Check on article against WP:VGA criteria change

  1. The article must be about a subject which belongs in Wikipedia. There is no use improving articles that do not belong here, and better fit another wiki, like Wikibooks, Wikispecies, Wiktionary, etc.
Done - Hantuchova is one of the best female tennis players in the world over the past eight years.
  2. The article must be comprehensive. A comprehensive article is not missing any major facts and details.
Done - all major incidents have been covered and personal information is also included.
  3. The article must have a certain length. A minimum is 5 kilobytes, not including infoboxes, images, references, other websites, interwiki, and categories. There is no use in denoting very short articles as very good.
Done - according to this there is currently 7.15Kb of text (as of 11:24, 5 July 2008 (UTC))
  4. The article must have gone through a few revisions, possibly by different editors. No one writes perfect articles.
Done - currently on revision 79. The option of other editors contribution is still available.
  5. The article must be placed in the appropriate category. It must have at least one interwiki link.
Done - categorised and fully interwiki-ed.
  6. The last few revisions should be minor changes (like spell-checking or link-fixing).
Done - last few revisions have been to correct typos and links.
  7. All important terms should be linked and there must be no red links left. Red links point to articles that do not exist yet. Usually the important word or phrase is only linked the first time it occurs.
Done - no redlinks. I believe most, if not all, tennis specific "jargon" is linked.
  8. If there are any illustrations, they must be pertinent to the article. They must also be properly labelled.
Done - two correctly labelled images.
  9. There must be no templates pointing to the fact that the article needs improvement. These templates include {{complex}}, {{cleanup}}, {{stub}}, {{unreferenced}} and {{wikify}}. The article also should not need them.
      Done - no templates.
  10. Content that is from books, journal articles or other publications needs to be referenced. This can either be done with <ref>..</ref><references/> tags, or as a list of publications. For articles that have references or external links on the English Wikipedia, there must be at least one in the Simple English article as well.
Done - Simple English article has 23 correctly formatted references using the {{cite web}} template versus regular English Wikipedia which has 14, none of which are formatted using good templates.

Number 7 tends to always be the most likely killer.. I went through and linked a number of terms, most worked out fine but there are now a couple redlinks. Instances like "Backhand" being linked but "forehand" was not. "Sponsor" (sponsered by Nike) is not simple and would need either a wikt link or a page on sponsorship (likely an article looking at the aspects, effects and history of sponsorship in professional sports). Vogue should also be covered. A few of the others I realy do not know how important they are and if they deserve to be linked: the academy she trains at, the three people listed as coaches, the Sony ad campaign (and the word "campaign" is in need of attention) and the program she was a part of with Navratilova. Likely some of these could all go to red links as well. -- Creol(talk) 18:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Awesome. I'm on it. Thanks for your feedback. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:11, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Surname change

I'm from Czech republic and Slovak is the closest language to our own and we can understand it almost perfectly. Anyway, in Slovak, like in many other Slavic languages, the male and female surname differs. So while she is named HantuchOVÁ and her mother is named HantuchOVÁ her father's surname is HantuchA. 88.101.156.28 (talk) 13:01, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Splendid, thanks for the clarification and the edit. We don't want mistakes on the mainpage! The Rambling Man (talk) 13:04, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Needs minor update change

The article seems to leave off around 2008 or 2009. I'd try to improve it, but I don't follow tennis at all. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 06:26, 23 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Daniela Hantuchová (born April 23, 1983 in Poprad, Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia) In 1983 Slovakia was the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
Well I think most people in the known universe referred to it as Czechoslovakia unless you can prove otherwise, cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:12, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Her mother, Mariane Hantuchová, has interests in poisons. What are interests? Does she work in the poison industry?

I was going to make similar points. Please don't ignore this, sports fans, or the page may get demoted. Macdonald-ross (talk) 17:34, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Good job Kennedy bothered updating SPL as well, eh?! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:32, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

All excellent points. Perhaps take the time to nudge the major contributors (not now, obviously, but in the futoor) ... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:07, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Other websites in {{cite web}}
    • Done.
  • Photos need alt text
    • Done.
  • To comply with en:WP:ACCESS, the table in the "Victories" section needs scope row and column tags
  • Ref 21 seems more like a note; a notes section should be added.
    • Moved.
  • She played tennis for Slovakia in an... delink Slovakia; linked earlier
    • Done.
  • In ref 20 BBC is not italicized.
    • None of them should be. All fixed bar that one which was correct.
  • Helena used to be a Slovakian national champion. citation needed; if she was a Slovakian national champion then she might be worthy of an article?
    • Ref is 2, at the end of the para. No, not worthy of an article on en.wiki so hardly likely here.
  • but still went back to Bratislava, Slovakia, to study. I'd suggest changing the link to "study" to wikt since it's a DAB here
    • Done.
  • Update the lead at Wikipedia:Very good articles/Daniela Hantuchová to reflect changes
    • Will be done once brought up to date.

I would have contacted the major contributor, but things came up. Albacore (talk · changes) 23:56, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Long legs & other things change

Full of the usual pop culture over-adulation. The claim that long legs make you run faster cannot be proved, and the author of ref #6 is smart enough not to make the claim. And why is international date format not used? Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:34, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Still worthy of VGA? change

I noticed this article was on the main pain. Considering the red links and update needed template, does it still qualify for VGA? It may be a good idea to have a look through all the current GAs and VGAs to make sure things are still up to date/OK. --Yottie =talk= 15:06, 15 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The narrative of the article stops in 2011. I tagged it for update in 2015. Someone knowledgeable about her career and tennis could bring it up to date. The article is also relatively brief. --Gotanda (talk) 10:43, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Personally, I have never seen it as a VGA, see my thoughts above. There is a difference, I think, between a page having nothing much wrong with it, and a page which is actually worth making a fuss over. Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:51, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I suppose I have to say, though it should be obvious, that I don't go much for the system of GAs and VGAs as we do it, but recognise that essentially nothing can be done about it. Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:01, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
