Adding places

Hello there. You seem to like to add geographical places, often small villages here. While you are at it, what about adding some of the cities mentioned in Bastide? --Eptalon (talk) 14:59, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I would be more than happy to add them, lemme just finish up that department :) Razorflame 15:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

2 questions about an answer

*1. If they are on the Commons, then you can easily add them to your userpage here. If they were added only to the English Wikipedia, then you won't be able to add them here. Unlike the English Wikipedia, we do not allow image uploads, so please use the commons instead.

So, 1. this means I can not add a picture of an album cover either? 2. Who is "we"? SurferRosa 22:08, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
You can add a picture of the album cover if it exists over on Commons. The other answer is I was speaking about the Simple English Wikipedia as a whole when I said we. Razorflame 22:10, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reason....

Hello,

what I was actually trying to say there, is that rather than using alphabetical order, use something else; like the 2-3 biggest (or most important) cities first. Did you actually read en:Ardèche before you started? - If so, why do we find nothing of that in our simple article here?

France has 100 departements (95 in Metropolian France, 5 overseas); When I started, I did the regions; there are "only" 26 of them; each having about 4 departements.

What about slowing down a little, and perhaps putting on a little more flesh onto the stubs you create? - Compare for example :en:Scouting with scout movement for an example?--Eptalon (talk) 23:45, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

When I started on the communes, I looked for a list of the biggest. And yes, I of course, did read the English Wikipedia page for Ardeche before I made the page. I could not find a list of the biggest communes in Ardeche. I just decided that we should have pages for the communes as we are an encyclopedia, and isn't it an encyclopedia's job to provide good information to the users of the encyclopedia? That is what I try to do when I make pages for this site. I completely understand your points and I agree that some of the pages that I make should have more flesh on them, however, I find it much easier for me to make pages that are short because that is just what I noticed over time. I have created some large pages in the past, like Gravitation and Inductor. Cheers, Razorflame 23:50, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
See for example here for a list grouped by population (all below 10k people, Ardeche) you are looking for "Population provisoire" (estimated population for this year); "Population au recensement 1999" (population on last official count, in 1999); here are the numbers for cities with 10k people or more, for all France. ("Estimation de population"; which is the estimated population, in mid-2005)? --Eptalon (talk) 00:12, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the lists. I will use them to help me make the pages that would be of the most help to our little site. Cheers, Razorflame 00:13, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

RfA

I have now closed your RfA as unsuccessful, with 59% support (53% if you count IuseRosary - it's complicated, see WP:AN). I hope you'll find the comments of other editors constructive, and feel free to reapply later. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 15:38, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for posting this to my talk page. I was so sure that this RfA would pass, but I am actually a little bit glad that it ended this way. I am always happy with the outcomes of an RfA, even if it doesn't pass, because I find it to be a way for me to find out exactly how some of the most active users think about me and what I have done for this Wikipedia. While it is disappointing that my RfA did not pass, I have found most of the oppose votes to be extremely helpful and to help me understand that I need to slow down and take my time on this Wikipedia. That is exactly what I will try to do in the future. I will try to slow down and think before I take action so that the next time, my next RfA won't fail. To tell you the truth, I was also quite surprised with some of the support votes that I received. I was very surprised with your support vote as I was pretty sure that you would have voted in opposition against me, but I am glad to see that you consider me to be a potential administrator. I was also surprised with Isis's support. I was not expecting that and I was quite pleased that she voted in support of me. Yesterday, when my RfA was going with 68.2% support, I did make some mistakes within the RfA. I canvassed Hmwith by sending him and email, in addition to another editor. I am ashamed that I did that and I feel like I shot myself in the foot for doing that. It was just that I was starting to panick and I wasn't sure if the RfA would pass. Fear and panick are very strong emotions that can do strange things to you. Never in my wildest dreams, would I have thought that I would've commited such an atrocity.

I should stop this long rambling post now, so I thank you for your support and help and I will see you in a while when I post my next RfA.

I am going to give it time. I'm probably not going to put up another RfA for another month and a half or so and I will try to work through the stuff that people told me I still need to work on and will work hard on them so that in the future, they won't have cause for concern. Stuff

Hey Razorflame, sorry to see your RFA didn't pass, better luck next time. Also, I noticed in your recent French article run, you started using references. Can you consider using the {{Cite web}} template? It provides a much nicer interface in the References section. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:56, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem about the RfA. However, I am vehemently against using Cite web because of how freaking hard it is to use. I prefer the nice little ref tags to the big monstrosity that is the Cite web template. Cheers, Razorflame 15:57, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, you're not alone, a lot of users hate the cite web template, but all you need to do is fill in the title, accessdate and url and you're done. I've got quite a reputation for fixing regular references into cite webs, so please feel free to ask me to do this for you in the future. Cite webs should be used really because they provide good info, a consistent appearance and don't have a disgustingly long URL! The Rambling Man (talk) 16:13, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the offer. I'll have to take you up on it sometimes in the future. Cheers, Razorflame 16:14, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've added the cite web template to about twenty or so, it's easy now - just copy and paste what I've done into your remaining articles which use the same reference. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:28, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Cheers. Now I have another question: Would you like to help me get the list of asteroids from the English Wikipedia over to here? There is a lot of pages that need creation...and I think it's a little too big to create by myself. Cheers, Razorflame 16:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Never mind! I decided that it would be best to only create the pages for the first 2,000 numbered asteroids. The rest can wait until later. Cheers, Razorflame 18:28, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem! I just went into the category Asteroid stubs in the English Wikipedia, as well as the lists by name, and just started creating pages about asteroids. While I excel at creating short stubs, I do not accel at categorizing pages or defsort of those kinds of things. Thanks for the help and for the *cookie* :) Razorflame 23:41, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You saying that you can't speak Simple English is rubbish. Just by posting this message on my user talk page proves that you indeed do know how to speak Simple English. In fact, it is for people like you that this Wikipedia was created in the first place. Cheers, Razorflame 19:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think that your understanding of the English language is enough to get by on this Wikipedia. I don't think that you should have any problems communicating with anyone on this site. As for an internet communicator, I have a confirmed email address set into my userpage, so if you ever need anything, feel free to send me an e-mail by clicking on the "E-mail this user" link on the left hand sidebar of this page. RE: List of minor planets

I think that creating the lists of minor planets is a good idea, and that we should only have #1-2000 until we get bigger, cause like you said, just to think of how many lists we'll need is mind boggling ;-). I'd be more than happy to clean up the lists.

Aw...

OK, fair enough. My theory was that we could have stub class (esque) articles, followed by a "non-stub" class, and then GA + VGA. However, I thought that if we had it on the 1000 articles every Wikipedia should have, it would help the colloboration people work easier between members. That way, all would be flagged. I was going to keep it simple, and simply for those 1000 articles.

Oh, and you might want to look at this. I thought that, due to this, you did have classes...

If you have IRC, could you join #wikipedia-simple, and we can talk further. Microchip 08Sign! 15:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC) Reply

Do you mind if I request sysop rights for you? Necknoise 14:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am so sorry to hear that. I was not present for few days, but now I'm back! And there's something I want to advice you you if possible. Why don't you wait untill 2 months and more, then you should start to nominate your self? If you see you have all criteria which gave you right to ask for adminship, why all this things occured for five times in your nomination (Rfa). Maybe you use to correct an article and not create an article! You realy need to think about before to start your Rfa, cause there's huge possibility for you if your always correct an article and not to start new artcle. A good thing than all is to create new article, other wise you will fail every time. Kindly your needed to consider what I told you, then you'll see the reaction. Hello Razorflame, I just proposed this for a "Good" article. Can you help it become better and then vote on it with me when it's time. Thanks a million, AmericanEagle 02:33, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

While I appreciate your trying to help me see that you are wanting more insights as to how to make your article better, the way you went about doing it was not a good idea. In the future, if you notice that I haven't responded to a message of yours that you've left on my talk page, instead of posting a second message about the same topic, it would be better for you to wait until I get back and respond to the first message instead of posting up a second message about the same topic. If you were worried that I wasn't going to respond to your message on my talk page, there is no reason for you to worry about that. I would have responded to your message in due time; I wasn't able to get on the computer at all over the weekend, so therefore, I couldn't respond to your message. Changes such as this are key to the simple.subproject, right? I'll try and learn the specifics of this and appreciate the examples. Cheers, User:Jack Merridew a.k.a. David 15:11, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

They aren't that key. The easiest way to simplify an article is to think of a simpler way of saying the words that you are used to saying in everyday life.

For example, instead of saying something like impressive, you could say good or great. You could say started instead of founded. You could say found instead of discovered. There are many other such examples, but I am too lazy to share them all with you. These are just some of the many ways that you can simplify an article. User:Razorflame/CU problem

I saw on your userpage User:Razorflame/CU appears as a completely white box when you point to another userbox. Did you want me to fix the problem for you?--Lights Deleted? 23:04, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I originally gave you a barnstar that looked like this, but it messed up your talkpage. Sorry :(--Lights Deleted? 23:37, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't matter. I can't fathom how putting a barnstar on my user talk page could've messed it up anyways. Cheers, Razorflame 23:51, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Talk page messages

Hi there! In order to avoid edit conflicts on user's talk pages, please can you only leave messages about actions you directly performed? For example, I blocked 92.3.162.189, and I was leaving a "Blocked" message on the user's talk page, but you beat me to it. Thanks. Billz (Talk) 14:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Most of the other administrators don't mind if I put it on there as they seem to forget, but for you, I won't do it for anybody that you block in the future. Cheers, Razorflame 14:10, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't mind if people wait a few minutes, since I often forget, but you seemed to add the "Blocked" message at the same time as I blocked him. Thanks. Billz (Talk) 14:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
All right. I'll make sure to add any warnings that you might forget. My apologies for adding the blocked template as soon as you blocked him. I'll make sure to add the blocked template only if you forget in the future. Thanks, Razorflame 14:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

My RFA

Dear Razorflame/Archive 14, Thank you for your vote in my recent RFA even though it was oppose. I am asking everyone who voted to set goals for me before my next one. I will be putting the goals on a page and putting {{done}} next to them when I complete that goal. Do you have any goals for me? Thank you! SwirlBoy39 21:55, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I know...

Why do you think I did "Walker (tool)"? I didn't, however, know to take it straight from en. Thanks, AmericanEagle 03:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The edit is question is that of creating Walker as a redirect to Walker (tool). Instead of doing this, it would have been better to make it a disambiguation, like I did. You'll learn these things in time.  :) Cheers, Razorflame 03:36, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I Understand. I gave you a review on the thing. Dude (or dudet), you're like haunting my watchlist. Okay, I have like eighty pages in my watchlist (users, articles, categories, etc.), and you have like made the last fifteen (or so) changes to them. But that is good because some of them never get changed. Cheers -- AmericanEagle 04:15, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Not haunting your watchlist. More like watching Special:NewPages and checking up on articles that are created so that they conform to the Manual of Style. Cheers, Razorflame 04:16, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Qd of Kolig Kaj

I reverted your QD of Kolig kaj. While the search function of the wikimwedia software will handle redirecting from Kolig kaj to Kolig Kaj, there are two main issues which the redirect bypasses:

  1. page links linking to Kolig kaj (although there are none currently) will get to the correct article. While a very common misspelling, because it does not exist currently, this could be acceptable for deletion, but for the most case it isn't worth bothering with once it is created. It should not be created, but once it has been created there no need to delete. This is also not the case here, so point #2.
  2. The software does not recognise different but similar characters - Kolig Kaj is not the same as Kølig Kaj, o isn't recognized as ø. If anything this should be brought up as an issue with "English names" and not using non-english letters (ie. only use the base 26 characters, not the accented ones) in article naming. This would still result in a redirect, but in the reverse direction (Kølig Kaj redirecting to Kolig Kaj).

-- Creol(talk) 05:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

All right. I understand why you've reverted my QD of that redirect. For the most part, I will avoid dealing with redirects in the future. Thanks for letting me know the rationale behind your reversion of my QD. For the most part, I actually spent quite a bit of time researching the topic before I QD'ed it (about 5 minutes worth). I only put a QD tag on it once I was certain that the MediaWiki software automatically redirects. Cheers, Razorflame 16:31, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Chairperson section removal

I removed the Religion section on Chairperson, not for vandalism, but for the fact that the religion section is totally irrelevant. On the page is written: "In Christianity, a chairperson is the person who is in charge of the chairs of people in the Society of Friends." I removed this section because:

It is the same thing as writing the following on the page about "Volunteer" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volunteer: "In Scientology, a volunteer is a person who helps gathering new members for the Church of Scientology."

It's exactly the same, so I think removing it is the only right thing to do, and it's not at all vandalism. So now you know why I removed it ;-)

You can always try to convince me otherwise ofcourse.

Absolutely. I think that you are right in this case. Cheers, Razorflame 17:31, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Do i have to edit it again or is that your job? Sorry I'm not really experienced with this.

It isn't my job. If you believe that you were right the first time, feel free to do it a second time. Cheers, Razorflame 19:59, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

catredirect

I really don't see the point of leaving empty categories lying around...is there a reason why deletion is not preferred? Cassandra (talk) 19:16, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I understand your concern, but that is just the way that I have both seen it done and have been doing it since February of this year. I believe the reason is so that, just in case there are still some articles lying around in the old category, if a person clicks on that category from the page, then it would redirect them to the correct category instead of the old category. Cheers, Razorflame 19:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Billy Graham

I have now spent hours simplifying and cleaning it up, what else is there to do? If you could can you go through and {{fact}} template so I can see if anything still needs to be referenced. And if you think that it is simple enough, then please remove the tag. I think that it has enough pics, very long, and I think, close to a good article. Cheers Razorflame -- AmericanEagle 20:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have gone through the article and made quick copyediting of certain parts; I have also placed fact templates on some of the more controversial points that you made. Although I only got a little taste of the article, I would recommend asking Cethegus or Lights to help with the copyediting and/or simplification of the article. There are still some sentences that are too long, and I also think that you need to variate the placement of the pictures in the article so that some are on the right side and some are on the left side.

This article has come a long way from when you first put it up, and I am certain that if you finish what I have explained to you in the first paragraph, this article will most certainly make it to GA status, and possibly even VGA status. Cheers, Razorflame 21:10, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm working on it right now. Why did I every create the article, hours wasted. Just kidding. I got what I asked for from you. Thanks -- AmericanEagle 21:21, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

My RFA

Why did you oppose me when on IRC you said you would support once I meet CFA? SwirlBoy39 22:47, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

? SwirlBoy39 23:11, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Working on a response. Please wait for my answer. Cheers, Razorflame 23:12, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm confused... SwirlBoy39 23:20, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
The reason why I cannot support you at this time, even if I said that I would when you meet the CFA requirements, is because of the fact that I don't think you do meet the CFA requirements. According to this page, you only have 659 edits total, with more than half of your edits in the User talk and user namespaces. While I believe that you have the potential to become an administrator, you just have to wait and continue to be active on this site. I am disappointed to see that you haven't given my advice to you the last time any thought since your last RfA. The problem is multi-faceted:
The first problem is even after I told you to be more active, the fact of the matter is, I haven't seen your name in the recent changes for a while until today. If you want to be an administrator, you need to be more active than you currently are. Another point that ties into this reason is because of the fact that if you aren't as active, you tend to lose track of some of the major issues surrounding this Wikipedia. An administrator has to be able to keep track of the current and on-going issues that surround this Wikipedia. I just don't see that from you.
The second problem is the fact that you have more userspace edits than you do mainspace edits. While I'm not asking you to edit as much as I do, I am asking if you would be willing to edit the mainspace more. Administrators need some experience with editing articles on this site, and while I am not asking you to edit as much as me, I don't think it is too hard for you to increase the number of mainspace edits you do. I think if you were to get your number of mainspace edits to be more than your userspace edits, I would be fine with you being an administrator, once you become a little more active.
The third problem is in the fact that you don't have many deleted edits. 76 deleted edits for 3ish months of editing on this site isn't very much. This means that you aren't putting pages that need deletion up for deletion using the {{qd}} template, which means that you would not have a need for the deletion tool. I know that I am being a bit blunt with you here, but the truth of the matter is is that I am trying to give you constructive critisism. The simple solution to this problem is to simply QD more articles that need deletion.
If you were to fix these three problems, I wouldn't have an issue with you becoming an administrator. I know you have the potential to do it, I just don't know how long it will be until you finish it. I hope this helps you explain my reasoning behind my oppose a little better. Cheers, Razorflame 23:24, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please make a list of what I should do before my RFA here so I may put {{done}} when I have reached the goals. SwirlBoy39 00:54, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've made the list now. Cheers, Razorflame 14:54, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please don't feed the trolls (PDFTT)

I removed the section of your userstats page that highlighted the vandal who made the largest contribution. There is no reason to give credit to a vandal for their actions as this only strokes their ego more and gives them reason to continue. Trolls/vandals like these and others should be ignored, reverted and forgotten.. they should not be talked about and immortalized/given fame. -- Creol(talk) 08:54, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure thing. I am completely fine with you doing this. Please make sure that you did it correctly, though (not like I have to worry!). Cheers, Razorflame 14:51, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
