Student listing
changeMr Spear, you may feel there's no need to list your students at WP:AN, but there's also no apparent reason not to. It is our practice with school projects to list the project at Wikipedia:Schools/Projects. A project page can also be created to give information about the project. If you will do those two things and list the students there, I think we could change the admin noticeboard to point to that, if User:There'sNoTime agrees to changing his/her post.--Auntof6 (talk) 12:35, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ms of6, I'll leave most my remarks there but, in brief, I have absolutely no problem following standard procedure and listing the "project" at its normal location. The unexplained, nonstandard, and extremely defensive listing—including the admin's repeated removal of my posts there, which linked to the editors at the location of their activity, if anyone was concerned about it—was what raised perfectly valid concerns.Mr Spear (talk) 13:31, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

- You're the admin and the policy gives you the right to make such changes for this purpose. There was a bit of questionable lead-in (Tony's multiple accounts that he didn't tell me about that made it look like a sockpuppet issue) but the only actually inappropriate thing that happened was the ludicrous amount of outing, newbie biting, and pompous self-importance we ran into among your users. You can't change all of that, and it turned out the worst offender isn't an admin. I'd recommend against any such role for them.
- I did discuss personal information and the internet in a broad sense and a Chinese kid's English name and age is not remotely "inappropriate" or "identifying" information in a city of 23,000,000 that's large enough to be its own province. There is zero danger they were placed in, except the poor welcome of a few users' pompous rudeness, which I did my best to shield them from. The name list shouldn't've been maintained anywhere except on our talk pages and the histories of the pages we edit, I agree, but there's nothing wrong with the kids mentioning their age and very much wrong with insisting that you have a discussion with them about child abuse that they are in no danger of because western media enjoys horror stories and has traumatized us all. It's a serious concern, the list shouldn't've been posted, but the kids are fine and you shouldn't drive them off or allow your current users to treat them with the contempt they enjoy using for fellow adults. - Also, it's your choice as an admin and I'll wait to see what happens, but I have some fear—especially given the treatment so far—that the girls' account names and descriptions will prompt more unwelcome comments from other editors than if it were obvious that they are minors. - Hi. Please keep your ideas to yourself or point to actual policy that supports your ideas. Chinese New Year has far too few images to cover the wide variety of places, cultures, and traditions involved but there is no sandwiched text and the galleries all support items in the running text... which are the actual policy concerns w/r/t images. Every gallery is a single line, not a laundry list of irrelevant images. Again, well within policy.
- In fact, the actual policy is that thorough illustration with images is necessary for a Good Article.
- Having said that, yeah, it seems I'm pretty well done there. Each section except Brunei has images and Brunei doesn't have any Chinese related images at Commons. There's only a few places that can really be improved until the article is expanded again or split into subarticles, but that's a concern to talk about on the article's talk page.
- Rather than micromanaging other people's improvements of the articles, though, go write some yourself. You can use as few images as you like! (Until other edits come along to improve them, of course, but that's how wikis work.) — Mr Spear (talk) 00:44, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
- Actually I was rather worried at the point you were adding the tenth image in a row that it was going to become a photo gallery! I thought I better comment in case you were unaware.
- As long as you have a vision of a good article, that is not a problem. If you are interested in making this a GA, you may also want to take a look at en-wiki where the equivalent article is only C-Class (and has less images). Of course the policy regarding images I normally refer too is MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE, here is seems to be MOS:IMAGES, and WP:IMAGE neither of which are as well defined as what I am used too. But in general an image is fine if there is a corresponding section of text which relies on the image for a proper understanding. I would happily pass this article as GA with 6-7 images so do note that the text is the most important factor. A Den Jentyl Ettien Avel Dysklyver (talk) 12:33, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
