Articles need simplifying

change

When you use material from English wiki, such as Nyala, you need to simplify the language. What you are doing is to shorten the articles (that's fine) but leaving the English as it was. Many of our readers come here because their grasp of English is limited.

Also, I see you haven't credited the original English wiki article. You must do so because the copyright of the original article is theirs. See how by reading "cite this page" on the original English wiki page. Put your attibution on the talk page of the Simple version.

Constellation articles

change

Thanks for all the new constellation articles! That's an area where we've needed more articles for a long time. By the way, when you create an article that has one or more references like some of these do, please include a reference section so that the references are displayed under the usual heading. You can look at the ones I've changed to see what I mean. Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:22, 17 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I have just updated the constellations template here forth : [1]
When I created the pages I wrongly titled one of them, which should have been [Sextans] rather than [Sextans (constellation)]. Would it be possible to correct the title of this article?
Kind regards --Couiros22 (talk) 19:38, 19 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
You can correct the title by moving the article. Use the "Move" tab at the top of the article page. It will give you a place to enter the new title, prefilled with the current title. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:25, 19 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Communes articles

change

Could you perhaps slow down your posting of sub-stubs on Communes of France? Instead of flooding the New Pages list with these one and two line stubs, could you go back and add more information? Maybe even add source citations if you can? It takes a little time to patrol all these pages and make sure they meet minimum requirements. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Rus793 (talk) 16:22, 21 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

And if you don't mind me mentioning one other thing, instead of saying "It is found in", please say just "It is in". The word "found" doesn't add any meaning, so leaving it out is sipmler. I've been trying to remove use of "found" (and "located", "situated", and similar wording) in this kind of use. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 05:13, 22 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

That's what the original templates were for the communes already listed which is why I thought that was the reference ! :( --Couiros22 (talk) 08:15, 22 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

And one more little note: In the sentences that give population figures, Instead of saying, for example, "365 people lived there in 2011", say "In 2011, 365 people lived there". That's because it's not good grammar to start a sentence with numerals. I already fixed a bunch of these, but it would be a big help if you take care of it when you add this info. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 10:44, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Its funny how you hadn't corrected errors from earlier pages in the category - from which I drew on - and that you forgot to correct the "region Picardy" instead of "Picardie region" flaw in recent edits... but in any case let's get over it shall we? --Couiros22 (talk) 15:28, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry if you feel you're being picked on. We're not picking on you. New pages and changes always draw more attention. Now that you've pointed out a group of articles that apparently need copy editing, I'll make time to check them. With a backlog as big as we have, it's hard to keep up with it all, but we do try to keep on top of new pages. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:05, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

May 2015

change

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Winnowing" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Please read Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia User:Rus793 (talk) 13:48, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I made some improvements, simplified and wikified the article more to give you an example. Please take a close look at the changes to better give you an idea of what this is about. Remember, our target readers are those new to the English language and younger readers. Also note that source citations were added, but this can come later if you don't know how to do them just yet. One more point, articles like this (a stub) should really be expanded as it is also a dictionary definition and in jeopardy of being deleted (also called moved to wiktionary). The difference between a dictionary definition and an article is that an article should provide other types of information about that topic as well. The more information (such as history, use in other cultures, etc.) the better. Also see the talk page for an example of attribution. If you have any questions please ask here or post them to Wikipedia:Simple talk and someone will answer you. User:Rus793 (talk) 14:32, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I guess it was a mistake to draw upon the level of simplicity of the Green economy article... --Couiros22 (talk) 15:13, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
We don’t need copies of English Wikipedia articles here. They are usually too complex for our readers without simplification prior to being used here. If we wanted copies of enwiki articles or parts of them a bot could copy them here. We ask editors to simplify and wikify articles for our target readers, those new to the English language and younger readers. Even though there might be clues elsewhere in the page we explain what country a place is in. It is also desirable to cite sources. And please don't forget to add attribution. Please see Wikipedia:How to write Simple English pages and Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia. If you have any questions please ask them here or at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Thank you User:Rus793 (talk) 12:30, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

August 2015

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but an article you created was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Even if you remove a lot of what is in the English Wikipedia article, you still need to simplify the part that is left. Auntof6 (talk) 15:21, 24 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Categories on bird articles

change

Hello, Couiros22. I noticed that you added Category:Birds of North America and Category:Birds of the United States to some articles about birds. These categories should not be on the same article, because one is a parent of the other. This is explained at Wikipedia:Categories#Choosing_the_correct_category. I have removed the duplicates that I could see. If the bird lives only in the US, I left the US category. Otherwise, I left the North America category. Please be sure not to put a page into two categories where one is a parent of the other. Feel free to ask if you have any questions about this. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 07:21, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

September 2015

change

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently made a new article or made changes to one, for example "Upland moa", by adding things copied from a book, magazine, newspaper or another website without the permission of the copyright holder. Many sources, including websites found on the Internet, are copyrighted. I'm afraid Wikipedia cannot accept any things copied from these sources as it can get Wikipedia into serious legal trouble. The article or changes have been or will soon be deleted. Next time, look up sources to find out information for articles and explain it in your own words, and don't copy sentences or images from them. Thank you. Text was a close copy from http://www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/upland-moa Auntof6 (talk) 02:02, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

categories

change

We don't have the same detailed categories here. Our category system is rather simplified compared to English wiki. Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:24, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hmm... right. But are all these categories also worthy of deletion Category:Birds_by_country? Regards --Couiros22 (talk) 16:00, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

December 2015

change

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Birds of India. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 18:57, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
