EnglishVersion Template

Yes, you are right in that the InterWiki effectively does the same thing. I will just go and remove the template. James Kanjo (talk) 21:18, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would suggest instead of removing it to nominate it for deletion. Razorflame 20:51, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Redirects

In response to your comment about redirects: I created the redirects because some of the counties for which I created them were showing up very low in the search results and one did not show up at all unless I searched for the exact article name, which most people probably would not do. I wasn’t trying to cause problems or anything, I just wanted to make the articles easier to find. I will stop making redirects that aren’t on the English Wikipedia. --From-cary (talk) 14:01, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

All right. I didn't know what your reasons are for making them, but obviously, you seemed to have good intentions. I wasn't trying to be a bad person or anything, but I just thought that they weren't going to be very searched for redirects. Razorflame 15:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nomination

Hello, Razorflame. I want to nominate you to be an admin, what do you think?--RecorDprodUceR (talK 2 mE) 16:37, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry, but I have to decline the nomination. Tygrrr gave me some good advice earlier, and I am going to follow it. I will wait for someone respected in the community to nominate me (People I consider respected in the community: Barliner, Tygrrrr, Browne34, Creol) before I run for the administrator flag again. Thank you for your thought, but I have decided that I am simply not ready for this job yet. Razorflame 18:34, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am not with you. Remember this time you didn't nominate your self, but you've been nominated with some one else. Please can consider little bit about this? You don't have to worry about this, cause you have a lot of number of edit in article only (8,978). It's basic reason for you to be an admin. Please allow me to nominate you! And you'll see some reaction, Cheers...--RecorDprodUceR (talK 2 mE) 04:56, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deathyr

One thing to remember about {{Deathyr}} - It comes with built in categories so the categories on the pages themselves should be removed if Deathyr is being used. I added the template to all death pages after year 100 (541 freaking edits..) and removed the categories from the 1600s pages that you had already tagged. I also tweaked the template a little to make it more friendly (CategoryTOC was not needed and it no longer shows a "see also" link if the birth category does not exist) -- Creol(talk) 07:47, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alright. Thanks for letting me know about this Creol :). Razorflame 13:03, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

To avoid typos when your using vandal warner, a good idea might be to copypaste the title of the article when your entering the article name of the vandalized article. Cheers,-- Lights  talk  15:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing this out to me. I will try to do so in the future :) Razorflame 15:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lists of rivers

The Category:Lists of rivers in the United States (sorted by state) has been created to group all US river lists together. Also, many US states have subcategories for either rivers, bodies of water or geography (depending on how deep the cat tree needs to go for that state). Country based lists were grouped into Category:Lists of rivers by country (sorted by country name) and should eventually be sorted into individual continent groupings as well (only Category:Lists of rivers in Asia currently is needed). Again, most larger country categories have geography based subcategories.

It is better to check the category (state or country) in question before adding the article to the main category to see if there is a more appropriate sub category. I have moved all those that were already in Category:Lists of rivers to the new / correct categories. -- Creol(talk) 22:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

All right. I wasn't sure where they should've gone, so I just put them into those kinds of categories. Now that I know where they are supposed to go, I will start to add them to the correct categories. Thanks for letting me know about this. Razorflame 14:55, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

More rivers

The Hudson, Santee, Potomac and Platte were just in the US rivers category. I put them into states. Hudson (NY and NJ) and Platte (NB) were no problem. The Platee (SC) and Potomac (WV, VA, DC, MD) all needed new "Rivers in...." cats. I created them as subcats of the states and rivers in the USA. Don't think they need to go any deeper (eg Geography of...) --Bärliner 16:57, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

BTW that is five subcategories for just two rivers. Can't you lot reorganise your country. Think of the savings. Scrap 48 governors and replace them with one for east of the Appalachians, one for West of the Rockies and the third for the bit in the middle. It would save lots of subcats too. :)--Bärliner 17:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would have to agree with you there. I think that the whole idea is completely complex and unnecessary and I would also agree with you that it would save us a lot of money and time in the future. As for the rivers, I think that since rivers are a part of the geography for each state, they should be categorized as such. Razorflame 18:32, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Of course, should have said "deeper yet", I don't think the geography cats exist yet, and my last serious study of US geography was before I graduated highschool. On my talk page I don't think creol agrees with the abolition of states idea....--Bärliner 18:42, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've read the said stuff said on your page and I would have to agree with Creol. Even though our country is a little messed up, yours is too (though you are taking more steps to unify yourselves than we are :) ) Razorflame 18:47, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Gianlorenzo Bernini

Hi! I just noticed your move of this page. Whoever began the Wikipedia page got it wrong. The man's name is either Giovanni Lorenzo or "Gianlorenzo" because this is the way in which Italian names are abbreviated. Gian Lorenzo is not the usual form.

A classic example is the Basilica of San Giovanni e San Paolo in Venice which is locally known as "Zanipolo".

Amandajm (talk) 07:55, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Leave it! I did an Italian language search, and in the case of Bernini they use both forms. Amandajm (talk) 08:05, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
You really should stop treating people like they are children all the time. I moved the page because of the fact that the English Wikipedia page was created at that name, not because of the fact that I didn't like the name or that the name that I moved it to was better. Razorflame 14:53, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not treating you like a child.
Many of the articles about artists on Wikipedia have copied directly from the old Britannica. The articles on Italian artists are nearly all by William Rosetti. They use the names that were current in 19th century England, with no respect for Italian spelling or convention. Rosetti's style was extraordinarily POV; for example he really slams Fra Angelico as "mawkish and sentimental". His standard of expression was exceedingly unencyclopedic, even 100 years ago.
In consequence of this, and urged on by several Italian editors on the Wikipedia site, I have been trying to put some of this stuff to rights.
At the same time, there are problems caused by people who persist in calling Italian artists by "full names". Michelangelo, for example, had a surname. But in his lifetime and for 400 years after, was honoured by being known by one name. When one says "Michelangelo" (or Leonardo, or Raphael for that matter) nothing more is needed. Wiki editors (and stupid Dan Brown) insist on some modern convention and want to call them Buonarotti and da Vinci and di Santi.
The point that I am making is that there are a great many "un-wiki" and "un-encyclopedic" problems with the art history pages on Wikipedia, and where there are errors, I'd prefer not to transport them. It's one of the reasons why I tend not to simply copy and paste articles on painters and then edit them into simpler language. Most of my Art History articles have been written from scratch for Simple Wiki, or else are simpler versions of articles that I have written or collaborated on.

Obergösgen

Hi, it's nice you create stubs for different places in Swizerland; However, what is it that makes Obergösgen notable? - Note ther Nuclear power plants are either in Leibstadt;the one called Gösgen, is actually in Däniken (To tell the truth: the region between Dulliken and Däniken is probably one of the most boring inm Switzerland - Since the Bally works in Shönenwed have closed down (and I think an outlet park has been built).

So what exactly makes Obergösgen worth mentioning? --Eptalon (talk) 15:17, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The fact that it has nearly 7 interwiki links and the fact that it is a municipality of Switzerland is what makes the town notable. If this municipality page that was created over 7 months ago on the regular English Wikipedia hasn't been deleted for notability issues by now, then I think that they think it is notable. The English Wikipedia has even stricter rules than we do about the notability of such pages, so if they consider this page to be a notable page, then I see no reason why we should delete our version of this page. Seeking another advice if you have a while

I have made a start on a Gerhard Ertl article and plan a few of these on Nobel prizewinners and may find most of them referenced from en.wiki (as this one) so this one is directly what is on en.wiki but taken apart by me to suit simple.wiki and I havent checked any references or added anything else so that I could ask about if it was suiting simple.wiki. If you would like to have a look at it and compare the en.wiki one is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerhard_Ertl . I thought that scientific names, where important (discoveries etc.), and university names would be important. Dont mean to take all your time but would like an opinion if possible and will base a few dozen more about Nobel prizewinners on it. Is it okay to try and simplify stuff from en.wiki and post it on simple.wiki? ~ R.T.G 21:29, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, got that but I dont know how to add the interwikis. I will try to break up the format a bit as you said but the only big change at the minute is a bigger picture but I am tweaking it a bit for headings and putting personal life etc up the page. Please let me know about the interwiki links if it is easy to add them. ~ R.T.G 18:59, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Interwikis are easy to add. For example, if a page for Magnetism existed in the English Wikipedia, then this is how you would add the interwiki:

[[en:Magnetism]]

Where it says en, you can also put in the language codes for any other Wikipedia that has a page created for that topic. For example:

[[pl:Magnetism]]

CU

Hi Razor. I have a certain question:

What different between admin and check user? And what check user is doing for?--Mitaa ya Cut RekOrds (talk) 04:46, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

A checkuser is a user who is able to see all the accounts registered to an IP address, or all of the IP addresses a certain account uses. This position is regulated quite strictly, as it is close to an invasion of privacy. You have to be 18 years of age or older and you have to be an administrator on the Wikipedia that you would like checkuser permissions on. Furthermore, you have to have at least 25 support votes and at least 70% support. Hopes this helps. Razorflame 21:59, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Who can make some one to be a checkuser, is crat or??--Mitaa ya Cut RekOrds (talk) 04:45, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I believe that stewards are the only people who can make checkusers. Stewards are like global moderators, they help monitor all of the Wikipedias in existance and can help out with vandalism if it is really needed (massive page creation vandals/vandalbots/automated vandals etc.). Razorflame 18:57, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

re:checkusers

Yes, I think only stewards can make a user into a checkuser. Bureaucrats get two extra tools, "rename a user" and "make a user into a sysop". Only stewards get the "user rights management" tool. --Isis(talk) 19:20, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

'Crats have the ability to rename, grant both sysop and 'crat flags and grant or revoke bot flags on their associated wiki. Stewards have rename and the ability to rename and grant or revoke any user rights on any wiki. 'Crats actually do get the "User rights management" tool, but it is limited to only adding the three listed flags (sysop, crat, and bot) and removing bot where Stewards with it have full access to all flags. -- Creol(talk) 23:58, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome

Hey Razorflame, thanks for the welcome! Talk about flashback, I had one of those over two years ago on English Wikipedia and suddenly thought I'd contribute over here at Simple English Wiki for a bit. I've got loads of stuff I can offer... Thanks again, look forward to contributing here. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem! I hope to see you contribute actively here over the next long period of time. I am mainly here between Mondays and Fridays and usually in the middle of the day. Cheers, Razorflame 20:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hey, just a quick note to ask if you think the recent additions I've made are appropriate and to see if you think my football articles will be well received? I've noticed that a very keen admin deleted a bunch of football articles back in 2006, I'm recreating them, being bold and all that! I reckon I can turn over a few hundred articles in the next few days if that'd be of use? The Rambling Man (talk) 15:45, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think that they have been appropriate so far. I see no reason, given the number of interwiki links that each article has, that any of these pages shouldn't be created. Cheers, Razorflame 15:46, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
A few hundred. Wow, that's amazing! I just had a look - is there a free image on Commons you could add to each of the articles? By the way, we don't allow fair use, or local uploads on this Wikipedia, so all media has to be uploaded on Commons, or taken from there. Majorly (talk) 15:48, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
So part of the consideration for appropriate articles here on Simple English wiki is whether significant interwiki links exist? It would make a lot of sense I guess... Yeah, I guess I could rack up a couple of hundred stubs here, with images where appropriate! Then I'll make a bid to take over the Wiki...admin, 'crat, the whole lot, then I'll delete the main page....!! ;-) The Rambling Man (talk) 15:50, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Before you would be allowed to do such a thing, you should take a look at the Wikipedia:Criteria for adminship page. I would also suggest not making them so short of articles; maybe there is something you could do to increase the length of the articles by a bit? Cheers, Razorflame 15:52, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I can do that. And I will also try to reduce the floral language I use. It's difficult to go from "Brilliant prose" in English Wikipedia featured articles to simply prose here. But it's a challenge I'm willing to take on. Thanks for your advice! The Rambling Man (talk) 15:57, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Linking on talk pages

When you are asking someone to look as something (such as you did on Eptalon's talk page, you may want to consider linking to item in question. It makes it a lot easier to look into the matter with the link right there than to have to go search for the correct page. Even when just talking about a particular matter (ie. "Should we do something about www.xxx.yyy.zzz?), linking to the topic save a lot of time and unneeded effort. -- Creol(talk) 23:17, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I noticed. Thanks, Razorflame 20:06, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You know what....

.. your messages could be a little friendlier! I'm doing my best to try to expand this little wiki and bring the experience I have from English Wikipedia, and so far, besides saying "thanks!" at the end of your messages, they're very terse. Perhaps I'm expecting too much here but I'm eager to learn and little friendly nudge rather than "Please use this template for all person pages in the future." instructions would help enormously. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:13, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I can try to be more friendlier in the future :) That wasn't my intent in my message; I actually was trying to give you a little helpful nudge :) I just seem to be stuck in what I like to call terse-mode because of all of the vandalism that I just got done reverting. Sorry for you receiving the short ends of my pointy sticks :( :) Razorflame 20:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
No worries. I'm getting used to being a newbie again after nearly three years on the English Wikipedia. All helpful (or unhelpful) nudges will be acted upon. All the best! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the barnstar! The Rambling Man (talk) 07:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Enwp based

Just a note: When using {{Enwp based}}, the exact version of the article used needs to be referenced, not just the article itself. The template wasn't exactly clear on this so I added a note to it as well. This way we are claiming to use the article as a basis only up to and including a specific version (and the history up to that point) rather than all edits past that point which are not a part of what was used to create the article here. Instructions on locating the reference for the most current version are now included in the template instructions. -- Creol(talk) 20:19, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I realized this the second you posted it onto the template. I will start using the permanent link function on en:WP to get the correct URL now. Thanks for helping me out here and I hope that I will start to use this template correctly from now on. Razorflame 20:31, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Moving

Hi! Why are you moving pages and to where? I would like to help you. SwirlBoy39 13:21, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm only moving pages that I create under one name and then moving them to the name used by en:WP so that a redirect is created to the correct name as it is in the English Wikipedia. As I am only moving as I need to, I don't need any help. Thanks for offering, though. Razorflame 13:23, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sure! Good luck in your RFA! SwirlBoy39 13:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Thanks I want to be more active here on Simple, so I'm trying out some scripts that will encourage me to go back and forth from en.wp and simple.wp. We'll see... Koavf (talk) 19:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Requesting moves

Hi Razorflame, where can I go to request a page or category be moved? Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:57, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

There isn't any page on simple.wiki to request that a page be moved like en:Wikipedia:Requested moves. Categories cannot be moved like pages in other namespaces, to move a category copy its content and paste it into the new name, add {{catredirect}} to the old name, and move all the articles to the new name.-- Lights  talk  12:12, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but I wasn't on when you asked me this question. I see that Lights answered your question impressively, so that is alright with me. Cheers, Razorflame 13:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

re: Barliner

Hi there, if you are a sysop here, could you please fulfil the request I left on his page? Also User talk:Barliner/archive5. Thanks :) Riana (talk) 13:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am not currently a sysop here, so I can't fulfill your request, but I have an open RfA currently. Cheers, Razorflame 13:27, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah okay, well that's your first sysop task :P Good luck with your RfA! Riana (talk) 13:28, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I hope it will end well, but I am unsure about it because nobody seems to be voting in it. Cheers, Razorflame 13:30, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I fixed it! Majorly (talk) 13:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please don't archive things so quickley, other users will probably want to see how it was closed, thanks Oysterguitarist 14:21, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
