August 2014 change

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Cypriot football clubs. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 02:45, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Nea Salamis Famagusta FC" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Rus793 (talk) 15:49, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia gives permission under the GFDL to “reproduce, distribute, or modify the work”, as long as they provide attribution (say where they got it and credit the authors). If no attribution is provided there is no permission given, which means it is a copyright violation. Simplifying or changing the words does not get around the copyright law if this is a derivative work (based on an article from another wiki). There are three templates provided to easily attribute the page an article was copied from. These are in the policy Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution. Please follow the directions under the section ‘For manual moves’. If you have any questions or any of this is not clear, please ask. We appreciate your submissions here but they must comply with Simple English Wikipedia policies. Thank you Rus793 (talk) 12:32, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Copy-pasting articles from the English Wikipedia change

First, and not to contradict anything mentioned earlier, it is perfectly OK to copy and paste articles from another wiki IF they are simplified to Simple English Wikipedia standards AND attribution is provided. See: Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia. Since the first versions of the articles were copy-pasted from enwiki and not attributed, even if they are simplified they still need attribution. The difference between a derivative work (changed and/or modified) and an original article is very subtle here. An administrator will need to make that determination. The idea here is to create good articles. Your first submissions would have been much better articles if only attribution was provided—a very easy but necessary thing to do. Two way communication is also key to this issue. Again, if you have any questions posting them here may quickly clear this up. Either I or another editor can help you with this.
