Hello, Brother. There's something I didn't understand it well. In en:wiki, they wrote: In 2007 Forbes magazine ranked her as the 38th most powerful woman in the world. In simple:wiki, they wrote: As of 2006, she is ranked by Forbes magazine as the 20th most powerful woman in the world. So please can explain it? It's just make an analysis only, check it out. Are you there?--RecorDprodUceR (talk) 13:30, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I am here, but I was unable to access this site over the weekend. The English Wikipedia has more up-to-date information than we do, and Forbes ranks women differently every year. While she may have been the 20th most powerful woman in the world in 2006, they may have rated her differently in 2007. Hope this clears it up. Razorflame 15:56, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

En:wiki, their some times up dated-some time not. There's certain article I found it in en:wiki and simple wiki, but en:wiki was not up dated, and simple were alreday be up dated!! What do you think? The article was Auckland Grammar School, see also in en:wiki:Auckland Grammar School. I translate this article to my local Wikipedia (sw:wiki) and I found it two pla ces, so who is correct? What you wrote is fantastic! The article itself is very good, but there is a problem with it. Some of the English that you use in the article is complex and hard to understand. An example of this would be logical expression. I doubt that a person who doesn't understand english or understands only a little bit of English will understand this. Fra Angelico

Razorflame, your tag about the language used in that article is nonsense. When you say that it is almost a paste it indicates that you obviously haven't read either of them. I am the author of the wikipedia article, and I editted the Simple wiki article so that your average 12 yr old can read in. In otherwords, I broke it into shorter sentences, rearranged those sentences that had a complex form to direct speech, and explained words like "beatification" by putting them into a context like "he is on his way to becoming a saint". Every single sentence of the article has been reconsidered and reworked. The SimpleWiki article is also a great deal shorter than the original.

I'm removing the tag, because I consider it inappropriate. Amandajm (talk) 04:53, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is still complex in my mind. I will be happy to remove my reason for the tag being there in the first place, but that article definitely needs the complex tag. I read the whole article, and there were still some complex words in it. If you still think that I am wrong, I would like to recommend looking over the article again, making sure that it is indeed not complex, and simplifying parts that are still complex. Again, that article is definitely still complex, so there should be no reason why you should be removing the tag. Razorflame 04:57, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

For comparison

  • Fra Angelico (c. 1395 – February 18, 1455), born Guido di Pietro, was an Early Italian Renaissance painter, referred to in Vasari's Lives of the Artists as having "a rare and perfect talent".[1]
Rewritten as:
Fra Angelico (c. 1395 – February 18 1455), was an Early Italian Renaissance painter. Giorgio Vasari, who wrote the Lives of the Artists said he had "a rare and perfect talent".[1]

NOTE:

  1. Guido di Pietro omitted and explained below in a simple sentence
  2. Vasari's whole name given and identity explained
  3. "Referred" changed to "said"
  • Known in Italy as il Beato Angelico, he was known to his contemporaries as Fra Giovanni da Fiesole (Brother John from Fiesole). In Giorgio Vasari’s Lives of the Artists, written prior to 1555, he is already known as Fra Giovanni Angelico (Brother Giovanni the Angelic One).[2]
Rewritten as:
Fra Angelico has been known by many different names. When he was born, he was called Guido di Pietro. People who knew him when he was older called him Fra Giovanni da Fiesole (Brother John from Fiesole). When Giorgio Vasari wrote about him in Lives of the Artists, in the 1500s, he was already known as Fra Giovanni Angelico (Brother Giovanni who is like an Angel). [2]

NOTE:

  1. Simple explanation "Fra Angelico has been known by many different names"
  2. "Born Guido di Pietro" changed to a full simple sentence "When he was born, he was called Guido di Pietro"
  3. Likewise the third sentence has its order reversed and is greatly simplified.

I won't bother to go on.... The entire article has been adated for SimpleWiki in the same manner. Amandajm (talk) 05:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Simple English

Razorflame, there is a common misconception at this site about what constitutes "Simple English". This misconception results in some appallingly stupid and convoluted sentence constructions from people who are trying to reduce everything to words of one syllable.

Part of the art of writing Simple English is to construct clear, grammatically correct sentences. For maximum simplicity, the sentences should have the subject and verb in that order. And the time frame at the beginning rather than the end. eg:

At his birth, he was known as Guido di Pietro.
At his birth,(phrase telling when) he (subject-the important bit) was known (verb-following immediately the subject it's about) as Guido di Pietro (phrase- telling what was known). (fullstop- just one idea in this sentence).
This is a much simpler form than "Known at his birth as Guido di Pietro, he ...." Which goes: verb, time frame, phrase, subject... and follows on with the next idea.

Secondly, what type of words are actually in the Simple English vocabulary? From the "a" list:

account • acid • addition • adjustment • advertisement • agreement • amount • amusement • apparatus • approval • argument • attack • attempt • attention • attraction • authority • automatic •

And from the International list we add:

alcohol • Algebra • aluminum • ammonia • anesthetic • Arithmetic • asbestos • autobus • automobile.

Words like "apparatus", "authority" and "attempt" are not easy to simplify. In order to understand them, the reader mmust be able to look at the context. That is why each sentence needs to be very well constructed. The grammmar is more significant in many ways than the vocabulary, bbecause a person can look up a word in a dictionary, but they cannot decipher badly-written verbage.

Probelm: The creator of the Simple English list made a good attempt at providing terms that would serve in many different circumstances, including business, and daily life. But the list falls down in various areas. I keep nnoticing that very bbasic words used to describe the visual arts are completely missing from the list. "decoration" is one of the basic visual words that is missing, even though the word "decorate" is familiar to any child who has ever had a cake or a Christmas tree. If we follow the vocab exactly with no leeway for the subject with which we are dealing, then we can attack or adjust our tree, (and do various other things to it), but not "decorate" it. For this reason, a certain degree of common sense, and a good knowledge of ordinary spoken, non-jargonistic language is a very useful thing.

Please go through the article on Fra Angelico and make me a list of words or phrase that you find hard within the context. This means that you can't understand them even by reading the two sentences on either side.

If you would like to corrrecct my horrrible double letters and find the place where I frequently write "and" for "an" and "their" for "there", it would be much appreciated, because every time I look, I see another one. Amandajm (talk) 06:05, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to do whatever you feel is right. I am not a very philosophical person, so I had trouble following what you said, but if you want, feel free to remove the complex tag. Razorflame 20:16, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can use the syntax: [[Image:<insert name of the image here>]]. To add more information about the image, you can use this syntax (although it is optional): [[Image:<insert name of the image here>|thumb|left|150px|<insert a caption here>]]. This will insert the picture as a thumbnail on the left side of the article at 150 pixels with whatever caption you insert into it. VGA voting

In regards to this edit and your votes on United States and Canada: what does it mean that "you agree with some of the points in the oppose section" and yet you vote support? Do you not realize that an article has to meet all of the criteria in order to be promoted? Or maybe you don't understand the responsibility involved in this voting process? Or maybe you're too stubborn to admit you made a mistake in proposing these articles? I'm really interested in knowing what possible reasoning you could have for supporting promotion of an article that fails 22% of the criteria. · Tygrrr... 03:14, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can't vote Oppose on them because I nominated them. The nominator has to vote in support of the article, otherwise, he/she wouldn't have nominated them in the first place. Neither of those articles had the unreferenced tag on them when I nominated them, so I thought that they were good choices for GAs. Sorry if I didn't make it clear on my vote. You know, people are allowed to change their mind if they're given valid evidence for an opposing viewpoint (in this and in life in general). Another option is that you don't have to vote at all if you don't want to support or oppose it, even if you did nominate it. However, if you think the criteria aren't important and shouldn't be followed, perhaps you shouldn't be proposing articles for promotion or voting on them... · Tygrrr... 05:03, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I admit that I did make a mistake for voting support for those three pages. If I had thought of this solution before the pages got archived, I would've easily just removed my votes to those three pages. That is what I should've done instead of stonewalling you here. Sorry for my stubborness, but at times, it is a good thing. This is not one of those times. If there is anything else that you would like to bring up for me to work on, feel free to do so now. Razorflame 05:07, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just make sure you're being extremely thorough before proposing an article for promotion to GA or VGA status and just as thorough when voting. Just because an article doesn't have an unreferenced tag doesn't mean it doesn't need one. As the nominator it's your responsibility to make sure an article meets all the criteria before you put it up for voting. I want to feel confident that not just you but everyone is following proper procedures to get an article promoted. The process becomes worthless if no one follows the rules. We don't want to have the same situation down the road that we had before where we're stuck with a bunch of articles that are marked as good or very good but don't meet all the requirements needed to hold that higher status. We need to get it right this time around. I know you'll take my words to heart and be more attentive in the future. :-) (p.s. It's okay to be wrong. We all make mistakes sometimes and no one will look down on you for it. In fact, admitting a mistake and then taking the appropriate steps to fix it is quite admirable.) · Tygrrr... 05:23, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I will make sure that all articles that I nominate in the future meets all of the new requirements down pat before I nominate them in the future. Thank you for your patience with me on this issue; I now see the light of day for this issue :). Razorflame 22:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

3 months

Your userbox shows that right now, you are approx 6 days short from reaching your 3 month milestone. By then, I think that you would have about 12k edits, which is enough edits to prove your activeness and hard work to this wiki. Although some people think otherwise from a past controversey which I assume would may not want to here again. Anyways, you have been nominated 3 times by now, the first two as self-nominations (me co-noming your 2nd RfA) while a third one was done unintentionally by Terry. I just wanted to bring this notice up to you so people don't like nominate you suddenly w/o your permission and that when you'd decide to run for adminship. --§ Snake311 (click here to chat) 04:24, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your concern about this. As for now, I am just biding my time and waiting until the time is right. That time might not be in 6 days; in fact, it most likely won't be in 6 days. Terry has already been told that he should ask before nominating someone for administrator in the future, and I believe that she has taken that message to heard. As for my next RfA, I will post a self-nomination, as there are some things that I need to address personally instead of having someone else do it for me. You are actually off in your edit count by around 2,000. I actually have around 14.3k edits; toolserver hasn't updated my edit counters in several weeks now. The total number of edits that I have according to the my settings tab is 15,013, but you then have to count the 630ish deleted edits and subtract that from my total. I'll send you an e-mail concerning this topic more tomorrow. If I don't send it to you by mid-day tomorrow, feel free to poke/prod me on here to get you to send it. Cheers! Razorflame 05:13, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm just going to throw this out there. Do with it what you will. Sarah Ewart said something in one of Spiderpig0001's RfAs that I think would be good advice to you too. "You would do better to wait until somebody respected in the community tells you that you're ready and is willing to put their own reputation on the line by nominating you." Just something to consider. Like I said, do with it what you will. · Tygrrr... 05:36, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
That is a good idea Tygrrr. That would definitely be a good thing. That is what will happen. I will wait until someone notable from the community tells me that I am ready for an RfA. I personally think that I have gotten the hang of the deletion policy now, and as for the protection policy, I've already learned that you don't need to protect pages often and that when you do, you should read the page's history as see how many of the past edits have actually been vandalism and how many of the recent edits have been good faith. Razorflame 22:18, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well other than Hailey_C._Shannon, Cethegus, and probably a few other users, there's pretty much no one else to run a RfA. Last (successful) one hasn't occurred for more than 1 month by now, which is kind of unusual for mid-sized or growing wikis. --§ Snake311 (click here to chat) 05:55, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
It shouldn't really matter whether or not someone puts up an RfA or not. Wikipedia is Wikipedia; people will eventually start coming here and we will get more administrators in the future, but for now, there aren't too many people that will actually fit the ticket. There are, in fact, only a few users that I would be comfortable nominating for adminship in a few months, but other than that, I do not believe that there are any other users that would be wanting to put up an RfA. I've already asked Cethegus if he/she would like me to nominate him/her for adminship, but it was declined. Same goes for Hikitsurisan. I feel that you aren't active enough to be able to complete a successful RfA, and I haven't even seen Hailey on in a while. There are several users that I would be comfortable with posting an RfB for, however, RfB's aren't needed because apparently, we have no need for any more bureaucrats. There are 2 users that I have been thinking about nominating for checkuser, however, of those two users, one has already declined it when I asked him about it in the IRC channel. The other user, I feel, is just about ready to become a checkuser, but then again, I do not think that we need anymore checkusers, mainly because there is hardly anything for checkusers to do on this site because we haven't had any issues as of late. Razorflame 22:18, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
3 checkusers and 3 bureaucrats seems to be enough for now. For the 'crats, their only job is to change user names when requested, flag bots when needed, or promote admins (although not many successful RfA happen anymore). As of now, the checkusers have pretty much nothing on their hands to do, except for cleaning up categories or helping in the VGA/GA process. Also, we have enough admins (maybe too much) in this wiki. Since most of them are active, I'd say this wiki is going fine in its current status. Anyways, the other users have declined RfAs. For me, I don't plan to run another RfA since right now, I've become more and more addicted to YouTube, Buzznet, and several other websites that limit my activity in wikipedia. Maybe if I snap out of it, I could be more active again, but then there is always homework *blows raspberries*. --§ Snake311 (click here to chat) 21:57, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

encopypaste

Don't forget the date on {{encopypaste}}. I changed Irensei.  :) --Bärliner 18:59, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

There's an option to put the date onto it? How do I go about adding the date onto it? Would it be {{encopypaste|<insert date here>}}? Razorflame 22:10, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
{{encopypaste|1=<date>}} I think. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:12, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks much, Gwib! Now I can start adding dates to the encopypastes that I put onto articles. Razorflame 21:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
