Ferien WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023. 😎🤗🥳 YIEWI talk 18:23, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

Block on recent user
I appreciate your immediate action on a suddenly new-created account block but you could have particularly added the cause of the block "Bad name" along with "Vandalism-only account". Can you explain? Dibyojyotilet's chat 11:28, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi DRC-B5, that account had created a bad page at Noyyal River and I thought that that page along with the username showed the account was clearly not here to contribute and was a vandalism-only account. I could have added about a bad username in the block reason but that wasn't the only reason I blocked the account, it was a combination of the two issues. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 11:30, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
- Uh now that's make sense. You deleted the page which makes me confused about the person with bad name doesn't have the contributions and has been blocked because of Vandalism. Great work. Dibyojyotilet's chat 11:33, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
Vandalism
hello, I want to report the vandalism that User Hoyanova is doing on the page Davide Lo Surdo. 91.80.12.159 (talk) 16:26, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- They simply added a delete tag but the article wasn't eligible for deletion under our quick deletion policy. That isn't vandalism, and it was only one edit that I had already reviewed. --Ferien (talk) 16:28, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- when i created the page, i asked to the [[User:InfernoGaming46]] if the page was good for Wikipedia and he told me yes.
- Lo Surdo won an award and it does meet the notability criteria.
- After this, the user fixed it with simple english. I suppose the page is good. 91.80.12.159 (talk) 16:31, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Please note that discussion here will not affect whether the page is deleted or not. All discussion regarding the subject's notability should be posted to the RfD, at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/Davide Lo Surdo. Thank you. --Ferien (talk) 16:38, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- User:Ferien I am sorry for disturb but i would like to ask you something.
- i read the notability criteria “Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show” and lo surdo played on DBCNEWS which is a notable television program from Bangladesh [1] which it also has a page on en wikipedia.
- does this meet the notability criteria? let me know so i will add it on his page. thanks in advance 91.80.0.39 (talk) 18:52, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- hello, it’s okay. i just added some new content about international tours now. could you kindly watch it and see if they are okay? Thanks 91.80.12.159 (talk) 16:48, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia translation of the week: 2023-02
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! Zakia Khudadadi also spelt as Zakia Khodadadi (Pashto: ذکیه خدادادی; born 29 September 1998) is an Afghan parataekwondo practitioner. She is the first Afghan female taekwondo practitioner. She rose to prominence after winning the African International Parataekwondo Championship in 2016 at the age of 18. She represented Afghanistan at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. She was initially denied the opportunity to compete at her maiden Paralympics due to the Taliban takeover but she was later allowed by the International Paralympic Committee to compete in the event after being safely evacuated from Afghanistan. She was able to compete and became the first Afghan female Paralympic competitor to compete at the Paralympics after 17 years since Mareena Karim's participation at the 2004 Summer Paralympics. She also officially became the first Afghan female sportsperson to participate in an international sporting event after the Taliban takeover. Evolution
OK, I'll step back from this page. It's open to you to get someone suitable from En wiki to review the page in question. I know the literature, and the last version I edited has nothing unusual in it, and is a sound account. Macdonald-ross (talk) 10:01, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Macdonald-ross, I'll review the edit again later on, but I believe that there were a couple of copyedits along with an unnecessary change from British to American English. I'll let you know what changes I'm considering keeping from that edit on the talk page. --Ferien (talk) 20:28, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- The only controversial edits I made on the page were spelling changes, mainly because there was not standardized British or American spelling on the page. Both were used, no preference was given anywhere.
- All the other edits were simple copy edits for clarity, correctness, grammar, etc. I've never had any issues with my copy edits on the regular wiki. No content was changed or modified. 71.11.5.2 (talk) 21:04, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- 71.11.5.2, most of your changes were retained. As far as I can tell, the article was mostly in British English before, and you generally changed it to American English. It should stay as British. Lights and freedom (talk) 21:48, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

- You can use tags to filter edits in the recent changes feed or on your watchlist. You can now use tags to filter out edits you don't want to see. Previously you could only use tags to focus on the edits with those tags. [2]
- Special:WhatLinksHere shows all pages that link to a specific page. There is now a prototype for how to sort those pages alphabetically. You can see the discussion in the Phabricator ticket.
- You can now use the thanks function on your watchlist and the user contribution page. [3]
- A wiki page can be moved to give it a new name. You can now get a dropdown menu with common reasons when you move a page. This is so you don't have to write the explanation every time. [4]
- Matrix is a chat tool. You can now use
matrix:
to create Matrix links on wiki pages. [5] - You can filter out translations when you look at the recent changes on multilingual wikis. This didn't hide translation pages. You can now also hide subpages which are translation pages. [6]

Wikipedia translation of the week: 2023-03
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! The Léopoldville riots were an outbreak of civil disorder in Léopoldville (modern-day Kinshasa) in the Belgian Congo which took place in January 1959 and which were an important moment for the Congolese independence movement. The rioting occurred when members of the Alliance des Bakongo (ABAKO) political party were not allowed to assemble for a protest and colonial authorities reacted harshly. The exact death toll is not known, but at least 49 people were killed and total casualties may have been as high as 500. Following these riots, a round table conference was organized in Brussels to negotiate the terms of Congo's independence, The Congo received its independence on 30 June 1960, becoming the Republic of the Congo. Problems
- The URLs in "last" links on page history now contain
diff=prev&oldid=[revision ID]
in place ofdiff=[revision ID]&oldid=[revision ID]
. This is to fix a problem with links pointing to incorrect diffs when history was filtered by a tag. Some user scripts may break as a result of this change. [7]

. They will continue to be unavailable in non-talk namespaces, includingWikipedia:
pages (e.g., at the Village Pump). You can change your preferences (beta feature). [8] - On Wikisources, when an image is zoomed or panned in the Page: namespace, the same zoom and pan settings will be remembered for all Page: namespace pages that are linked to a particular Index: namespace page. Bot
hello @Ferien-san i have a bot that i want to run it on simplewiki; i use the bot to balance/add categories on articles corresponding with english wikipedia i've already used it on three projects (check its contributions) is it possible to get approval on simplewiki to perform some tasks? 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 19:40, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Sakura emad, there has been a consensus in the past not to use bots to add categories on this project. However, if there are other tasks you want to run, you can post a request on WT:BOTS, to allow other bureaucrats to comment. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 21:11, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- oh i see, categorization was my only purpose, thanks ^_^ 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 22:00, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown
What happened at MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown? Why is there a redlink to an RfD for that page? Lights and freedom (talk) 18:38, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- When an administrator is about to delete a page, these options all come up. There is a redlink to an RfD on that page because when an RfD closes with a consensus to delete, a dropdown option is given to delete because of an RfD. The current year has to be substituted as well as the RfD linked to the page of that name, (shown as {{FULLPAGENAME}}), that is why there is an RfD there saying Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown. --Ferien (talk) 18:44, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

If your wiki would prefer to do it yourselves, please see the details and example CSS to copy from, and also add your wiki to the list. Otherwise, the developers will directly help out starting the week of February 5.
