Thank you so much for your extensive cleanup up of articles! FatalFit | ✉   20:38, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @FatalFit, Thanks for the thanks and no worries :), I was amazed at how many pages didn't have Reflist in them although some pages Ive edited should probably be deleted for notability issues, Anyway thanks for the thanks :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 20:43, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I just came here to say something similar! As for missing reflists: a while back, the software started displaying references at the end of a page even when no reflist or equivalent was coded. At that point, I think people started being lax about including actual reference sections, and about putting those sections in the right place. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:03, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Auntof6, Thanks so much, Ahhh okay that makes sense I didn't think of that,
Whilst you're here Auntof6 could I ask do I need the bot flag to make these edits and if so could it be granted on an indefinite basis ?, I plan to do the high priority tasks but I've held back doing more in case I needed this flag, Many thanks Kind Regards –Davey2010Talk 19:12, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
The rule of thumb is that you should ask for the flood flag if you're going to do more than about 100 edits of the same kind. For example, if you're going to add reference sections/templates to more articles than that, you could get the flag. If you're going to do 50 of those, 50 of a different thing, and 50 of a third thing, you would not need the flag because you aren't doing 100 of the same thing.
The flag is not given indefinitely; you have to ask for it each time you want it. Here are the rules I usually go by when asked for the flood flag:
  • Explain exactly what changes you plan to make while you have the flood flag and how long you expect it to take. The admin will evaluate whether the requested changes are appropriate for doing with the flood flag.
  • While the flood flag is active, make only the specific changes you requested it for.
  • The flag is granted for a specific period of time, such as a specific number of hours. One hour or three hours is common, because those are predefined periods in a dropdown list, but other periods can be done. If you finish the changes you requested it for before the time expires, don't make any other changes unless you have the flag removed or it expires.
  • If you are using AWB (which it looks like you aren't), it used to be that AWB didn't recognize when the flag was added or removed until you logged in. (For example, if you were already logged into AWB when the flag was given, you would have to log in again for AWB changes to be suppressed from recent changes, then again after the flag was removed.) I don't know if that's still true.
If you can work with those restrictions, you can probably get the flood flag when doing mass changes. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:11, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
One more note: You can ask for the flag either on the admins' noticeboard or an individual admin's talk page. (I usually prefer not to have requests on my talk page, but that's just me.) Asking on the noticeboard might get you the flag sooner, depending on which admins are around. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:12, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Auntof6, Ahhh i see, Thank you for kindly explaining this,
To be absolutely honest how many edits I would make would all depend on my mood - sometimes I'll crack on and make edit after edit and some days I'll make like 5, realise I can't be bothered and then give up although with those edits they require more than just copy/paste,
But as an overall guess I would say I wouldn't hit 100, Anyway thank you for kindly explaining this I'll bear it in mind wheneer I have a huge amount to do (and will think of hours etc too), Many thanks, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 22:29, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I know what you mean about changing your mind after just a few edits! Several times I've given myself the flood flag, done just a few edits, then decided I didn't really feel like doing any more at the time! -- Auntof6 (talk) 00:36, 26 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

User rights change

Hi there. You asked for your patroller and rollbacker rights to be removed in October 2021 but now you're active again, would you like them back? I think you could use them well again. --Ferien (talk) 17:05, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hiya @Ferien, I hope you're well,
I had completely forgot about asking for the removal of those, I would love to have them back but I should note this was the crux of the Rollback issue and what followed on DJSasso's talkpage made me give up in 2021,
Sadly at that time I could never get Twinkle to work so it was either Rollback or undo - But I've now got it working again so wouldn't need to heavily rely on it like I used too,
Sorry just thought I should probably explain why I had everything removed but of course I'd love them back again :), Many thanks, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 19:11, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Mistakes with rollback happen sometimes, I did think that was just one situation and so I still trust you to use rollback appropriately. I will give you the rights back now :) --Ferien (talk) 19:17, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ferien Exactly we all make mistakes and we all learn from them, Thanks so much I appreciate that a lot :), Many thanks, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 19:23, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks change

Thanks for fixing the {{reflist}} absences, it's how I find so many DYK hooks. I go to the template and click "What links here". DYK hooks have to be cited so .... :) fr33kman 17:19, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've assigned you the flood flag for 3 hours as you are flooding the recent changes page. Hope that's ok. fr33kman 17:35, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Fr33kman, Apologies for the late reply - saw your flood message so wanted to do as much as humanely possible within 3 hours,
No worries - I checked "reflist missing" a few weeks back and it was empty so I'm surprised it was huge all of a sudden,
Apologies for flooding the recent changes page - I did discuss the flood flag above but it was decided (mutual agreement) that I didn't need it but yeah apologies for that and many thanks for granting the flag :),
I'm done flooding now so you can remove it if you want - Thanks again for granting this it's greatly appreciated, Many thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 19:53, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
