The Ususal

Hi Ferien. Thanks for dealing with the user, I'm still getting pestered by them over various wikis here. I'd report them there, but only pseudo-registered users can respond to vandals on that wiki. (which I'm not). Is there any way to stop this IP throughout the wikis? I'm just ignoring them for now, but I have received 20 alerts from them in my inbox from interwiki comments and get notices for it in the regular wiki. Is there any solution? Hello Andrzejbanas, IPs are sometimes blocked for cross-wiki abuse, which I suppose this could count as, messaging you on loads of different wikis when it's unwanted. You could make a report on m:SRG (where you can request global locks and blocks). --Ferien (talk) 22:18, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Unable to convert

The bare URLs of book websites can be converted through automatic process. But those of news and magazine websites can't. Few months ago, I can automatically convert any form of websites but nowadays, I can't. I don't know if the problem is only mine or also for others. In Wikipedia:Simple Talk#Unable to convert, Castilibrary2 says he could convert anything in en wiki, but not for web in simple. Well, today, I learned how to do manually. Though manual takes more labour, I have to do that until Simple wiki technicians fixed it. A few months ago, everything could be done! But nowadays, things aren't like before! Idk why? How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

important note

Hello dear. I would like to point out one very important thing. This article (Jack Ninte) is for a person who is trying to promote himself and does not achieve sufficient noticeability or fame, and has written about himself on English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Hebrew and Egyptian Wikipedia, and his articles have been deleted and his accounts are banned because he creates sock puppet accounts. When I nominate an article for deletion, he (IP) removes the filter template and threatens me with ban! This is completely against Wikipedia's policy.

I see Eptalon has now deleted it, but personally I had an issue with the RfD because Macdonald-ross quickly deleted it for no valid reason (the article was not unambiguous advertising as suggested and it was on a person, so G11 doesn't apply) and there was no unanimous !vote or anything like that, so I feel like an RfD would have done the job. Of course, WP:IAR and everything, but I disagreed. And unless there has been a proper RfD, G4 doesn't actually apply. --Ferien (talk) 17:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Recent changes

• A oauth_consumer variable has been added to the AbuseFilter to enable identifying changes made by specific tools. [1]
• Gadgets are now able to directly include JSON pages. This means some gadgets can now be configured by administrators without needing the interface administrator permission, such as with the Geonotice gadget. [2]
• Gadgets can now specify page actions on which they are available. For example, |actions=edit,history will load a gadget only while editing and on history pages. [3]
• Gadgets can now be loaded on demand with the withgadget URL parameter. This can be used to replace an earlier snippet that typically looks like withJS or withCSS. [4]
• At wikis where the Mentorship system is configured, you can now use the Action API to get a list of a mentor's mentees. [5]
• The heading on the main page can now be configured using MediaWiki:Mainpage-title-loggedin for logged-in users and MediaWiki:Mainpage-title for logged-out users. Any CSS that was previously used to hide the heading should be removed. [6] [7]
• Four special pages (and their API counterparts) now have a maximum database query execution time of 30 seconds. These special pages are: RecentChanges, Watchlist, Contributions, and Log. Hi Auntof6. No, FerienBot won't automatically fix those kinds of errors. I don't think WPCleaner supports that right now. All the ones that the bot couldn't fix are presented to me at the end though so they can be fixed manually afterwards. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:49, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
