Talk:Police
unsimple tagging
changeThere are still terms that need to be simplified. For example, investigate, patrol, restrain, etc. zephyr2k 20:00, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've tried to edit out the article to remove some of the more complicated words and phrases; some, such as investigate and patrol, are a bit difficult to simply further so I've attempted to clearly explain what they mean in the context of policing. Fry999 (talk) 21:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I've also removed the bit about equipment because I think it would be better placed on the police officer article itself. Fry999 (talk) 21:12, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- I think that the information on the equipment and other sections added quite a bit to the article. Please readd what you want to about different countries but don't remove good stuff. Simplify without removing meaning. Thanks fr33kman talk 22:31, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- I've fixed it up and readded the information you put in but kept the useful information that was already there. I've simplified the wording of the old info. Cheers fr33kman talk 22:43, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
History
changeMaybe it was a mistake on my part to add a history section. This article will get out of control fast in terms of length. I think it should be spun off into a separate article about history of police. --108.192.73.8 (talk) 05:55, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
- The article is definitely not close to being too long. Many of the articles here are short stubs, but they certainly don't have to be. Only the language has to be simple, not the length. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:39, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Proposed merge
changeI see no problem with merging information from Police officer into this article. However, nothing in Police officer is cited. So anything moved should be cited at the same time. This article also needs more source citations. Rus793 (talk) 17:35, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Police in France
changeIt's not sufficient to say "there are two types of police, one rural and one in cities". French wikipedia Police francaise will show what I mean.
"En France, il existe trois types de police :
- civile et nationale : police nationale ;
- civiles et territoriales : police municipale ; police rurale (gardes champêtres)
- militaire et nationale : gendarmerie nationale."
There's a whole string of more detailed articles. Our present text refers only to the garde champêtre (in rural areas) and the police municipale (in towns, and reporting to the mayor of each commune). Whereas the police in the UK are territorial, and carry out all normal functions, police in France are differentiated by levels and types. It's a much more complicated structure.
