Hi I am trying to start a Wiki page for refernece. You deleted what I started because of advertising? It's a reference page like all the other reference page for recording artist. What was added was not intended to be live yet until all information was added. Please advise how I can create this page?

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djchillwil (talkcontribs)

Hello Djchillwil. The article you submitted looked pretty much like a copy and paste and due to the fact that there were no sources on it, but some hyperlink to the English Wikipedia made it looking like an advertisement. If you want, I can restore the article to your namespace, for example to User:Djchillwil/sandbox, where you can work on it and when you think it is ready, I can take a look and then move it into main name space. -Barras talk 21:58, 1 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes please restore it was not intended to be posted until I completed. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djchillwil (talkcontribs)

Done, see link above. -Barras talk 22:35, 1 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

talk page headers etc

We have a sort of consensus not to put talk page headers on virgin talk pages, but to place them after an improper edit on the page. I don't remember any discussion of the blp header, though we also don't generally put that up until someone has caused us to do it. I have few views myself on these things but, in principle, we should not cover pages with flags. The more often we flag, the less anyone takes notice. Actually, we do carry out the blp guidelines as vigorously as we can.

Another (unrelated) issue is the huge rate of vandalism we get during schooltime. It is nothing unusual to find someone has put up a huge number of destructive changes in two or three minutes. I think the advent of the visual editor has greatly increased the number of these multi-vandalisms. Semi-protection should be used more! Cheers, Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:58, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please note, that I did not create those talk pages myself. I would rather delete those pages instead of putting the {{talkpage}} template on them. However, some new user added Template:Talk Page to them and created the template for it. I simply feared that deleting the related talk pages would just result in them being recreated. So I decided to "fix" those pages instead of deleting them. Removing everything is kind of like deleting the page just in a less clean way which I don't like. Removing the template at all when it is already there is pretty much useless, imo. -Barras talk 12:05, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

BarrasBot archives

Thanks for getting the talk page archiving working again. I have a question. Is it possible to set a bit or something so that BarrasBot's changes don't show up in watchlists? It seems to me that MiszaBot's archiving didn't appear there. Of course, if you use BarrasBot for other things, you might not want all of them suppressed. Just a thought. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:42, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I will look if I can adjust the parameter settings somehow the next days. -Barras talk 22:14, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: I just had a look at the running parameters for the bot and I couldn't spot something so it won't show up on your watchlist. However, I remember that actually all bot edits are shown on the watchlist, back the time we had interwiki bots and the like. I'm also not totally sure whether I saw MiszaBot's edits on my watchlist or not. I only know that it ran at a different time, so mostly when I then looked at my watchlist, someone else had already edited again. I could however also be possible that Misza has changed the bot code or something which I won't do as my programming knowledge is not that good to play with the code. Not sure, but since @Djsasso: also run such a bot, maybe he knows more. The only thing I can do is to have it running at a different time. I set it to the current time, because I'm usually around to keep an eye on it and to stop it if needed. However, since it seems to be doing well, I can also let it run at night. -Barras talk 16:30, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I do believe Misza showed up in watchlists, but it didn't trigger a new message notification. I am pretty sure that is how mine works, and mine is the standard pywikipedia code which was misza's code originally. If Barras wants to hold off archiving for a couple days I can verify that but I am pretty sure that is the case. -DJSasso (talk) 16:52, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'd also say that bot edits generally show up on the watchlist and I also doubt that one can modify the bot to not show up on ones watchlist. However, I'm not actually sure sure about the notifications. I just checked the preferences, but as for notifications there is at least no "Don't trigger a notification mail when a bot edits my talk page" box. However, as for the watchlist itself, you can check the box at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-watchlist for Hide bot changes from the watchlist. Maybe that setting was removed/changed with an update?
As for the code I use, it is the most recent pywikipedia software. I changed nothing. I can, if you want, stop the bot for a few days or I may just test it here on my talk page. -Barras talk 17:23, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Djsasso: Just tested it here and I got no notification and also no mail that my talk page has been changed by the bot. As for the general watchlist issue pointed out by @Auntof6:, I think that a change in the own settings should fix the problem. Do you wanted me to stop the bot for a few days anyway? -Barras talk 17:40, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Nope you would be running the exact same code as me. -DJSasso (talk) 18:50, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think that's what I must have been remembering, that it didn't trigger new message notifications. So, to quote Emily Litella, never mind, and I'm sorry for the mistake. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 19:08, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
No worries! If you want to not see bot changes on your watchlist, take a look at the preferences. You can adjust them, so bot edits won't be shown on the watchlist. -Barras talk 19:16, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Except that if there's a non-bot edit followed by a bot edit, I wouldn't get any notification of the non-bot edit, either. I'll just leave it. Thanks, though. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:32, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

content of a reversion

Could you look at the content of a reversion I made to Web hosting service. I felt it was probably vandalism, but it would be good to have a second opinion. Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:15, 9 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Uhm, going to forward that one to WMF; I suppressed the revision in the meantime. It could be serious or trolling, but that is not up to us to decide. I will let the right be know about that. -Barras talk 12:20, 9 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Macdonald-ross: Thanks for the pointer! I already got a reply, they will take a look at it/investigate. -Barras talk 12:35, 9 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

A New MediaWiki:Blockedtext is coming soon.

Hello there administrator, Can you change this Mediawiki Message text to this version?

Because some of the information on the current message is now out of date and was from 2007, it is now difficult for the blocked users to understand that message. So this message will not be as confusing than the current one, and it offers more advice.

Since that request for edit protection on the corresponding talk page has been declined already, the next step shouldn't be forum shopping. -Barras talk 10:34, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
This is a cross-wiki vandal who makes this request on many wikis every few weeks. We have been reverting him for years. One of his IPs (96.5.241.8) has been globally locked. Others might have as well but I only know this one because I noticed yesterday when I reverted one that was only a single number off. -DJSasso (talk) 12:54, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I only knew that I've seen such requests before. I just checked it if would be worth globally blocking that IP as well, but I don't think so, see global contribs. But if they come back, it might be worth blocking them as cross-wiki vandal globally. -Barras talk 13:05, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Lock Again

Male or female, I know you are the one who globally lock innocent user Janagewen. And I am that innocent user, if you wish, lock this user again! Fairnessfighter (talk) 12:07, 24 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for that recent block.

I was worried I'd be sitting there for an HOUR reverting it. Krett12 (talk) 21:06, 27 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
