A discussion
change@Mike Peel: Hello Bro! Once I uploaded a file from this link. But it's deleted, a few days back. The reason was given as for having no permission from the real author. But in the description given in the page of the link, "In Public Domain" is explicitly mentioned. I told the deletion nominator twice but he didn't respond me. What shall I do? The file was c:File:ꯉꯁꯤꯒꯤ ꯃꯅꯤꯄꯨꯔ.jpg. Haoreima (talk) 09:09, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Looking at the archive.org link, I can't see anywhere that mentions that it is CC-BY-SA, which is how you uploaded it to Commons. If it is public domain, you should upload it as public domain. But I doubt it is in the public domain, since it seems to be a recent publication (1995?), so surely would still be covered by copyright. If you really think it should be undeleted, and copyright is clear, then I recommend submitting a request at commons:Commons:Undeletion requests to see what people there think. Thanks. - Bro! In the description, there are many information provided started with d.c.. For example, d.c. publication, d.c. theme, d.c. genres, among which d.c. rights says In public domain. Haoreima (talk) 14:25, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- I know, I saw that, but it seems doubtful that a recent book would be in the public domain. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:51, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

- Actually, I mean, in future, if I want to upload files from archive org, and it still highlights In public domain, if I upload it as it's in public domain, then will there be no deletion nomination? In fact, are CC-BY-SA & public domain not equivalent? Haoreima (talk) 14:52, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- There shouldn't be problems, providing you match the license, and clearly give the source. CC-BY-SA is a license for copyrighted work that includes specific requirements for reuse, it's very different from public domain, where there are no restrictions for reuse. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:54, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- In the past, I have committed a few mistakes. I upload some files from the public domain books, by giving the information as it's under CC-BY-SA. And the bots also put some edits after my information. Can I still change those into "public domain" information? Haoreima (talk) 14:59, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, you should fix them. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 15:00, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- One more question! If the uploader of the book in the archive org says it's in public domain (irrespective of its publication years, whether recent or very old), then am I free to perform the upload? I mean am I not responsible as I can depend on the uploader's information (public domain)? Haoreima (talk) 15:22, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Only the copyright owner can release something into the public domain, or release it under a free license - so it depends on who the uploader of the book is. If it's a library, for example, they can't release it themselves. Ideally it would need a clear statement from the author directly. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 15:24, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

A word of appreciation
changeI received a few notifications about topics I created that were added to Wikidata perhaps because of their value. You have my gratitude for your work for adding these topics for use and preservation. Keep it up.--NadirAli (talk) 23:07, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
WAGR Ra class wikidata connection
changeHi, you recently connected some of my pages to wikidata for which I am very much grateful, however you connected my article about the Ra class to the wikidata for Ra class (diesel). My page refers to the steam locomotive Ra class designation not the diesel classification. I understand how this confusion could occur, and would like to ask if you could remove the incorrect wikidata link if you could (there is no Ra class (steam) page on the normal wikipedia yet). Thanks, apologies if I bothered you or if I made any mistakes. S547 Lindsay (talk) 12:00, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

- Thanks for the correction. It's now linked to a new item at WAGR Ra class (Q123314343). Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 12:42, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
