Hello, I'm Colonelsnow. This is my Talkpage, so please begin discussions here.

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make helpful changes to the encyclopedia. You may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to keep the encyclopedia looking neat and professional. Using different styles in the encyclopedia, as you did to "Bernard M. Baruch", can make it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about changing this encyclopedia. Thank you. MathXplore (talk) 13:01, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have replied on your talk page. Colonelsnow (talk) 14:49, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not use styles that are unusual or hard to understand in articles, as you did to "Bernard Baruch". There is a Manual of Style that should be followed. Changes made to articles should not go against it without a good reason. Thank you. MathXplore (talk) 11:37, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please note that section headings are not needed at the intro. MathXplore (talk) 11:39, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Colonelsnow (talk) 11:49, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi There is no need to post on here what new articles you created, however, on your user page you can create a section linking to articles you created. I also would like to mention about the policy on ownership. I saw in a post to another users talk page where you said "my article" (located at User_talk:Rathfelder#By_Colonelsnow). Our policy located at Wikipedia:Ownership_of_articles specifically states that no one owns any article on Wikipedia. I would encourage you going forward to not use that language to avoid the mere appearance of ownership. If you have any questions, please feel free to ping me here. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 09:21, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, Da Lamb (I won't eat da), I will be very careful. Colonelsnow (talk) 11:20, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Youv'e added some links, made a warning on the top, and made the graphing a lot better. Thanks. And I'll delete 'New Articles' in a minute. Don't worry about further 'mischief'. Colonelsnow (talk) 11:28, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bernard Baruch

change

I have fixed the infobox in the article Bernard Baruch. Please follow our format at Wikipedia:Manual of Style as to how things need to be. In addition, anything on Wikipedia needs reliable sources. I have tagged this article as needing them, especially since it is a biography. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 09:26, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Heard the same thing from MathXplore. Will be extra --> extra careful. Thanks for the reminder. Colonelsnow (talk) 14:34, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Simple editing does have a lot of distinguished characteristics. Colonelsnow (talk) 14:35, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion of Jebel Sahaba

change

The page you wrote, Jebel Sahaba, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. Jebel Sahaba

change

Although Wikipedia is owned by everyone (not to mention cats ^_^) I persuade that the article 'Jebel Sahaba' should not be deleted. Some parts are changed to be correct, and now no one (as usual) is claiming to be an owner.

The larger problem besides this particular ariticle's request for quick deletion is that major autoconfirmed users (most wikipedians would know who they are in a matter of 2 weeks) delete pages, not edit them or let Wikipedia or the page's creator know about their mistakes. If wikipedia continues to be like this, Simple English might only have its current 247,810 articles. Will there be a Wikipedian Revolution or a revolt wikipedia? But if too offensive or nessecary, they should delete pages. (And it also would be a good idea to rewrite them. Or maybe discussing deletion might be proper. For example, PotsdamLamb first just made a notice for a quick deletion of Jebel Sahaba and let me know about my mistakes, not just going ahead and deleting stuff.

Colonelsnow (talk) 09:55, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

In response to this, some of us do not work on articles as we are busy doing other things. For example my focus is on anti-vandalism work, cleaning up error categories so there are no errors on pages, making sure they are properly formatted, creating templates as needed and filling out articles with missing items like taxonbars, authority control and other items so that they are properly functioning and as error free as they can be. When an editor brings over an article, it is shown in our logs that some of us get alerts to and monitor for the work we do. We inform the person who just created it that they need to follow the policies and WP:MOS on articles. If they are bad articles in some way or form, then yes we will request either a quick deletion or a request for deletion (this is a discussion about whether it can be saved and has enough substance to it to be in an encyclopedia. If you are going to single out an editor, you need to ping them so they can respond. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 12:46, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
In some cases, I agree very much. Two sides of an argument brings justice. Thanks, PotdamLamb. I oblige you thanks. 😎 Colonelsnow (talk) 12:59, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is not an argument. It is your opinion. I was just correcting you on your interpretation of what it seems you think we are supposed to do as editors. We all have different roles on wikis that we participate in. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 13:13, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Very true. Colonelsnow (talk) 13:56, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove quick deletion tags from articles, as you did to "Jebel Sahaba", without a good reason. If you think the article should not be deleted, please add {{wait}} to the article and explain your reason on the article's talk page. Thank you. Advice

change

When you create articles (or bring them over from English Wikipedia) you need to make sure it is correct. All of your articles are missing vital portions. These include:

  • References
  • Stub template
  • They need to be on topic and related to exactly the subject and not go to something else nor should they be left as is. They need to be simplified.
  • All articles need an introduction. Earlier you created List of wars: before 1000 as well as adding a talk page template on the article, which caused issues and has been since removed.
  • Infoboxes can be copied over as-is from en wiki without issue, as long as you attribute it in the change summary. Before you save anything, please click on preview and make sure there are no issues and any images show (en wiki can store their own images, however, we have to use the ones from commons).
  • Always check your spelling and grammar. I am not sure where you live, but you can get dictionaries downloaded to check what you have written. On the Nataruk article, you will see I fixed the spelling errors and brought over the info box. I also added some tags on what needs to be done.

This is a great how-to for you to look at. You can also look at this administrators talk page for various links on how we do things on this wiki. This is also a really good piece of work for you to look at as well User:Auntof6/Things I would like Wikipedia editors to know.

My goal is to try to help you become a good editor here on simple. It is not to try to push you away as it is a learning experience. If you have any questions, you can always post them on my talk page or on Simple Talk (you may get a faster answer on Simple Talk if I am not around). Oh and btw, you can just call me PotsdamLamb or PDL. You don't need to add the I won't eat you bit. Thanks. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 13:12, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

How to add barnstars to others

change

Please add them to user talk pages rather than user pages. In general, many users don't want others to edit their userpage, please remember this. MathXplore (talk) 14:51, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

User Pages

change

Thank you for the barn star, however, never edit a user's page. Always put it on their talk page. You can re-add it to my talk page and I will move it over if you like. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:52, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I understand both of you. There are a lot of things to learn 😅 Colonelsnow (talk) 15:14, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Article Deleted

change

Looks like Simple Wiki deleted what PDL requested a quick deletion for. But it's alright. I've created another newer and different article about Jebel Sahaba. I hope it's alright now... Image, Common liscenced; infobox, check; citations, check; titles, maybe check, ... Colonelsnow (talk) 05:32, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make helpful changes to the encyclopedia. You may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to keep the encyclopedia looking neat and professional. Using different styles in the encyclopedia, as you did to "Arnhem Land", can make it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about changing this encyclopedia. Thank you. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 15:59, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not make bad pages, such as Talk:Turkana County. Doing so is against our rules. If you would like to test, please use the sandbox. Thank you. You’ve been asked numerous times by myself and others to not post on talk pages asking other people to do the work for you. If someone is interested in adding things to the articles, then they will. No one needs your permission or you telling them to post anything in an article. You are very close to project disruption. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:04, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb Deleted the talk page message. Thanks. Colonelsnow (talk) 16:28, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Checked the sandbox out. Looks really like a park sandbox where you can randomly create things without officially publishing. Colonelsnow (talk) 14:05, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
And now I fully understand. There is a Simple Wiki 'language', where there is appropriate hard/easy english, and words that need to be changed into a 'basic' way; more basically. So Simple Wiki is more like Basical & Typical Word Usage Wikipedia. Colonelsnow (talk) 14:08, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Using Wikipedia as a source

change

Hi. I wanted to let you know we do not link to en wiki articles as they are harder for our audience to comprehend. Also, using Wikipedia as a source for an article is not something that should be done as the information constantly changes. Please go find a new source for your article that is not wiki based and replace the original one. I have not reverted it as the other things are ok unless you copy and pasted from en wiki. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 12:44, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb Thanks for the notice. I'll find another source if I can. Colonelsnow (talk) 12:49, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not needed

change

Hey! Please be careful of what you do. The post you made at User talk:Wuvixx was not necessary. The editor joined 9 years ago and has not edited since. Please stick to just article content and updating the content before you start getting in trouble. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 06:26, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb Understood. I deleted the message. Thanks. Colonelsnow (talk) 09:01, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please don’t….

change

I removed the big blue message you had at the top of the article Bernard Baruch. We have templates that get used for certain things and that is not an article template. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:52, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb
Okay,I'll use templates from now on that should definitely match their purpose and meaning. Thanks for deleting. Colonelsnow (talk) 16:04, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Giving advice

change

Please refrain from giving advice to other users at this time. You are new and looking at what you have posted to others, is completely wrong. If you have any concerns or questions, please post it to simple talk. One such example is when you told someone they cannot have a sandbox and they needed to use the main space and then double-downed by adding the statement that they don’t own the article when there was no signs of them doing so. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 04:05, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I remember the time I stated that they can't own articles, but as the other users described my mistake, I understood that I was wrongdoing. I think that was in Split view mountain lodge. The other accusation from you that I said that people can't have a sandbox, I think that's not me. Probably you mistook either @Colonelsnow to User:Colonelsnow, or one of my statements as another meaning. Please double-check.
Thanks. Colonelsnow (talk) 04:28, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Despite my statement of defence, I will still refrain from giving advice. Colonelsnow (talk) 04:31, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wanted to see how you are doing and if you have any questions. I can always take you as a mentor as well. Let me know. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 06:34, 19 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Understood.

RfD nomination of List of wars in history

change

An editor has requested deletion of List of wars in history, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the page meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/List of wars in history and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the page during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the page; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Batrachoseps (talk) 00:41, 7 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
