Wikipedia:Feminism and Folklore/2023

Feminism and Folklore is an international writing contest. We have it at Wikipedia every year in February or March. Writers write about folk cultures and women in folklore from all over the world. This project goes with the photography contest called Wiki Loves Folklore (WLF) that happens on Wikimedia Commons.

For this, competition, write and improve articles about human cultural diversity here on the Simple English Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects. This year, we write about folk culture from all over the world, with a particular attention to closing the gender gap with our partners from across the world.

The Feminism and Folklore contest has happened since 2019. The main page is on Meta. This is so many wikis in many languages can work together, all for the global wikilove movement.

The articles written for the contest must match the main idea. Most contestants will be able to find several good subjects to write about. These could be cultural festivals, dances, food and cooking, clothing or daily life routine emphasizing folk culture of that area. You are free to choose an article from the list we wrote or pick up a topic of your own so long as it is close to the main theme and focusing on closing the gender gap. "Intangible cultural heritage" means different things to different people. This helps people from different cultures talk to each other and respect each other. It also teaches the reader about cultural diversity.

Theme

This year Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women biographies and gender-focused topics for the project in league with Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus with folk culture theme on Wikipedia.

Folklore – around the world, including, but not limited to folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, fairy tales, folk plays, folk arts, folk religion, mythology, etc.

Women in folklore – includes but is not limited to, women and queer personalities in folklore, folk culture (folk artists, folk dancers, folk singers, folk musicians, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales and more).

Rules

Each article must meet the criteria given on the main page:

• The expanded or new article should have a minimum 3000 bytes or 300 words.
• The article should not be poorly machine translated—writers may use tools to translate pages but they must be good translations.
• The article should be expanded or created between 1 February and 31 March.
• The article should about feminism, folklore, or both.*
• The article must not be Orphan—it must have links to it from other articles.
• There should be no copyright violations or notability issues, and the article should have references the way the Simple English Wikipedia requires.</translate>
• The article must be written in Simple English, not regular English.
• It is preferred for the local coordinator to set up the Wikipedia campaign on Fountain tool. You may set the project on the dashboard as well.
• The results with the list of articles need to be listed on the results page of the mediawiki project if the local coordinator is not setting up the fountain tool.
• In case of any assistance for setting up the fountain tool, please contact <tvar name="addr">supportwikilovesfolklore.org</tvar>.
• Jury members may not judge their own entries.

*"Folklore" does not mean folk stories in this contest (rather, not only folklore). It means more like "folk culture."

• 1st prize: 300 USD
• 2nd prize: 200 USD
• 3rd prize: 100 USD
• Consolation top 10 winners: 50 USD each
• There will also be local prizes for most created articles on each local Wiki project. More information on the project page
