Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:
- An English Wikipedian's guide
- Writing in Simple English
- Simple talk: our help desk, reference desk and village pump- in one page
- How to copy from English Wikipedia
- A very incomplete list of our active editors
There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need help. Osiris (talk) 06:19, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Regarding Wikidata and redirects
changeHere is the link to the discussion on Wikidata was referring to in the Wikipedia talk:Deletion policy discussion: d:Wikidata:Project chat#Issue pertaining to redirects. I hope that you can provide some insight into this, or at least provide feedback. Unless this gets addressed soon, I can see other editors creating more drastic cases of issues like what happened with my edits on Wikipedia talk:Deletion policy.
P.S. You might see this message on more than one of your Wikimedia sites: I want to make sure you received this message, as I do not know which Wikimedia site you use the most. Steel1943 (talk) 05:18, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Please do not spam me on multiple sites, as I get emails on all of them. --Rschen7754 05:19, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Could you please not instruct me on how to perform my actions on these sites? Asking is the polite way to communicate with an individual, not an imperative sentence. Steel1943 (talk) 05:32, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but it's rude to spam someone on multiple sites. If you really want to get someone's attention, check to see what wiki they have the most edits on. --Rschen7754 05:43, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- It's not necessarily rude, as it is for the sake of your privacy that I do not know your email preferences settings on your Wikimedia sites, so thus I took the action I thought would have received your attention, while leaving a note that you might be seeing the message in more than one place. Seems like our definitions of the word "courtesy" are different. No worries. Steel1943 (talk) 05:49, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Learning about what constitutes spamming
changeWould this qualify? --Auntof6 (talk) 22:07, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think an argument could be made that it is promotional, but it's not definitely clear-cut spamming, at least from what I can tell - as the topic could possibly be notable. --Rschen7754 22:11, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
100 edits to stay an admin
changeOh, that really is an issue! Let's just say it took a lot of pushing to get as far as having a clear criterion for staying as an admin. The bar was placed so low that anyone not actually dead could get over it in a weekend (100 edits a year). I'll leave you to guess what I think of that... Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:14, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that's actually higher than on all the Wikimedia sites that I'm a part of. In my opinion, if they use it, it saves others some work, and if they don't, then it just gets taken away in the next inactivity cycle. Meanwhile, the number of inactive CU/OS holders seems to be more pressing. --Rschen7754 03:43, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- Admins need to know what is going on. There have been some really difficult decisions about individuals which required good understanding and judgement. Other wikis may face other situations. English wiki is desperately short of admins, but being an admin there is no picnic...
- I'm not sure why you think we need more CUs and OSighters. We agreed to limit the numbers of CUs. They are supposed to coordinate so that one is always available at short notice. Usually only admins need to use them, in connection with possible sock-puppetry. Oversighting is easy to get wrong. If an OS blanks a contribution it may mean that editors cannot express an opinion about a proposed ban. So the action is best kept for extreme cases that merit an immediate and indefinite ban. Best wishes, Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:15, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- No, I mean that we shouldn't have this many inactive CU/OS holders, and that they should be removed. I'm familiar with what the tools are from my work on other wikis. --Rschen7754 20:11, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
An editor has requested deletion of Template:Copied-multi/Merged-from, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2018/Copied-multi/Merged-from and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. 2606:A000:6990:A800:3DAD:71E7:B732:61D6 (talk) 12:34, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
