Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron
As that discussion has (already) been archived, I thought I woudl respond to your comment here. The reason the page appeared in the category was because you linked to it in the format [[Category:Pacific tropical cyclones]] rather than [[:Category:Pacific tropical cyclones]] When it's linked to without the colon after the double square brackets, that's the code that's required to add the category to the page, rather than linking in. So when you link it, you need to use the : before. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 20:38, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you! Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron (talk) 20:40, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Flood Flag
changeHello and thank you for all your edits! I wanted to inform you that we have a special right called the Flood flag This is a right that when you have it allows your edits to not appear on the RC feed instead of flooding it. Whenver you are going to do the same edit over and over such as adding a lot of categories its recommended to request it. This can be done on WP:AN. Thank you. July 2023
change Thank you for your changes to Wikipedia, Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron. However, I would like to remind you that when you use certain templates, you should substitute them by adding "subst:" before the template's name. An example is, use "{{subst:uw-subst}}
" instead of "{{uw-subst}}
". This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Thank you. --Ferien (talk) 19:24, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for reminding me. I meant to do that, but I forgot. Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron (talk) 19:26, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- It's alright, not a big issue. If you forget to do it, it's now automatically substituted by a bot :) --Ferien (talk) 19:28, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Change summary
changeJust a reminder, but you should always explain your changes with an change summary. Summaries save time for other editors. They lower the chance your edit will be misunderstood. Edit summaries can be brief.
The change summary field looks something like this:
Change summary (Briefly describe the changes you have made here)
☐ This is a minor change (help) ☑ Watch this page
You can also choose to be reminded when you try to publish a change without an change summary. You can do this by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank change summary. Thanks! FatalFit | ✉ | ✓ 22:27, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you. I will do that. Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron (talk) 22:28, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
Emptying categories
changeI noticed that you recently emptied a number of categories. These include:
- Category:American companies by location
- Category:American psychoanalysts
- Category:Crimes in California by decade
...and possibly others -- I haven't done a complete check yet.
The changes you made to empty these had no edit summaries. Please explain why you emptied them. If they are categories you think shouldn't exist, it is better to use the RfD process to get agreement on that, instead of just emptying them. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 02:04, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Auntof6 Most of these are made to contain 2-3 other categories and are useless. To group together "American companies by city" and "American companies by state" doesn't benefit anybody and only makes it take longer to get to the content you want to see. Category:Companies of the United States does not have such a huge number of subcategories that they need to be removed from there.
- The same is true for "Crimes in California by decade" and "Sports by location".
- With the psychoanalysts, there are not enough of them that it's useful to split by country. It also means that if someone looks in the psychoanalysts category, they won't see the American ones right away, which is a kind of bias.
- With Category:Faculty by university or college in Washington, D.C., there's only one subcategory, so what's the point? There's not a "Faculty by university or college in XXX" where XXX is any other state or city, except for California. Hence it just makes the contents take longer to find.
- To have a category for butter means that Butter won't appear in Category:Dairy products. It also seems silly to group together anything that includes butter. Should there be categories for every food that includes sugar, olive oil, lard, or soy sauce?
- With "People from Nouvelle-Aquitaine by settlements", none of the other categories for French regions include that. They just put the subcategories for cities directly in the main category. It doesn't benefit anybody to do it this way, because Category:People from Nouvelle-Aquitaine isn't so full that it's necessary. Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron (talk) 19:36, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Some of those are good reasons to eliminate a category, but it should be done by RFD and not by just emptying them. Please start RFD discussions for them if you think they shouldn't exist. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:51, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, I will do that. Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron (talk) 19:54, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Multistub
changeThank you for fixing those — I'll remember to use {{multistub}}
