Article deleted

I deleted the article you created on Jack Schaap. The article failed to explain why this person was notable. Being the leader of a church does not necessarily make a person notable. The person does not have a page on wikipedia. If you created a page on the church and had a section on the guy that would acceptable. -  EchoBravo  contribs  18:15, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You do not need to do this yet as a decision has not been made. If and when a decision is made, you would then be asked to change your name. It is a relatively harmless event, I just went through a name change not to long ago. Again, you don't need to request a name change yet. -  EchoBravo  contribs  20:21, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Christianity

Thank you for joining WikiProject Christianity! I was wondering if anyone would even see the message I put on the English Wikipedia and I'm glad you did. About editing articles

Hello, and welcome to our project; please be sure to read the material above (about editing articles); In general our External links section is called Other websites; We use the References or Notes section for footnotes in the text (produced with the ref tags) or for books or published articles. Also pleaste try to add a category (or {{uncat}} if you don't know, and an interwiki link, if possible. Thanks. --Eptalon (talk) 10:06, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please try to use the edit summary feature so that you can tell us exactly what it is you are changing on the page. If you have trouble doing that, you can always go into the my settings tab and put on the thing that prompts you when entering a blank edit summary. Cheers, Razorflame 20:06, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Article

I thought Book of Ruth looked good. Many articles around here are lacking when it comes to pictures, so they really added a lot to the article. I also found it interesting because I just read Ruth a few nights ago so it was fresh in my mind. Great job creating the articles. You've definably got me beat. I don't spend a lot of time on Wikipedia so I'm glad someone is working on the Christianity related stuff! --Andrew from NC (talk) 13:13, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

E-mail

I noticed that you don't have an email address confirmed for your account yet. It is a good idea to get an email account confirmed to your account because it enables editors on here to send you messages about private issues that they don't want to ask you on the Simple English Wikipedia to ask them to you. Do you think you could confirm an email address to your name? It is pretty easy to do so. If you don't have an email address there are several sites that offer free email addresses to users, such as http://www.yahoo.com and http://google.com. If you need help creating an email account on either of these two sites, feel free to ask me to help you as I have created email accounts on both of these services myself, so I would easily be able to help you do so if you so choose. Please note that I am not demanding you to set an email to your account, but that it would be extremely helpful for you and for other editors who want to get into contact with you. Cheers, Razorflame 20:12, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome, Jay!

I notice that you picked up a few errors on the Jesus page. There were one or two things that you changed which were not errors.

  • "it's". The possessive form of "it" is "its". It is like "his", "her", "their", "your". It doesn't need an apostrophe. The word "it's" means "it is".

Another thing to remember

  • Many articles here use British Spelling. The Wiki rule is that you don't change any article that is consistent in its spelling. This is very easy in most cases. All articles that pertain to the US use American spelling while articles that pertain to the UK use British spelling. So do Commonwealth articles, and many European articles.
If the topic is not specific to a region, like Jesus, check it out before you change it. If the spelling is consistently English throughout the article, don't change it. If it appears to be inconsistent, and has words spelt both ways, go with the majority.

Main differences

  1. English: colour, labour, favour etc.
  2. English: travel, travelling, travelled etc. This rule of doubling the consonant is applied in most verbs, except where the vowel is modified by an "e". eg "writing"
  3. English: s, not z, in "ise/ize" and "isation/ization" words.
  4. ...There is another significant something.... it has slipped my mind!

Enjoy yourself! There is a lot of work to do here!

God bless!

Userspace edit

I tweaked the settings on one of your user subpages to correct the column spanning in the first section to display properly. I also removed links from the navbox templates as those links are really only useful when the template is being included into other pages since they make it easier to access the remote page for editing or discussion. Revert if not wanted. -- Creol(talk) 05:06, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Billy Graham

The quick deletion tag that was on Billy Graham was probably a typo made by you when you meant to use {{BD}}. I fixed it. Cheers and have a nice day,-- Lights  talk  18:18, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome.-- Lights  talk  18:23, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
The Billy Graham article is still too complex. If you want, you can change the tag to a {{complex}} one instead. Microchip 08Sign! 18:44, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Enwp based

The {{Enwp based}} template is only used to help deal with potential copyright issues between English Wp and Simple. It's use has no impact on (nor statement about) the quality of the article itself. It only references the base version of their article used for our article and denotes the existence of its history there to conform within potential GFDL licencing issues. Were a {{encopypaste}} template used, that would indicate issues with the quality of the article itself that needs work on to prevent deletion (such as the simplification needed here) but the Enwp based template is just for information purposes. -- Creol(talk) 09:16, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, next time, please report vandalism to the appropriate page. It is usually safe to do so if the user has been warned (and only vandalises, very clearly); or that we reached the 3 reverts. First Baptist Church of Hammond

Hello there, at the moment, we do not yet have Baptist(Baptism) as a denomination category under Protestantism; given it is among the bigger movements in Protestantism (mainly the New World), it should not be too hard to come up with two more Baptist churches? - I will create the cat Baptism; in the hope that you can come up with (at least stubs) for two or more baptist churches; please note that the Category:Churches here is used for the building only, What you are probably looking for is Category:Christian denominations or a subcat thereof. --Eptalon (talk) 21:56, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message you left on my talk page. Ya, I'm probably going to start working here again, but the chances of me leaving certain pages on the main wiki like they want me too is pretty low. My personality is just to stubborn. I guess that's why some editors have given up, while I've been on those pages before and after them. Thanks for the cheering up! Re Billy Graham

Please don't post the same message on everyone's talk page. If you want more people to see it, posting a note on Simple Talk is ok. Thanks. --Werdan7T @ 04:38, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have started looking through the article; in general, it looks like a promising candidate. There are however a few shortcomings I see.
  • Some of the statements (Like his preaching to more people than anyone ever before) are very problematic; these either need a (sound) reference, or they should be removed.
  • His writing in his autobiography:"..." calls for a reference to this autobiography.
You should therefore go over the article again, remove (or rewrite) such statements, and find more references (to the things that are easy to document, or hard to believe). Look at Pope John Paul II as inspiration; it is a Very Good Article. --Eptalon (talk) 13:36, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

In case you were wondering, here is what I think you need to work on (this would've been how I would have voted if you hadn't withdrawn your request): This article is not up to good article status. This article would need to be completely copyedited because the sentence structure and fluidity is not simple enough for this site. There are too many long sentences and too many complex words that would need to be fixed in order for this to become a good article. You would need to completely copyedit this article by reducing sentence size (ie. restructure the sentences to make them shorter and therefore more appropriate for this site). As per Microchip08, there are too many unsourced statements in this article and overall, I think some more pictures would be nice. Pretty much all you have to do to make this article better for this rank is to shorten the sentences to make them better suited for this site. Also, as per Creol, not all of the most important links are linked and this would need to be fixed in order for this to gain my support. I hope this helps you better understand what you need to work on in order to make this a good article. Cheers, Razorflame 13:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Billy Graham

Sorry I didn't vote for the Billy Graham article. I don't log onto Wikipedia very much anymore so I didn't get your message until it was too late. If I am around next time there is a vote and it is brought to my attention I will vote. It looks like you have done a good job simplifying the article. It has more information than most articles on Simple, so that is good. I think it will make it as a featured article with a little elbow grease. --Andrew from NC (talk) 01:18, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Charles Spurgeon

Hello there; fixed a few things, corrected the citations, commented out one dead link (the second to last), added reference to book. What I meant with "no space before citations", is that simply you look that you do not have whitespace (blanks) between the last character (or punctuation), and the start of the ref tag. --Eptalon (talk) 23:37, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Gently!

I noticed that you left a message on the page of an unnamed editor who had edited the article of Queen Elizabeth and added the Falkland Islands. Your message discouraged the person from "experimenting". I want to point out that the editor was adding information, not experimenting. The info they added was not strictly correct, but was certainly a well-intentioned misunderstanding. (The Falkland Islands are not an independent country.)

I can't remove the message that you put on the editor's talk page, but you could. Amandajm (talk) 15:01, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bots don't have to be flagged to run, but they should get a bot flag after its been running fine for a bit. I'm not experienced with bots, so I don't know how to get it to work. Walker

For article titles like this, I would suggest you go to the English Wikipedia and do a search on the name of the article that sounds disambiguous. That way, instead of creating a redirect like you did for Walker, you could instead create a disambiguation page that lists lots of possible article titles for that topic. Do you think you could do this in the future? Thanks, Razorflame 03:28, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

While I am sure that you are very pleasantly surprised by this nomination, I would like to remind you to read the Wikipedia:Criteria for Administratorship page carefully. While I believe that you have been a very helpful and beneficial person to this site, I do not think that you are quite ready to become an administrator on this Wikipedia yet. However, if you keep up what you have been doing, I will definitely consider to nominate you in a few months. Do not fall into the same trap that I did. Here is some advice for you: I would suggest you wait until either an administrator or another experienced user nominates you. I have been getting coached in becoming an administrator over on the English Wikipedia, and believe me, just by being coached over there has made me look at administratorship in a whole new light. I definitely believe that you will be a good candidate in the long run, but currently, I think it is just too early. I hope that this message helps you make the best decision about this request to be nominated. Cheers, Razorflame 23:42, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dear American Eagle

Thankyou very much for your welcome and kind words! May I begin by saying that I am very impressed by your list of contributions, particularly those pertaining to Christianity and theology!

My own interests in theology are wide ranging, although from next year I will be starting to develop more focus and specialisation. I am largely interested in Christian systematic theology. I would like to create some articles around basic concepts in Christian thought, such as perfections of God, various Christologies, and so on. I'd also like to work on the various books of the bible - I have access to certain academic resources which could be useful, breakdowns of contents, etc. At some stage in the next week, I am planning to experiment with expressing complex concerns of Systematics in simple English. Would it be acceptable for me to drop you a link to a test article I may cobble together to see how this will go and ask for your thoughts?

Looking forward to working in this wiki alongside you. Scanna (talk) 18:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh! I almost forgot! I will probably make a page about Alister McGrath at some point, as I will be using his book to help me write on theology. Scanna (talk) 18:21, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the warmer atmosphere here is very nice. I have already tried to convert a couple of articles to more simple English. I am getting better at it all the time...although I would find it tricky without my trusty thesaurus! I'll keep the verbosity to talk pages. I would be very happy to have your help - it is unlikely that I will ever write anything with bad language, let alone ask you to look it over! I saw that there were lots of absent books, and that some were stubs...I hope to help with that. I may consider joining Wikiproject Christianity when I have become a little more established. I do not want to join and then do no wok as I have in wikiprojects in the past. And I'm not half as intelligent as people think I am. Scanna (talk) 18:29, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

American

When linking the term American, unless you are talking about someone from the Americas, it is best to link it to the United States article ([[United States|American]]). This removes the possible ambiguity of which definition of American you are using since the actual article American refers to both "from the United States" and "from the Americas". While the second is far less common, it is best to be safe and link to the most correct article which in this case would be the US article. -- Creol(talk) 04:56, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
