Userbox template
Did Template:Userbox get migrated anywhere? mC8 15:38, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- According to the page's deleted history, it was moved to User:The Flying Spaghetti Monster/Userbox. I have no idea why. — AE (talk) 17:00, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Gwib deleted it as userbox templates are no longer allowed in mainspace. It appeared I was the only one who noticed the dissapearance so I asked him to move it to my userspace. F S M 17:02, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Just noticed the discussion about it is just a little bit up the page D: F S M 17:03, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's not a userbox, it's the code. It has hundreds of links to it. Unless said otherwise, I restoring it. It has messed up most of our user pages. — AE (talk) 17:13, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. I'm not sure why he deleted it the first place to be honest. F S M 17:17, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Oi! I told you exactly why I deleted it, and FSM was perfectly correct. No userbox templates in the mainspace. By rule, I should delete it again, but since it seems it's gone unnoticed for so long, I suppose it could stay (although against regulations). --Gwib -(talk)- 17:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Condensation
[1] - You state in that edit that "Any gas can condensate, but at very high or low temperatures". Everything I have read and learned about temperature, theromodynamic temperature, condensation, Gay-Lussac's law and phase changes screams out that you forgot the word "Pressure" after "very high". If you are sticking with your statement that high temperature can cause consensation a reference is needed. Even using Gay-Lussac's law in a confined area and increasing the temperature to increase the volume, the two would balance each other out and prevent condensation. -- Creol(talk) 07:09, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think you got the wrong talk page, Creol. I haven't touched that article. --Gwib -(talk)- 08:51, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, it was FSM blaspheming against the words of wisdom of Gay-Lussac. --Gwib -(talk)- 08:55, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- //Checks link again - switches it to a diff link// Nope the revision definitely has your name on it with the summary "Complete rewrite". Third block down has you rewriting it to say "Condensation of water is when water turns from gas to a liquid or crystal shape. Any gas can condensate, but at very high or low temperatures." The link you provided is the reason I am looking in to this one. Him using a faulty page here to defend his case pointed out we need to fix that one or verify it. -- Creol(talk) 12:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Righto, FSM added a reference for gases condensing at high pressure. It says stuff condenses when "the vapour pressure of the material is increased." So I'm guessing from the reference that gas can condense at high temperatures, but only when pressure is also a variable. Or, to be exact, when the pressure of a gas at a high temperature is greater than the pressure of the liquid or solid form of that gas. I'll go fix the page.
- Curiously enough, I wrote that almost exactly a year ago today. Who knew that age-old edits would come back to haunt you. --Gwib -(talk)- 14:58, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Testicles
I'm just tidying up Sex organs. It seems like a good article with just a few tweaks to the language needed to make it acceptable to one who has been a feminist since the 60s, etc.
Testicles needs its links fixed.

- But I returned from my 2nd retirement today. Should I go for a third? StaticFalcon Give me a SHOUT! 20:51, Saturday August 30 2008 (UTC)
- StaticFalcon, you recently came back from retirement. You seem to be only retiring because 1 or 2 users tell you that you did something wrong... we all make mistakes, but retiring after every single little one when someone tells you did something wrong or your not doing something well is just confusing. Your first retirement was because of 2 or 3 users coming to your talk page, kindly asking that you to ask for permission before you put something in their userspace, then you said that your useless or something similar (not true, your not useless) and retired. Your second retirement was only because two users opposed your RfA. Nothing to retire over. Now your retiring for pretty much no reason at all? Retirement means that you leave Wikipedia for good, but you come back multiple times. And when you retire, you usually get messages like "don't go" and stuff like that, which is why you come back from what I've seen. StaticFalcon, I know your young (11 years old?), but you seem to retire over little criticism. If someone tells you you did a mistake, just improve yourself on it and never do it again, and you can surely become a good editor. :) Just listen to the advice people tell you. Retiring won't do anything to help you improve, but listening to the advice people tell you and improving yourself based on them will. You want to become a good editor, right? Well, just keep trying, and don't leave us again. I'm pretty sure we all appreciate the work you've done for Simple Wikipedia so far, but all you have to do is just improve on yourself from what you have done wrong, and you'll do great. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 21:09, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Nelson Mandela is not a terrorist for NPOV?
Hi administrator Gwib,
thank you for participating in editing the simple english wikipedia!
I noticed that you have removed my following edit:
- "(...) Another example of a well-known terrorist is Nelson Mandela which later became the South-Africa president.(...)"
in the terrorism simple english article with this revision that took place today, saturday 13th September 2008 at 9:21 GMT+1.
You motivated your revision with:
- "(rv NPOV info)".
Please notice that in the english wikipedia article on at the "Pejorative use" section you will find this written:
- "(...) There is the famous statement: 'One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.' But that is grossly misleading. It assesses the validity of the cause when terrorism is an act. One can have a perfectly beautiful cause and yet if one commits terrorist acts, it is terrorism regardless."[28] Some groups, when involved in a "liberation" struggle, have been called terrorists by the Western governments or media. Later, these same persons, as leaders of the liberated nations, are called statesmen by similar organizations. Two examples of this phenomenon are the Nobel Peace Prize laureates Menachem Begin and Nelson Mandela.[29][30][31][32][33][34][35] (...)
So Nelson Mandela was mentioned by the media as being a "terrorist" till 1990.
Maybe we should think about putting the word "terrorist" between inverted commas then, or not?
Please continue this conversation in the "terrorism" article talk page.
Thanks.
Maurice Carbonaro (talk) 16:43, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, I reverted your contribution because of one key factor. It was not sourced. If you'll check out the quote above which you took from the ENWP article, you'll see "[29][30][31][32][33][34][35]". These all link to various websites and books confirming the information. If you want to include Nelson Mandela as a terrorist, please source appropriately based on WP:SOURCE.
- Basically, I assumed that since it was not sourced, that it was your point of view (POV) and this isn't allowed per WP:POV. Sourcing appropriately cancels out this assumption.
- Thanks for the message. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:56, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Heya Gwib, I'm just wondering, since you were on the "people-with-an-awesome-sig-that-can-help-awesome-ify-your-sig" page, can you help me with a little problem? I copied and changed your code for your colour-changing sig, and did three parts to link to each of my pages that may (or may not) want to be seen by the public, also hoping that each would change individually, but they always end up being the same colour. Is there anything in the code I can change so that they can all be different colours randomly?

Please explain why you reverted my edit to Sebb's talk page? I won't revert you, but I need a reason not to. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:59, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- There is some information that I don't want shown alongside my name in a search for it. Then, the admin who was doing that may find out and I don't want that to happen. Wikipedia pages have no "owners", and I shouldn't have to "take it up with [Sebb]" because I don't want search engines to access it. It's like making a comment on a user talk page, then changing it, then someone reverts your change, telling you to discuss with the user. It doesn't make sense, and it's not practical, because of what's been going on with this admin. I'm tempted to reveal the username of this admin, but I'm reluctant, because it's gotten me in trouble before. But please, hide the comment. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 18:00, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm willing to delete the talk page and restore without your edit. Then you can re-write the comment without anything you deem unnecessary. However, I won't allow hiding comments just because you're nervous of repercussions. Basically, think before you write. It's up to you as to how you want to re-word the message, but hiding something because you don't want another user to see it in an internet trawl is immature. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:05, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't want the edit to be hidden from people, I want it to be hidden from search engines. I also do not see what is puerile, immature, or petulant about wanting to protect your privacy. It's not just Michael, it's all harassment that I want to prevent when using a search engine. Oversighting, selective restoration, and other forms of non-transparent forms of hiding information from search engines will make an edit completely erased from the history. Adding a simple notice that the info is hidden will encourage some who are reading it to see, and they can see. But they can't see using, say, Clusty to search "Jonas Rand" site:wikipedia.org. It's not immature, and I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 18:11, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm reverting you unless you really give a good reason, Ionas. You're hiding a comment so that some will see it (i.e. those whom are concerned in the comment), and so that others who are concerned will not know about it's existence. It's not only immature, it's cowardly and pointless. I'm offering to delete the page, but again I won't allow a cowardly, useless comment meant only to bring down reputations. If you want a discussion hidden from google, use e-mails. But don't post a hidden comment so that those you're bitching about don't know it's going on. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:22, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Whatever, do what you want. I've been called out of my name, "immature", "cowardly", and said to have been "bitching". I give up now. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 18:25, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't called you immature or cowardly. Just your actions/situation. Now, do you want the entire comment exposed to the merciless google or do you want to whittle it down? --Gwib -(talk)- 18:26, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't care now. Michael's going to harass me anyway, so I'll just revert myself back to the exposed version. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 18:28, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
(unindenting)Well, you quote him as "searching for [your] real name", so him picking up this issue is just going to justify his searching of you. If he's clever, he won't comment, let alone harass. If he isn't, or if he has a vendetta against you, then he'll intervene. Until then, lets assume the former. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:34, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. Hey there. Earlier, I performed a range block, but I wasn't sure if I did it properly. Do you mind checking to see if I did it right? New administrators usually have questions. :) Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 05:27, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Looks good! 3 months seems to be a tad long, but it depends on what's in the "long history of vandalism" you've put in the reason. Try to check that there's no collateral damage, but I don't think I've seen any active contributors from that range. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Looking at this, there's multiple severe vandalism edits a few times every few months. I think 3 months is good enough for now. All I see is nothing but vandalism by some checks through the contributions. I don't see any constructive edits, so the block would mostly be benefiting us. Thanks for your help! -- RyanCross (talk) 05:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- There ain't nothin' there, boy. You've got the wrong contribution list. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:39, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me. I'm showing you the contributions of that range, right (or something)? -- RyanCross (talk) 05:41, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
No changes were found matching these criteria. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:42, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- For me it shows a long list of edits from different IP addresses. Strange. Well, as long as the block was issued, I'm fine. -- RyanCross (talk) 05:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Shutting down half of a school district for three months for the actions of two smallers IP ranges (32-38 and 97-111) is a tad overkill. As one of the two ranges has not edited in about a year, you are only talking about one small IP range in need of attention (210.8.54.96/28) 16 IPs instead of 256. Limited IP block and a modified {{SchoolIP}} tag to alert others who come across it later. (see the Reseach Machines UK header on User talk:62.171.194.4 for an idea about small range school IP warnings) -- Creol(talk) 05:57, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not experienced with range blocks, so I guess it would have been best to leave it to someone else. Thanks Creol. Feel free to revert/correct my block(s)! -- RyanCross (talk) 06:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not experienced in the field of ranges whatsoever. I was the one who recommended to block that range, but I didn't check if it was a school range. Thanks, Creol.
Gwib, it appears that you don't have the CIDR range gadget turned on in your preferences, or you didn't wait for the little sun image to appear along with the list of contribs. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 06:14, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ionas: I'd checked it ages ago, still doesn't work. Possibly should use a different browser...
- Creol: Curious, how do you get information for a range block? I rely on my (imperfect) memory, but would I need checkuser status to do otherwise? --Gwib -(talk)- 18:11, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- For a range block or about a range block? "For" is easy, you get one of them non-superior browsers and a non-artsy-fartsy computer, click the button and use your maths on the results. YOu could use range calculators if your maths are questionable or you are lazy. The block screen itself points to a range calculator (that little link in the upper right that says "range calculator"). There is a tool on the toolserver for the "About" or you could just Ctrl+F (or whatever keys your fruity box uses) and search the last 1000 or so blocks for the first part of the ip range. Annoyingly if you actually use the logs search function, it wont show the block as the range (/x) confuses it. Checkuser will tell what rangeblock is responsible for a specific IP being blocked on certain checks (CU does different things, only certain ones pass back block information)
- I used logs search, got nothing so that explains quite a lot. Thanks for the link, although it took me a few tries on different IP addresses to work it out.
- I'll just wait for my computer to make me a cup of tea and a biscuit, whilst it sings a short song and massages my buttocks, before making any more edits. Arty-farsty, pfft. Only the necessities. Ta ta. --Gwib -(talk)- 15:33, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey!
- Quits with the deleting of stuff I'm deleting. I don't like that "We're sorry, you are too slow" screen it gives me.
- It had content.. wasn't close to notable but it did say a bunch of stuff. Just nothing anyone realy wanted to read.
hmmph-- Creol(talk) 18:15, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Rollback failed!! You win this round, but you won't win the war! Damn poetic justice. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Stop it, or I will be forced to apply for rollback and beat both of you. Microchip • talk 19:18, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
