- 10 January – Foreign Minister Ghazali Shafie survived a plane crash.[1]
- 1 March – Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad arrived in Abu Dhabi for a two-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).[2]
- April – In the 1982 Malaysian General Elections, Mohd Taha Talib, the State Assemblyman for Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, was found murdered. Mokhtar Hashim, the Culture, Youth, and Sports Minister, was arrested and later convicted for his involvement in the murder.
- 29 April – McDonald's Malaysia opened its first restaurant on Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.[3]
