We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Syntactic Structures" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Rus793 (talk) 22:12, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Syntactic Structures

change

Hello, Zaheen. I looked at your comment on this article as well as at the article itself. I thought that the sentence structure was simple enough, but there were quite a few complex words. However, instead of deleting the article, I moved it to User:Zaheen/Syntactic Structures so you could work on it if you want. If you don't want to, let me know and I can delete the user page. If you want, I can give you a list of the words that I think are complex. Let me know if you want me to do that. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:41, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Auntof6:, thanks for keeping it alive. I must say I was quite shocked to see how rapidly it got deleted. Even after I put up a rationale AND a wait sign. Scary and quite a turn-off.

Please let me know the list of complex words. I am willing to work on them. Zaheen (talk) 11:12, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK, here's the list of words and phrases that I think could be simplified (not necessarily in the order used). Keep in mind that some words on the Basic English lists have multiple meanings, and some of those meanings could be considered complex even though the word in on the list.
all-formal
at its base
monograph
offered (in the sense used here)
instinctively
thus
valued (complex when used as a verb, partly because there are two meanings for the verb)
ideal
studies
turn of the second millennium
These are the ones I think seem complex, but I'm open to discussing if you disagree with any of them. To resolve these, you could replace them with simpler words, link them to an article (if there is one for the word or concept), or remove them. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6:Thanks for the list. I will work on the article and let you know when it's ready for a review. Zaheen (talk) 15:54, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
