AWB access for SithJarJar666 (yes, again)

I would like to request being temporarily added to the CheckPage so I can use JWB to convert “see also” into “related pages”, and to convert “external links” into “other websites”. I realize that this may be unnecessary, but I feel that I have learned a lot since my last request, and hope that I am trustworthy enough for this tool. There are only about 150 pages that would need fixed, so I will not need flood flag. I would do it manually, but I find that very tedious. I would also run the Regex Typo fix on those pages, so I can perform multiple fixes at once. (I will not use it on any other pages, though.) I will report back here when I am done for the removal of the right. Regards, --sithjarjar666 (my contribs | talk to me | see my enwiki profile) 23:06, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for DaedanBot

AWB bot account. — Gomdoli (talk) 01:40, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • If the intention is to run AWB from a bot account, then bot approval at WT:BOTS is required first. Alternatively, since you mentioned that you want this to be an ad-hoc task, you can also use AWB from your own account. Given the relatively low frequency of such a task, the latter might be better. Chenzw  Talk  02:47, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I re-requested bot approval. And I want to use another account when I use AWB. — Gomdoli (talk) 02:59, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for Synoman Barris

Hello, I am requesting access to AWB since I would like to perform a lot of maintenance work on the backlogged category Category:Unreferenced BLPs by adding the reflist template and the section “References” since I plan on clearing that category. I am not sure how long that will take. Best regards --Synoman Barris (talk) 12:28, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

These articles are requiring actual references, not just the section and template. This is best done by normal editing, in my opinion. Operator873talkconnect 12:40, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Operator873: Yeah, I am planning to add references and I normally use visual editor interface. AWB will help me with this since after adding the reflist template to the article it will be easier adding sources via VE without having to fix that article styling once again. Cheers --Synoman Barris (talk) 13:03, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Operator873: fix ping --Synoman Barris (talk) 13:04, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Personally I would rather you get used to the differences here first. Much of how we do things is very different from en.wiki. One of the differences is how we handle AWB from en.wiki. Here we generally only give it out when there is a very specific job and then we remove it when that specific job is done. Which is different from en where they just give it for anything and then don't remove it unless you misuse it. -Djsasso (talk) 13:07, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I wouldn't feel comfortable giving AWB access to a user who recently created a category with "film" in the name. They need more time to get used to the differences here. --IWI (talk) 13:12, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am withdrawing my request. To be sincere I am being treated like someone disruptive here, everything I have done here has been done in good faith. I better stick to what am good at and that is en.wiki therefore I am retiring from this Wiki. Best --Synoman Barris (talk) 13:24, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
You aren't being treated as being disruptive, you are being shown the differences of how things are done here. They are different and its better to catch these things before they go to far so that it becomes a lot of work for people to undo. Which in the case of AWB can end up being a lot of work because of how rapidly it can do things. Very often editors come over from en.wiki and make a big mess/disruption so we like to point out the differences early on to prevent people from having to clean up the mess later. It is up to you to choose if you take that advice to heart of if you just leave. We would all prefer you stay but that is up to you. -Djsasso (talk) 13:29, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for Saroj Uprety

Hello, I'd like to request AWB access for categorization.

--Saroj Uprety (talk) 16:19, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Saroj Uprety: Can you be more specific about what you want to do? --Auntof6 (talk) 00:44, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6 I want to add that number of articles to the category. Saroj Uprety (talk) 02:09, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Saroj Uprety: How would AWB help you do that? Where are the articles now? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:10, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6 With AWB I can easily add articles to the mentioned category. I have a list of articles on Notepad. Saroj Uprety (talk) 02:18, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Here is the list. [1] @Auntof6: --Saroj Uprety (talk) 13:47, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Discussion is moot at this point as all the pages are added. -Djsasso (talk) 14:16, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for PotsdamLamb

I am looking to use this to find empty headings throughout articles to remove them as well as common misspellings made in simple articles. I am also going to use it for extra spaces put into sentences (i.e. This is the end . {or double spaces between words}). Basically to try to mass clean articles but only after testing on a few random pages and not do hundreds at a time. PotsdamLamb (talk) 01:30, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I also want to fix all the CS1 errors that use depreciated items and there are a ton of them that need to be changed. (Over 52k articles)PotsdamLamb (talk) 21:32, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Per @Auntof6: I am adding the following “Just so you know I was approved to use it on EN. So I am familiar with it and how it works.” This is from the discussion on my talk page. PotsdamLamb (talk) 06:13, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
The first comment in this section indicates you are unaware of the things you are allowed to use AWB for as such I would not be inclined to give access to it. -Djsasso (talk) 11:46, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Djsasso:I crossed it out because I am using WPCleaner for those issues. Oh and thanks for taking my plan and doing it on your own, as well as not answering questions posed to you in which you had nothing but negative things to say about me. If you say "he knows nothing about how this works" I would expect an admin to be helpful and not just ignore all the requests of what it is I did wrong or how almost all of my edits had been reverted, which in fact there are few. I want to see proof of your accusations or go strike them all out please. PotsdamLamb (talk) 19:06, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I did not take your plan, I have been doing these fixes for quite awhile now before you even mentioned it, I began when I made the changes that required the fix which was a few weeks ago. I stopped for the last little bit because I was not online. When I came back I started up my script and started fixing them again (if you notice I created the category a few weeks ago myself as part of fixing them). I also never said almost all of your edits had been reverted, I said they frequently had to be fixed. I wouldn't be surprised if I was well over 100 fixes on your edits. -Djsasso (talk) 19:11, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Djsasso: So again, please provide examples of the items that you had to fix and what was wrong them? You were asked 18 days ago and have yet to provide the proof.
Total Edits: 4490
Edits Deleted: 381
Live edits: 4109 That is a 91.5 percent rate. PotsdamLamb (talk) 20:36, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm just going to comment that those are edits of yours that have been deleted not reverted (so for example if you requested a page for deletion and the page got deleted, the edits would go from live to deleted). I'm assuming, though, that the number of edits of yours that have been reverted or fixed are probably less than the amount of your deleted edits. --Ferien (talk) 20:46, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

WITHDRAW This is now mute moot since Djsasso has a script that already does this. This can be closed and archived. PotsdamLamb (talk) 21:24, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for EpicPupper

Hi there, I'd love to receive AWB perms on simplewiki. I already have perms on enwiki, and I plan to mainly use AWB on this wiki to replace some depreciated HTML4 elements, such as strike and center. Here is an example of a manual replacement I've done here. I mainly do my replacements on enwiki, but I'd like to help out here as well. Thanks, EpicPupper (talk) 20:04, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

We don't give out AWB here like they do on en.wiki generally we only give it out for very specific tasks that will only last a given amount of time, ideally to someone who has some history editing here. -Djsasso (talk) 19:10, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Was @EpicPupper's request not specific enough for you? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 21:51, 23 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, they said mainly which implies it would be used for things other than what they listed. And typically a list of articles is often helpful. We don't just grant it to do whatever, like en.wiki does. We grant it for a specific job and then remove it when the task is finished. -Djsasso (talk) 12:37, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for Rubbish computer

I'd like to use AWB to fix typos, such as replacing "and and" with "and". I'm familiar with doing this on enwiki, and I know not to break urls or change quotes, not to make controversial changes, etc. I will be as careful before each change as I am on enwiki. Rubbish computer Ping me or leave a message on my User talk 19:06, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

We don't allow AWB to be used for solely typo fixing. -Djsasso (talk) 19:07, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

AWB access for GoingBatty/BattyBot

While I'm waiting for a response on to my request above, I'm making this request for access to use AWB to resolve CS1 errors in the following categories:

After running some manually, I would like to follow the instructions at WP:Bots to get approval for my bot, BattyBot. I run BattyBot to fix errors in these categories on the English Wikipedia - see en:User:BattyBot for details. Thank you for your consideration. GoingBatty (talk) 14:46, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ok Put your request up over at WP:Bots and do 100 trial edits. Go ahead and point to this discussion in your request to show I approved a trial so you don't have to wait on me to say so over there. Your bot on en is pretty long running so it shouldn't be an issue. -Djsasso (talk) 20:34, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Nevermind I already see you put a request there. -Djsasso (talk) 20:35, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Requesting access

Hello there. I would like to have access to AWB, in order to create several articles on suppressed Chilean communes. I know how to use the program and am familiar with the CSV plug in. These articles are basically the same as commune of Auquinco and commune of Llico, identical in their own way to the Spanish language articles. If approved, I plan to do this sometime in the following two weeks. --Bedivere (talk) 21:35, 14 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello there, thank you for your request. There has been a consensus in the past to not use semi-automated or automated tools to create articles, like AWB. That being said, I do not use AWB often and therefore, I don't think it would be reasonable for me to accept or decline a request; just be aware I don't think this is going to be accepted. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 21:55, 14 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well, it would make things considerably easier, creating articles which otherwise I wouldn't bother adding manually :P --Bedivere (talk) 23:30, 14 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The problem we have had in the past with people doing that is that it creates large amounts of tiny single sentence stubs etc. Which then far outweigh normal articles on the wiki. At one point if you hit random page on the side you were guaranteed to hit one. We had to delete thousands of articles to clean up the mess. So not really looking to go down that route again. -Djsasso (talk) 20:37, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I can understand that concern. However, the number of communes is kind of small (some 200, perhaps; maybe less) and it would not clutter, for sure, the "random page" possibilities :P Bedivere (talk) 00:12, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

JSON

Was this page moved to JSON-styled format? And now we have to change it again - what is the technical problem of this page? The checkpage is in JSON or depending on config? Thingofme (talk) 01:31, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
