Differences

Hi Winterysteppe. Thank you for the new articles you brought over. You might be realizing by now we are a separate Wikipedia with some differences you many not have encountered at Enwiki. See the Wikipedia:Guide to layout for the preferred section names used here. For example, "See also", used at Enwiki, is "Related pages" here. "External links" is "Other websites" here, and is usually the last section in an article. For help in copying articles from Enwiki, the steps are covered in the guideline Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia. Copying articles from other Wikipedias is perfectly acceptable—if they are simplified and attribution is given (crediting the editors at the other project). Try to add at least one category. Be aware the categories are different here. Watch for unsupported templates in the copied text. Either copy the templates here, as you did in a couple of cases, or remove the references to them in the article. The article you started, Carteret, New Jersey, had a number of citation errors (since fixed). These were because of named references used in the Enwiki article, the main or first citation (establishing the ref name shortcut) not having been copied here. This is covered in the 'How to copy from another Wikipedia' step #18. If you have any questions or would like any help, please ask here or on the Wikipedia:Simple talk page. New templates

Hi, Winterysteppe. I noticed that you created several templates recently that appear to have come from English Wikipedia ("enwiki"). It's fine to do that, but when you do that, please also do the following:

• Bring over the documentation page, if the template has one. The documentation page explains how to use the template, and also includes categories.
• Make sure the template is categorized. If we have the same categories that the template uses on enwiki, then either the doc page or the template itself should have what we need. If not, you might have to change the categories to fit the ones that we have here.
• Link the template in Wikidata to the one in enwiki. I did a write-up on how to do this. It's at User:Auntof6/How to#Interwiki language links for new pages.

Attribution

Hi again. When you add an attribution template, as you did on Talk:Metuchen, New Jersey, the URL needs to be to a specific version of the page. The URL you gave was the regular link to the page. Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution explains how to find the correct URL to use. Please go back to the pages where you've added attribution and make sure the correct URLs are used. April 2016

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but an article you created was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. Template:USCensusDemographics

Hi, Winterysteppe. I saw that you created this template. When you create a template that has a lot of text in it like this one does, the text needs to be in simple language. The text in this one is not dimple, partly because of compound sentences and partly because of complex words. Spotswood, New Jersey

A spot check of sources in this article turned up one that failed verification—in other words, the source did not support the statement. There may be more and you might want to go back and check them. The statement here is "The settlement dates back to 1685." Any source for this statement should say the settlement was started in 1685. Since this is a version of the Enwiki article (for which you need to add attribution, BTW) the error was copied with the text. When you copy and paste an Enwiki article, you cannot assume the sources are necessarily all good. Stacked references (for example "[17][18][19]") for a single statement (when one reliable source citation is usually sufficient) is often something to be a little suspicious of. Another problem you see with stacked sources in copied articles is synthesis. This is when a statement in the article is not fully supported by a single reliable source, but rather when part of the statement is supported by one source and other parts by other sources. In this case there was no synthesis, but it is something to watch for when you see stacked references in copied articles. Anyway, just a heads-up. Your articles are looking good. I just saw there was some activity on this page. I hope you didn't misunderstand and remove the information because you thought all the sources were bad—only one failed verification and I removed it. I just suggested you check the other sources to make sure they were OK (clicking on the link in the Resources section and reading the source to verify it said what it was reputed to say. Your removal of that information was unexplained which is why another editor reverted your good faith edit. I logged back on this evening and noticed it on my watchlist. FYI, an editor should not simply remove information—especially sourced information—without giving a good reason. Better still, if you see the need to remove information in any article, it is always better to explain why you think it should be removed, then wait a week or two to gain consensus from other editors. A discussion with other editors may offer other suggestions to accomplish the same thing. I hope you understand that when an editor starts a new page, that page then belongs to the Simple English Wikipedia community (of which you are a part) and not to any individual editor. Sometimes that idea isn't made as clearly on our sister projects as it is here. Anyway, if you have any questions, please ask. Articles on provinces of Thailand

Hi, Winterysteppe. I've seen the articles you created for provinces of Thailand, and they've all needed some cleanup. Please note the following:

• Please do not include templates that we do not have, such as {{Provinces of Thailand}}.
• Also please do not include categories that we do not have, such as categories for individual provinces.
• If you include templates for sister projects, such as Wikimedia Commons or WikiVoyage, please be sure that those sites actually have the links that result from the templates. Please also be sure that the links go to pages for the province itself.
• Please use the heading "Other websites" instead of "External links".
• Before saving the page, preview it to make sure it looks right. Fix anything that looks wrong before you save. Chumphon Province had something strange-looking near the bottom that was the result of using the {{Authority control}} template without any parameters.
