Welcome change

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need help. Peterdownunder (talk) 12:17, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

July 2015 change

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "National Polytechnic School" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:27, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please stop copying pages from the English Wikipedia without simplifying them first, as you did again with Catoptrics and Meridian circle. They are too complex for our readers. Thank you User:Rus793 (talk) 00:58, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Simplification does not mean to copy less of a complex article. It means to use shorter Simple sentences using Basic (or Simple) English words. Where it is not practical to use a Basic English word, link the word to another Simple English Wikipedia article or to the Simple English Wiktionary. Our target audience is children and those who are new to the English language. We are not a copy of the English Wikipedia. If it were possible for many in this audience to read complex articles they would likely read them there. It is somewhat of an adjustment for editors from the English Wikipedia to write Simple English articles. But it is one many enwiki editors have made and we welcome enwiki editors. Wikipedia:An English Wikipedian's guide is written for enwiki editors. Please follow the guideline Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia so as to properly edit an English Wikipedia (enwiki) article for Simple English (simplewiki) Wikipedia and comply with Wikipedia's single copyright requirement (attribution). Many enwiki categories and some templates are not supported here. It is better to copy an article without categories and assign them here (at least one, other editors will help categorize articles). If you need any help or have any questions about simplifying articles or Wikipedia copyright, please ask here or you can post questions to wikipedia:Simple talk (same as the Village pump at enwiki). Our administrators (most of whom are also active editors) and editors here will be happy to help you. Thanks you User:Rus793 (talk) 13:29, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Please stop directly copying articles from English Wikipedia. Articles there are usuallly too complex for this Wikipedia. This is Simple English Wikipedia. Articles here must be written in simple language.Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia might be helpful to you. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:01, 25 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
