Junko Shimada (born in 1941) is a Japanese fashion designer who created her own clothing brand.[1][2] She has been a fashion designer/stylist for her own clothing brand for around 40 years.[1][2] Shimada grew up in Japan but moved to Paris to work for an American clothing company.[2] She ended up staying in Paris and work as a stylist.[2] Shimada eventually started her own brand called the Junko Shimada.[1]

Early Life: change

Shimada was born in the Chiba Prefecture in 1941.[1] Growing up, she dreamed of working for Levi’s, an American clothing company known for their denim clothing.[2] She graduated from Sugino Gakuen Dressmaker Jogakuin, a fashion designing/dressmaker school.[1] Shimada moved to Paris to fulfill her dreams in 1966, but decided to stay in Paris as a stylist instead.[2]

Career: change

After moving to Paris, Shimada worked as a stylist for trending agencies and collaborated with famous fashion companies.[2] She then started her own brand, called the Junko Shimada in 1981.[1] Shimada combined French history and Japanese culture in her work.[2] Ever since she started her brand, Shimada has been featured in the Paris Fashion week.[1] In 2012, Shimada was awarded with the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government for her outstanding work in the fashion industry.[1]
