New pages

change

Hi J 1982, thanks for your new pages. They are okay, but I noticed some 'wikifying' needs to be done for example: [1] Please make sure an article is of a decent quality before moving onto creating another one. Quality not quantity ;-) See you around! Kennedy (talk) 15:23, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK. J 1982 (talk) 19:34, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I see Osiris already asked you to look at quality, not just quantity. When you create new town articles, can you try to write at least a little bit more information about each town, please? Also, use the {{geo-stub}} tag as I added it to Oxelösund. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 22:45, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK, but I created template:Sweden-geo-stub. J 1982 (talk) 22:51, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Please do not use sweden-geo-stub. Stubs need to be approved. See Wikipedia:Simple_Stub_Project. Please change them all back to geo-stub. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 23:16, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I asked for allowing it at Wikipedia:Simple_Stub_Project (I had now idea they needed discussion first). We can removed it if that fails. J 1982 (talk) 23:28, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your articles on Swedish towns

change

Thank you for the new articles on Swedish towns. Although towns and other settlements are considered notable enough to have articles, we normally prefer not to have a lot of these articles created with so little information in them. It would be helpful if you would include more information in each one. That could be something about interesting things in the town, something about its history, etc. It would also be good to include population information and geographic coordinates. If you aren't going to put more information in the articles, maybe you could make a list article instead of having separate articles. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 01:15, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I try to ad some info about history, sports, important buildings and other stuff. J 1982 (talk) 08:18, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Category:Counties of Sweden

change

Hello again. You probably didn't know, but here on Simple English Wikipedia we want at least three entries in each new category. This category that you created has only two. Do you plan to add more entries to the category? --Auntof6 (talk) 20:23, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for informing. I have added more articles now. J 1982 (talk) 21:19, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great -- thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 23:05, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Category:Municipalities of Sweden

change

Please look at these changes that I made to this category. The template {{Main}} is more for articles, so I changed it to the one for categories. Template {{commonscat-inline}} is also for articles, so I changed it to the standard commons category template. I made these same changes to the other category you created, Category:Counties of Sweden. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:54, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK. J 1982 (talk) 09:18, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Swedish municipality articles -- some need DEFAULTSORT added

change

Hi, and thanks for all the articles on the Swedish municipalities. You might not know, but any page (article, category, etc.) that has diacritics in the title should have a defaultsort specified. For example, Skellefteå Municipality should have the following in the article, right before the categories:

Notice that the character with the accent/diacritic mark on it has been replaced with the corresponding character from the English alphabet.

Please go back and put a DEFAULTSORT in each of the existing articles that need them, and be sure to put them in future articles. If it's easier, you can one them in all the articles, because it doesn't hurt to have one when it isn't really needed. Thanks. Let me know if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:55, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. J 1982 (talk) 11:02, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 19:14, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I need to explain this a little more. It's not just the defaultsort that needs the diacritics removed, it's any sort key. Sometimes sort keys are specified on an individual category, and those need to have the diacritics changed, too. For example, on Diocese of Västerås, for Category:Dioceses of the Church of Sweden, there is a sort key "Västerås". That should be "Vasteras". I'm sorry I didn't explan that better before. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:56, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK. Fixed. J 1982 (talk) 20:45, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again! --Auntof6 (talk) 20:47, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Another note -- Commons category tags

change

When you include a Commons category tag in an article, please make sure that it points to an existing Commons category, and to the correct one. I just finished simplifying all the Swedish municipality articles, and I noticed that their Commons links don't all point to the right place. Wikimedia Commons may or may not have a category for any given subject. If it does have one, it might not be named the same as the Wikipedia article. You have to check.

Please go back to these articles and check the Commons tags. It might help to look at Commons:Category:Municipalities in Sweden to see what the subcategory names are there. The main difference seems to be that, on Commons, some of the categories include the word "municipality" and some don't. There's probably a reason for that, but I don't know what it is. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:40, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

It seems like someone has confused the municipalities with the seats. J 1982 (talk) 09:44, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Maybe, maybe not. Let's not assume that. I looked at one of the ones without "municipality". It was categorized as a municipality. I didn't look to see if the seat had its own category. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:47, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Articles

change

Hello, J 1982. I think you need to slow down your creation of new articles. If you're going to be creating that many pages, then there needs to be nothing that needs immediate fixing on them. Have a look at the changes being made to the pages after you create them, and then match those changes the next time you create a similar page. I would also like to see at least one reference on each of these articles about bands. Osiris (talk) 07:47, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK, I've slowed down now. J 1982 (talk) 09:45, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Appendices

change

Hi again. Just a reminder to use "Other websites" in your appendices, not "External links". Thanks, Osiris (talk) 20:07, 13 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Forgot that. Right now I'm not very active here. J 1982 (talk) 17:08, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Locality

change

Hi J. I'm just letting you know that I thought changing "locality" in the opening line of these articles to "urban area" was a good idea. en:Urban areas in Sweden says it's a common translation, and it's a bit simpler and more specific in my opinion. I've assumed you don't have an issue with it, but if you disagree pleas let me know. Osiris (talk) 06:50, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's OK. However, one problem is that we have categories for both towns and cities in Sweden. Administrative-wise, that was abolished in 1971. J 1982 (talk) 11:55, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay. We should probably delete the "cities" and "towns" categories and recategorise them by county instead. Osiris (talk) 12:05, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Okay, that's done. There were quite a few where the text stated the wrong county, so I had to check them all individually while editing. One more thing: I'm wondering why you moved Avesta to Avesta (religious scripture)...? The scripture is by far the primary topic for that title in English. You only have to type "Avesta" into Google to see that (not taking into account the local preferences that may be affecting results in the Swedish Google). Osiris (talk) 11:43, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I moved because I saw the religion has only circa 250 000 followers. J 1982 (talk) 12:02, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I see. What does that have to do with the primary topic though? We should focus on common usage, I should think. Osiris (talk) 12:15, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK. If so, you can move the article name to Avesta, Sweden. J 1982 (talk) 12:23, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Done. Osiris (talk) 12:37, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ursäkta.

August 2014

change

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Mats Rådberg" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 19:24, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion of Erica Sjöström

December 2014

change

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Tegnér barn" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. Settlement articles

change

Thanks for your recent new articles on Swedish settlements. A couple of things: first, the word inhabitants is complex. Instead of saying "It had 1 871 inhabitants in 2010" (as it says in Bollstabruk), it would be better mention the population by saying something like "In 2010, 1,871 people lived there." (A sentence shouldn't start with a number.) If you do use the word inhabitants or population, please link it.

The other thing is about formatting numbers. Numbers greater than 999 should be formatted with commas, not spaces or periods. See the example in the paragraph above. You used spaces in some of your articles.

Please go back and take care of these issues in the articles you created. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:12, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've begun using your suggestions now. Maybe we can use a bot to change the older ones? J 1982 (talk) 21:38, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. We might be able to do a mass change on the others. Do you have a way we can identify them? Maybe a list, or a category they're all in? --Auntof6 (talk) 23:26, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Category:Settlements in Sweden (with undercategories). J 1982 (talk) 23:28, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I just went through them and changed all the ones that had "inhabitants" in the text. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:17, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Royal Chapel

change

Not a good title as it stands, because all royal houses have such. Suggest either include in Stockholm Palace or move title to Royal Chapel (Stockholm). Macdonald-ross (talk) 13:15, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

If so, it should be moved to Royal Chapel (Stockholm). But that problem doesn't come until the day we get more articles about other royal chapels. J 1982 (talk) 13:18, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
We should think ahead. En wiki has a huge disambig page, and reserves 'Royal chapel' for the general concept. We often follow them in such cases because it makes the job of later editors simper. (In English they are called Chapel Royal, but many of our readers do not know that.) I see En wiki has Royal Chapel (Sweden), but in most countries there is more than one royal chapel. Macdonald-ross (talk) 13:32, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
change

Hi, J. I was just looking at new categories. I saw that you included Commons links in the new categories you created -- thanks for that! I often forget to do that myself. I just wanted to mention that in categories it's better to use the standard, right-justified form of the sister project links, instead of the inline forms. Please use the standard forms when you create more categories. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 08:12, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and you don't need to include the {{Cat main}} template if the article doesn't exist. Thanks again! --Auntof6 (talk) 08:12, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Given name pages

change

Hi, J 1982. Thanks for creating the given name pages Ann-Louise and Emélie. I just wanted to let you know that when the only content in a page is a list of people who have the same given name, that page is not a disambiguation page (also called "dab page"). To be a dab page, it would need to also have one or both of the following:

  • Things that are called by the name alone, such as movies, songs, ships, settlements, etc. If there are enough of these things, there can be separate dab and given name pages, and the dab page links to the given name page.
  • People with the given name who either don't have a surname or don't use one. Examples of given name pages that are also dab pages are Mary and Mahmood.

This is also true for surname pages. I removed the disambiguation tag from these two pages. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:19, 2 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Category setup

change

Hi again, J1982. Please take a look at the sections above called Category:Counties of Sweden, Category:Municipalities of Sweden, and Swedish municipality articles -- some need DEFAULTSORT added. Some of your new categories still have the issues mentioned there. Specifically:

  • It's best to use the non-inline form of the Commons templates.
  • Please use the {{catmain}} template instead of {{main}} in categories.
  • If the category names has a diacritic in it, please include a defaultsort that does not include any diacritics.

Also, when you have a {{catmain}} template the page mentioned usually should be in the category itself, with a sort key of a space.

Please remember these, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 07:13, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Maritime sci-fi

change

Hello, dear J 1982, please have a look at Maritime science fiction on Simple English Wiki which has been created. I tell you because it's been blocked on the main English Wiki. But this time I created it with reliable sources that mention specifically mention the term. Also on the main English Wiki, the List of maritime science fiction works seems to be renamed even all the reliable sources on Simple English Wiki clearly mention Maritime science fiction as the genre. Feel free to look into it. I unfortunately can do little about it because I was constantly stalked and annoyed by genre trolls. They were the ones who got these maritime science fiction pages and categories repeatedly deleted. Because of this I no longer edit English Wiki and Wiki projects in general because of those trolls always following me everywhere and getting me blocked. i wish you the best of luck. From your dear friend.

Sorry I forgot to mention that if you ever wish to re-create that article on Wikipedia, you'll need to contact an admin and tell them to unlock. All the reliable sources for these article are on the Simple English Wiki entries. They specifically use Maritime science fiction as a term. Good luck to you.
Actually the fastest way to do it is to submit it as draft on main English Wiki. The draft will then be approved for publication. No need to contact an admin. You just cannot create it manually because it's blocked. Best of wishes to you.--Taeyebar (talk) 23:32, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
