- I still see a few things that I think should be fixed:
- No space before ref tags.
- References should be done using citation templates, like {{cite web}}
- All books cited should be mentioned (there is {{cite book}})
- Other than that, good work.--Eptalon (talk) 10:46, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Done, is it close to VGA now? I've been working on it. -- ApEtSIG 06:05, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
I've copyedited it, changed a few styles to coincide with English Wikipedia's manual of style, translated some into British English (since the subject is himself British) and that's about it from me. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:06, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm now getting some references and I'm about to fix any OVERLINKS. Cheers -- America †alk 18:13, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

VGA concerns
change{{pvgademotion}}
Read through the article, and I have concerns about the article when compared to VGA requirements:
- First, references don't appear to be outwardly reliable. The following need their reliably demonstrated:
- http://www.charlesspurgeon.net/ (ref 2)
- Helium.com (refs 21 and 14)
- [1] http://www.puritansermons.com (ref 13)
- http://www.swordsearcher.com (ref 19)
- Wordpress (ref 24)
- http://www.adherents.com/ (ref 22)
- Most importantly http://www.spurgeon.org, which is used throughout the article
- Two dead links, and ref 10 is dead as well Fixed
- Will address more issues when these are dealt with. Albacore (talk · changes) 02:19, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- As we stand at this minute, a clear fail:
- Reliability of refs (a most serious issue)
- Wrong date format: unlink, and put into international style. Fixed
- I looked in vain for an independent assessment of his character and achievements. Whole reads as a panegyric essay, despite the section on conflicts with Baptist Union. We don't actually get to hear what the Union said about him. Altogether too much in favour of the subject, and hence not neutral.
- I doubt the truth of the "published more books than any other religious writer". Such massive claims have to be nailed to the floor by way of evidence.

Depression?
changei noticed that the article says that he suffered with depression. i also noticed that it was never sourced. when i quickly scanned the regular english version of this page i could not find any traces of him having depression. is this just an assuption, original reaserch, or a poor word choise to help simplify something?
Maintenance of GA and VGA lists
changeAs part of maintenance efforts for the list of VGAs and GAs, the article's promotion and demotion details were updated and the following noted for general information:
- At the time of this article's demotion, there was no process for the demotion of VGAs to GAs. As such, this article was demoted directly from a VGA to a regular article. Chenzw Talk 06:30, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
Not known much now?
changeWell, for one I hadn't heard of him therefore I think the statement in the intro of "People still know him as the "Prince of Preachers", is excessive. Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:10, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
