown wrestler to fight Brian Kendrick, Raw's Cruiserweight champion, to fight for the title. Daniel Bryan announced this on November 8 and chose Kalisto to be the challenger. If Kalisto wins, every cruiserweight division member will wrestle on SmackDown instead.
