Hello, Chemicalinterest, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia!

You may want to begin by reading these pages :

For some ideas of pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

You can change any pages you want! Any changes you make can be seen immediately. You can ask questions at Wikipedia:Simple talk. At the end of your messages on talk pages, please sign your name by typing "~~~~" (four tildes)

Good luck and happy changing! wiooiw (talk) 18:32, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Aqua regia change

Hello and welcome to our little porject. I saw you edited Aqua regia. This substance is one of the few that can dissolve gold, and platinum. Do you think, you would be able to provide a "translation" for en:Aqua fortis (dissolves silver, but not gold or platinum; in fact it is nitric acid)?- Just a though, don't feel compelled, but sometimes there is a little alchemist in me. --Eptalon (talk) 21:20, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

A few tips change

Hello, dear Chemicalinterest. Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! :) Thanks for all your great help on chemical-related articles. It's nice to see another homeschooler around here (yes, I'm one too) ;) Here are a few things you might want to add to your articles:

You can try adding interwiki links (links to the other language wikipedias) like I did to your article here. They show up on the left side of the page under the heading "In other languages". The easiest way I have found to add them is to keep another window open to English Wikipedia and copy and paste the interwiki links here. Then I add [[en:Article name]] to the list in the correct alphabetical spot. That also makes it quite easy to add [[simple:Article name]] to the interwiki list on English Wikipedia. I would definitely encourage you to add the interwiki links to your articles (and any other articles) if you like, since they're pretty important!

Also, if your articles are short, you can add {{Stub}} underneath, so that other people can help making it larger. If it is too short, though, it could be fall under the first criteria for quick deletion, so it's always good to try to make it as long as possible! :)

I hope you enjoy your time here, and please remember that my talk page is always open if you need help or have questions! Have a beautiful day on your side of the wiki-world ;) Kindly, —Clementina talk 12:03, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

New Messages change

Hello, Chemicalinterest. You have new messages at Clementina's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

By the way, I usually answer questions/comments on my own talk page because of laziness and a wish to keep conversations organized, so just remember that if I haven't replied on your talk page, I've probably replied on mine. :) God bless, —Clementina talk 12:36, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Iron(II,II) oxide change

Heya, me again! I'm not sure, but I think this article name is not really correct. Did you mean to name it Iron(II,III) oxide? If you can't move it yet, I can do it for you. -Barras (talk) 17:46, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I saw one of your messages to Barras, and decided to tell you before you start: on the Simple English Wikipedia, our images are uploaded to Wikipedia Commons, unless they are all about the Simple English Wikipedia itself (such as the logo). Chemistry categories change

Chemicalinterest, hello and welcome to Simple English.

Under the category Category:Chemistry, we have sub categories Category:Chemical compounds and Category:Chemicals. To me, they seem to cover the same area. But it has been a long time since my high school chemistry class. :) If you agree they are the same, we can merge them. You can do it if you like, or I can use AWB and make quick work of it.

Thank you for all you work in the chemical area.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

(copied from User_talk:The_Three_Headed_Knight#Merging)Yes it should be merged. I am in high school and very interested in chemistry. But I am not autoconfirmed so I cannot move, although I am a more veteran editor on english wikipedia. Again, you can move it. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 15:15, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will merge them. Generally, you can just reply on your page. Most of us will watch a user's talk page when we leave a message. This also keeps the conversation in one place.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:18, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
(copied from User_talk:The_Three_Headed_Knight#Merging) Oh wait. Chemical compounds have a definite structure. Chemicals do not. Chemical compounds are all chemicals, but all chemicals are not chemical compounds. Household ammonia is a chemical, but not a chemical compound. Sorry for wrong info. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 15:16, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will put the articles back.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:40, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations change

Congratulations. My first article is List of Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes, because I want to complete the article Avatar: The Last Airbender. Good luck. Nataly8 (talk) 15:19, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Interwiki links and edit summaries change

From you user page, you say "I don't like to add interwiki links. I use edit summaries on en.wikipedia but not on simple.wikipedia (except for redirects and a few other exceptions)."

Interwiki link are important to help user navigate through the other Wikipedias. This can be especially helpful for a user that finds an English Wikipedia and needs a simpler explanation of the subject.

Edit summaries help the other editors to quickly see what changes have been made when reviewing an article. Otherwise, they need to look at each diff to see what has been changed. --The Three Headed Knight (talk) 02:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Interwikis don't need to be added, most of our interwiki bots will catch the page and add them. Edit summaries are a good idea however. -DJSasso (talk) 02:37, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Don't the bots need at least one interwiki to get started?--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 02:48, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Not always, there are different options you can set so they don't. I usually run mine on here every so often so it picks up new articles. If the en and simple articles are named the same thing then its simple and quick. Otherwise its mostly manual work. -DJSasso (talk) 02:50, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I normally try to work very fast so the edit summary gets left out many times. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 12:22, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Why you don't put categories in your articles? Nataly8 (talk) 11:22, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Which articles are you talking about? --Chemicalinterest (talk) 12:16, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Articles like Lead(II,IV) oxide. Nataly8 (talk) 12:21, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've just gone and added a category to the said article, but next time you see an article like that, you can tag it as {{uncategorized}} or even better, just add a category yourself. :) Cordially, —Clementina talk 12:26, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
That's just when I forget to add categories. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 12:43, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fr33kman approved it and we have had "Other pages" sections for quite a while. πr2 (talk • changes) 16:25, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
This still does not make it policy or a guideline. As I said, our MOS states nothing about this. And our MOS uses "See also" on the page. Because you wrote unknow, online, busy. It's many. You must write one status: or online, or busy or unknown. That's easy. Nataly8 (talk) 18:30, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh, you write the status in Special:MyPage/Status? --Chemicalinterest (talk) 18:31, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I thought you could just use {{statustop|online}} or {{statustop|offline}} at the top of your page. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 18:33, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
(change conflict) I had that problem at first too. Look at the top-right hand corner of the page, and you will see an almost white circle. Hover over it, and you will see a list. Select one of the statuses, and it should be OK. I've set you "online" manually. Hazard-SJ Talk 18:33, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Simple, what it is... change

I'd like you to consider these suggestions:

  1. When you set up a page in US spelling, always give Brit alternative spellings to any technical terms that need it. So: sulfide (UK sulphide).
  2. Don't change spelling style if article uses UK spelling. So in 'Sulphur' article, use UK spelling (see style guide).
  3. Double-check all pages you write for unexplained terms. See 'base' and 'basic', which should be linked to Base (chemistry). One link, on the first occasion of use in an article.

It's simple to do all this at the start, rather than leave a long trail of tiny glitches which may, or may not, be picked up later.

One more piece of advice: Buy a good dictionary of chemistry. There are several. This has the advantage of giving you an alternative to enWP, and a reference if you need it. I have loads of reference works! Best wishes, Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:12, 26 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

You could use this tool to see the pages you've created instead of adding every page you make to your "Articles I've created" subpage. Battleaxe9872 / 21:09, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but when you use this tool to see a pie chart of your edits, it's usually better to see a lower "Userspace edits" section and a higher "Article edits" section, which yours appears to be. Battleaxe9872 / 21:15, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
