Simple News

As you probably noticed, I got Yotbot to deliver SN special edition. However, the collapsible box still doesn't work. Yotcmdr✼ Merry Christmas ! ✼ 10:15, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think i might have said this, but i'll say it again ;) Overall, a great job. There are a couple of niggles that i'll set GBot1 to fix, but other than that very good :D (But now i'm back i'm having the job... even thought GBot1 was still going to continue anyway :P ) BG7even 13:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Hiya, Bluegoblin. I know you're inactive at the moment, but can you answer this when you get back? You said that Simple would gain 2 more admins (not including you). So who are they? Is one of them me? TurboGolf 07:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Tharnton,
I wasn't really thinking of anyone in particular, more that we would get two. I don't know you well enough yet to say if you would be one or not. Sorry, BG7even 13:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back, Bluegoblin!

Now get back to work on creating those railway-related articles ;) TurboGolf 13:12, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the re-welcome! I have lots and lots of articles planned over the next month of so (over 1000!) not just on Railways but transport in general and also places ;)
Cheers, BG7even 13:17, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cool! As I am now off cars, you can complete them. TurboGolf 13:30, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I might do at some stage ;) BG7even 13:35, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yay BG!! Nice to have you back (I was starting to get bored talking to Synergy all the time ;) )!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yotcmdr (talkcontribs) (Why do I always forget to sign...? Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 15:16, 11 January 2009 (UTC))Reply

Hehe ;) Thanks mate. Anyway, im off to get back into the swing of things :P BG7even 14:17, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Glad to see you are finally back and editing on this site. There are a lot of articles that could use creation, so hop to it ;). Razorflame 14:35, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hehe, thanks. It's only been a week, but i've done a lot in that week ;) BG7even 16:10, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
This is Razorflame's bot, in case you were wondering ;). He's in the middle of creating france commune stubs at the moment, so I can't edit on Razorflame while I'm making them using AWB. Cheers, Darkicebot (talk) 16:12, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hehe i know. Actually, you can. That is, if you get another browser such as Firefox, AWB works through IE ;) BG7even 16:14, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lol, I'm very good at stealing designs :D! Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 17:03, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hehe ;) I don't mind ;). But remember to add the name= parameter ;) BG7even 17:15, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

DYK credit

Please discuss this before you remove the section. Thanks, NonvocalScream (talk) 21:30, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

See my comments at Wikipedia talk:Did you know. There is no consensus for it to be added, so the default position is for it to be removed. BG7even 21:33, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

2008 Earthquake

I will take up the suggestion and move the rest to my sandbox - I'll keep chipping away at the rest.--Peterdownunder (talk) 10:17, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

P(V)GA

Yes, you did great- next time remember to add the articles to the by date page as well; Other than that, we probably need to strengthen community interest in the process(es) again; we also need some nominations, there are currently two left for PGA, and once the nudity debate is done, there will be no nominations for PVGA.. (On a side-note: your talkpage probably needs archiving as well?) --Eptalon (talk) 11:45, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I didn't actually realise that the date page was there, thus why I didn't do it ;) Yes, we do need to rekindle activity - one of my targets for 2009 is to write a VGA and 2 GAs so i'll get working on them! (And yes, my talk page is about to be archived ;) ). BG7even 11:47, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

GFDL complience

I noticed some of your new creations are GFDL non-compliant. Can you run a bot thru each of them, or if not, do you need some help. The source has to be stated, even if it is a derivative. An example article is British Rail DP2. Best, NonvocalScream (talk) 02:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeh i'll run GBot2 through them tomorrow. Slipped my mind, sorry. BG7even 02:12, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

2008 Earthquake

Have been through the whole article and simplified as much as i could - see figures on the talk page. I have also checked the info against the enwiki and updated the info. I have removed the complex and update tags. Who removes the RFD tag? --Peterdownunder (talk) 05:16, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Done - Thanks for your help. BG7even 11:14, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Two things - templates and rollbacks

Hi

thanks for the response - I'll leave the templates to you - I have tried fiddling in my sandbox and end up in a mess!

Second thing - rollbacks, several people have been vandalising the Calculus page - I can rollback the top one, but how can I get back through other edits until I get to the good copy? I have pressed "undo" and may have created a bigger problem. Do I have to go back and manually change it from the good copy? Thanks, --Peterdownunder (talk) 10:52, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ok, i'll have a look at it when I get a chance. Someone else may beat me to it ;)
I've fixed the page. If it continues, you might want to suggest semi-protection.
Thanks,
BG7even 10:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why

Why do you copy n' paste from en.wiki? TurboGolf 18:58, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't. I copy and paste things like templates and stuff (which are making their way here too) as they are helpful. They're what we need (I was also involved in the creation of some of them so some I have re-written for here). BG7even 19:12, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
From all the links that are appearing on Wikipedia in railway articles, I would say that you are systematically copying articles from Wikipedia, paring them down, and putting them on Simple Wikipedia. There is minimal writing involved. In other areas of life it would be called plagiarism. Bhtpbank (talk) 07:47, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually it wouldn't necessarily be called plagiarism as he wrote some of them in the first place. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 17:16, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
If you want me to provide evidence that he is plagiarising articles written by others, then I can provide them in quantity. If it continues, I might need to raise the issue at a higher level. Bhtpbank (talk) 20:08, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

SN layout

A few comments about the layout of the current edition of SN. Try grouping together the admin related news (i.e. all those who failed in one group, all those who passed in another) to give a clearer view on who was promoted and who wasn't.

You may also want to format the ANNOUNCEMENT section, since long lists of numbers isn't particularly appealing on the eye. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comments Gwib, I will see what I can do ;). I may leave it for this issue due to time constraints, but i'm planning a full layout overhaul of the entire Simple News area for the next issue so it will happen then regardless.
Thanks again,

RFA

Give up your rfa, they've got it in for you like thery did for shappy. They're all f****ing reasons from all f*** all the troublemakers here at simple. It was better with them inactive or not here. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 17:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, because that would be giving in to those who don't think I am capable of being an administrator. I have a week to show them that I can be. And I plan on doing so. BG7even 17:16, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yotcmdr, that's not the conduct I expect in administrators. Bluegoblin, yes, keep your chin up. Even if it fails, there is always next time. Generally, the community needs to develop more trust in you. Just work at it, and let time tick... tick... tick... — RyanCross (talk) 18:50, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Then why am I or Djsasso admins, and not Shappy or BG? It's all crazzy. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 19:01, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yotcmdr, relax. Calm down. Getting worked up about it doesn't do anything. BG7: sadly, as I learned with my own request, after a week they probably won't change. :( Shapiros10 Flap the Yap 12:29, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Shappy: I'm sure it won't. I've accepted that it is going to fail, but w/e. Idc. I'm not withdrawing it, let it run. BG7even 12:32, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Shapps, I'm sorry but all of this is getting out of hand. Any more of this at simple and I quit. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 18:04, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, before delivery, could you check this page. I am not sure how often DYK hooks are updated. Could you correct? Ta Kennedy (talk) 16:21, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Will do. There's not really a set length. We aim for every 2-3 days so I will add that. Sometimes it is less, sometimes it is more. Thanks, BG7even 16:25, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thankspam

Thank you for voting in my recent RfA. Unfortunately, I have decided to withdraw from the RfA due to concerns brought up in the oppose votes. The final tally was 4 supports and 6 opposes. I would like to thank American Eagle for the nomination. Razorflame 22:08, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to hear it - I was actually mulling over a change to support. I would however be happy to nom or co-nom you in the future when I feel you are ready - more than likely a couple of months.

GB3 has been approved as an AWB based delivery bot. Sorry that took so long. Couple of things got pushed back in all the drama recently. --Creol(talk) 12:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Creol, thanks for that! No worries about the length - I hope I was ok to run it for the 19th's issue as it has already been approved under GBot1. Thanks, BG7even 12:32, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Expired noms"

Please don't remove nominations as "expired noms" like you did here. There is nothing in the rules that says there is a time limit on how long a nomination can sit on the nomination page. Instead, please comment (approval or disapproval) on the hooks. There is no reason to remove these, Either way (talk) 18:12, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I think you will find noms have always expired after about 5 days, and it is also in the rules proposal at Wikipedia talk:Did you know that there have been no objections too. If there has been no comments/actions on the hook by the editor who nommed it, it should time-out - why should another editor pick it up? Thanks, BG7even 18:20, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Where does it say five days is the standard? It's not in the rules or instructions. Every nomination should be acted upon. They should only "expire" if someone raises a concern about it, and the nominator never comes along to fix it. The fact that others have not commented on it or have not followed up on concerns they raised should not reflect on the nominator by having his hooks removed. Either way (talk) 18:23, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
There ya go someone's objected. Either way (talk) 18:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't however it has been commented on multiple times and I am not the only editor tht has done it. Remember, not all guidlines have to be followed. If you would prefer, shall I add a {{subst:DYKno}} to all the articles first, and then remove them as expired? BG7even 18:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
If you have reasonable objections, then yes, you're always welcome to add DYKno to a nomination. Of course, you shouldn't add that and then remove it as expired without giving the nominator a decent time frame to respond to your concerns, Either way (talk) 18:35, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wait... so I can remove nominations as expired after giving a decent amound of time? I'm sure you just said that I couldn't. The two I removed were nominated over 2 weeks ago, and the concerns had not been met. I only remove hooks without input after being declared as a no or an almost without comments in the last 5 days, not hooks that haven't already been commented upon. BG7even 18:51, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yep, i've screwed up here ;) I didn't fully check the nominations. My bad ;) *trouts self* Apologies Either way! But, I think the discussion should continue. BG7even 18:59, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
There's no need to be rude about it. I've seen at least two posts from you today that could be taken as personal attacks. Please calm down. BG7even 18:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please point to which two comments have been personal attacks. Thank you, Either way (talk) 18:35, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
The message above, "There ya go someone's objected. Either way (talk) 18:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)" and also one to Tharnton345 at the next update page about hus Jupiter rings nomination. Thanks, BG7even 18:51, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your RfA...

Hello Bluegoblin7, you probably saw it coming, but at a more or less 50% support, I cannot reasonably promote you to Admin. Sorry. I have closed your RfA. Try to work on the issues pointed out, and perhaps you have more luck next time. Please also do not misread the result: this is about you becoming admin, not your work in this WP in general. --Eptalon (talk) 18:41, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Excellent decision. Bhtpbank (talk) 07:46, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please do not comment on wether the decision is good or not. You have an opinion, but it isn't the same necessarily as other people.Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 16:50, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
What? Why was Bhtpbank's comment struck? Juliancolton (talk) 16:51, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Probably because it could be defined as a personal attack to BG7. Cheers, Razorflame 16:52, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes it could be considered as a PA. It made me angry and sad at the same time, so I don't imagine what BG would feel. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 16:56, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
How is agreeing with the closing 'crat a personal attack? Juliancolton (talk) 16:58, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Isn't but saying it was an excellent decision is a diffrent matter and it's obviously because Bhtpbank doesn't like BG. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 17:13, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Alright then. Juliancolton (talk) 17:13, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nominating PGA and PVGA

Hello Bluegoblin7. Can I suggest instead of making multiple nominations across both PGA and PVGA, you pick a single article to try to get to Good Article status? At the moment you´re nominating articles which are nowhere near ready for voting and wasting a lot of reviewing effort of other editors. Try looking at other VGA/GAs to see what we´re trying to achieve as good or very good articles. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 19:12, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi TRM,
Just to clarify, I have only nominated one article for a GA, and that is Crich Tramway Village. The rest has been clerking, taking articles nominated by others to !voting. The signature and time stamp is just for personal reference so that I know when to close them. Many thanks, Goblin 20:03, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, well since so many of them are quick-failing, perhaps you could, in your clerking role, remove them until they are in a more suitable state. The GA/VGA process is poor enough as it is without flooding the proposal area with articles which are nowhere near good enough, I´m sure you´ll agree. Cheers. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 20:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I do agree, and I do check articles before I take them to !voting. I base my decision around the comments that have been made, whether they have been responded too and what state the article is currently in etc. If there is a reasonable chance that they can be fixed before !voting closes, then I will list them. If there's no chance, I don't. With the current group I felt that they all had a moderate chance, and so used the initiative to take them to !voting. The reason for the low quality and large amount of articles is that we had a push because it was drying up. It appears that people were submitting sub-standard articles. Hey-ho.
