Hi

change

Would you mind awfully not using Simple English Wikipedia as a forum for your complaints about en.wp? They're rather distracting and off topic, when we're trying to make an encyclopedia. In particular, I don't think the Wikipedia:Simple talk page is the place for you to give us news of your en.wp activities. Thanks for your understanding, and have a nice day! Userboxes

change

Hi,

I remember talking to you when you first joined about it being a good idea to keep political views off your userpage. We have a userbox policy over here which means no userboxes other than "babel boxes" and Wikimedia-related ones can be created. As you haven't actually created any new userboxes (you just used the existing template to make one), we won't remove them if you don't want, but I think it might be a good idea. Stuff like playing the guitar is fine, it's just when people of radically different political views come along and start judging you before they've even spoken to you. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 08:35, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

David g.

change

Hello once again, Ionas. I was wondering why you created the account David g. Voting with that account on the requests for deletion page is abusing sockpuppets. Please refrain from creating accounts like this. --Isis§(talk) 23:48, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not trying to add and get you in trouble, but I must point out... you did sockpuppeteer, and you are very similar to User:S-man, who knows a lot and claims to be a kid. --:::::::::Lizix::::::::: (u · t · c) 00:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just one question... explain your wide and such keen language skills? And such political knowledge? --:::::::::Lizix::::::::: (u · t · c) 01:34, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wait a minute, his userpage history and all was deleted... how would you know that he started reading at two? --:::::::::Lizix::::::::: (u · t · c) 02:01, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
She actually brings up a very interesting point and your answer to it on her talk page causes a problem. You say you got the info from his en:talk pages, but S-man's en:wp pages (user and talk) were deleted prior to being tagged as indef blocks. No existing version of either of them list the personal data you are listing. How exactly could you know this info without access to the deleted pages? -- Creol(talk) 06:00, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
An on this note, I do appologize. The information of him reading at two was indeed on the talk current talk page. I somehow missed it when reading through the page. -- Creol(talk)

Testing admins

change

Dear Ionas,

You told Isis that you created this sockpuppet account (which you used for double-voting in two Requests for Deletion) "to test how admins deal with vandalism". There are a few things I want you to note:

  1. In my personal point of view, abusing Wikipedia through sockpuppets is a little different from simple vandalism. Indeed, it can be categorized as disruption. So what you have already tested is how admins react to abuse of Wikipedia, not simple vandalism.
  2. We have a guideline, which prohibits us from doing such tests. You can read it on en:WP:POINT; it is not yet moved to Simple English Wikipedia, but I'm sure you won't have any problem reading and understanding the English Wikipedia version, as you are a native English speaker.
As you read there, it is not a good idea to prove a point (for example, the quality of reaction of administrators against vandalism) experimentally. "These activities are generally disruptive", it reads.
  3. The fact that you knew what you where doing, is both good and bad. It is good because it means you didn't do it with bad-faith. It is bad, at the same time, because it reveals that you know what sockpuppets are, and what they shouldn't be used for, yet you double-voted with your second account in two RfDs.

I didn't write that whole to you to punish you or push you in any way. All I need to make sure of, is that you fully understand why what you did is not acceptable; then you are supposed not to do it again. Best, - Huji reply 06:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The account has been indefinitely blocked. This is really serious. From now on, I do not want you to create any more accounts, for testing or anything else. If you want to see whether something works, ask an admin or another user to try it out. Archer7 - talk 09:48, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, a lecture from yours truly:

Although I think Huji's point is loud and clear, I want to add something:

  1. Doppledanger accounts are VERY annoying.
  1. Why not just watch the vandalism?
  1. Have anymore sockpuppets?
  1. Take off the personal information from your userpage. At the rate of which you learn, I'm sure you've seen Dateline's To Catch a Predator.

If you ever, EVER, create an account again, I will request a block. Also you are very similar to the User:Kimberly Ashton. Adding a bunch of personal information, creating socks to test admins, and after doing all of this, wanting to become one. I'm not writing anything to punish you either, but just don't push it ;). --:::::::::Lizix::::::::: (u · t · c) 19:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ya know, she was 14, and her userpage got deleted BECAUSE she posted her info. Just don't mention your last name and remove the Las Vegas. That's all. --:::::::::Lizix::::::::: (u · t · c) 21:40, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Do not lie to you? What do you mean? Just please, maintain a lower level of personal info, just to play it safe... okay?--:::::::::Lizix::::::::: (u · t · c) 16:52, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Two comments

change

Dear Ionas, I hope you're doing fine, and I wish to comment two things to you, if you don't mind:

  1. I see you were bold, and archived the Simple Talk threads, That's excellent, and I encourage you to keep doing it; but please, try to be a little more careful in the future. You archived sections that are under discussion, and active right now, including one where Huji, Creol and me had posted just hours ago, and that is far from resolved yet. Again, archiving is necessary, and must be done, so please keep doing it; just check for the date and time of the posts, next time, k, dear?
  2. I saw yesterday that you imported a template from EnWP, Template:Pro-wres-stub. This is a specific stub-type template, and I believe we only use a generic type as of now, Template:Stub. Moving to specific types of stubs templates is a big step indeed, that would require discussion, and the creation of many categories. While we may be in need of taking such a move (or not), it certainly requires to be brought upon the attention of the community. Would you mind posting about your request at Simple Talk before taking actions as these, please?

I hope you're having a beautiful Summer. Have a nice day, Phaedriel - 08:11, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is just another comment about archiving: When I archive something, I go back some time (usually a month, but it does not really matter how long), and then I select all the discussion up to that point (eg. the last of the previous month) to archive. Pages only get bad once they reach over 32kb in size. In terms of simple talk that is between 20 and 30 comment threads (headings). Be careful when you pick the date too, it is confusing that at one time, the archive goes until the tenth of the month, and another it goes until the fifteenth. So far, monthly archives seem to have been enough, for simple talk. We might however switch to twice-a-month archives. --Eptalon 20:50, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your essay on Wikipedia

change

I have now deleted your essay on Wikipedia (User:Ionas68224/Wikipedia). I can see where you are coming from, and you should be able to talk about Wikipedia's problems, but saying things like that is not acceptable and you know it. Please remember that although this is a community website, it is not our website. The Wikimedia Foundation and Jimbo Wales control it absolutely (and so they should in my opinion). Wikipedia is not a democracy, it never will be, and it never should be. A project like this simply wouldn't work. This is not your website, it is a website owned, operated and controlled by the Wikimedia Foundation, not the community. If you write a message in one of my notebooks for example, I have the right to get rid of it if I don't like it, and your free speech rights do not apply - you wrote it on my stuff.

Insulting Jimbo Wales isn't going to get you anywhere, it will just get you blocked. You mention that admins that abuse their powers should be blocked - I've blocked an admin before, and I know of it happening many times on EN.

You have sent abusive emails to administrators on the English Wikipedia, and you have posted this here for the same reason - because you think you can get away with it. I notice that you didn't post it on EN. You have caused disruption both on here and on EN. This has got to stop right now. This is your only warning before blocking, any further disruption and that's it.

Wikimedia projects work together very closely, and I know of your activities on EN. I have tried to be patient with you and see if you can work here without similar problems where other projects would have simply blocked you, but this is not right. You know this is not acceptable, and you've done it anyway. Archer7 - talk 22:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Legally, Wikipedia is owned by the WMF, they just let you edit it. It is their website. I don't own it, you don't own it. This stuff has to stop. Archer7 - talk 23:10, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Nevada wiki/No thanks

change

Just because I live in Nevada does not mean I am interested in writing about it; nor does it obligate me to do so, or to join anyone's project. The attitude I see reflected in your messages and on this page suggests you've got some kinks to work out in your sense of yes-and-no and mine-and-yours, not to mention in how to approach or deal with elders and others. Good luck. Zephyrad 06:34, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lizix

change

Ionas! I think that you'll be extremely interested to know that Lizix was blocked. But it isn't so much the fact that she was blocked as to WHY she was blocked.
She was blocked because she was a sockpuppet of another user, called Kimberly Ashton.
I went and looked at Kimberly's page, and she was blocked as well! But she was blocked because of brace yourself RELEASING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF PERSONAL INFORMATION. I know she was "telling you off" because of you releasing personal information, but apparently she didn't practice what she was preechinng.
Just thought you might find this interesting :)

Thanks for your message, and first of all, I'd like to apologise for not being active non Nevadawiki. I wish I could tell you that I was bogged down with work or was stressed out, but the truth it that I'd just found my fathers old airgun and I've been out with it every day for hours shooting at cans and things.

I'm sorry to hear about your block here but I'm not familiar with checkuser rules, so I can't judge anyone on that particular field. The only things I can say in response to your message is that your freedom of speech problems are not restricted to only your wiki pages. I saw on the news the other day that someone (a marked racist) shouted out racist slogans bringing down black people, Jews, homosexuals and women. When he was booked and brought up to court for "disturbing the peace", he appealing saying he was exercising his freedom of speech. This brought up much contriversy as it was a valid arguement and the man should have been able to say what he supported and though.

So, Ionas, you are not alone.

Again, I'm sorry about being inactive on Nevadawiki and I will help write articles there. I'm planning on doing more for the economy article next, which I'd already started but left unfinished.

RE: Disruption

change

Thanks for leaving me a message about this, it's good to see that you're willing to talk. I do not believe that you are a troll, but it's the "not thinking" that worries me. I agree that sometimes people do stupid things, and on many occasions we've let people back in and dismissed the past. I have actually already seen what you posted on Meta, and unfortunately it doesn't give me confidence that you're able to work here - I've tried to explain to you via talk pages and email about why things are like this, and why that attitude had to stop, but I didn't mean just stop happening here, I meant everywhere. You obviously still stand by your beliefs, but those beliefs really aren't going to work here, and I'm really worried about that.

You seem intent on "pushing the boundaries" to see what will happen, but I'm afraid you're pushing them a bit too far - anything else now, anywhere and you'd probably be permanently banned. We just don't have the time to deal with you.

Now, you have also done some excellent work. I'm happy for you to continue working here if it stops (everywhere). Now we've both said a lot, so here's what I'd like to happen:

  • No more testing. Anywhere. You've been here a while now and probably know quite a bit about how we work, so testing what we do isn't actually that "forgivable" any more, it is completely unacceptable. It wastes a lot our time, and we actually have important things to deal with.
  • No more King Jimbo Must Die/EN Admins Are Evil stuff. Jimbo/the Board control Wikipedia, and it's not going to change. I'm afraid if you are unable to work on a site controlled like that, you'll have to go. You mentioned before that you came here to escape Jimbo Wales - he's got just as much power over here, so I hope that attitude has changed. Most of the things you say about EN admins just isn't true. You should take a close look at what you get from sites critical of Wikipedia, and what you have actually seen for yourself - is it all true? Admins make mistakes too, and as you say, we need to be forgiving and accept things like that.
  • If you have a dispute, talk to those involved, not random outsiders. Take a look at what you posted about me. Someone said: "It looks like he blocked him and then blocked all his wikifriends as well" - you know now (hopefully!) that the blocks I did after yours were justified, and unrelated. Why did that person say it? Because he had no knowledge of what had really happened, and. You should always speak to people involved if you have a problem, they can most likely sort it out with you.
  • No more accounts, for any purpose. Although it is normally OK for Wikipedians to have sockpuppets (as long as they are not abusive), I'm afraid we no longer trust you with any more accounts after the David.g thing. Ask an admin first if you'd like to make one for some special reason.

I'd like to see you carry on working well here, like you were before this whole mess, but you'll need to stick to all of those (as well as your common sense) if you'd like to continue here. Please, take a look at what you're saying and what I've said as well - your current attitudes just aren't going to work here. We can't waste any more time clearing up after your "tests". That imaging thing

change

Yes, I know that the recent change in policy announced on Simple Talk is not a consensus vote. Its a decision which had to be taken quickly, given the facts. There was no time for a one-week consensus process. It was discussed among the admins, who all agree there. Sorry, there are times where democracy does not work. --Eptalon 10:27, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ionas, I know that you do not agree with this change, but I'm asking you to remove the IP address from your userpage - IPs give out a lot more information than you might think, especially when you link it into other information. You don't have to remove it, but I would strongly recommend it. In the past, young users have been targeted. You said on Simple talk "My age is 11 and that does not make me prone to harassment" - I'm afraid it does. I hope you can understand that I'm not doing this because I'm fanatical about protecting children and stopping them doing anything on the Internet, I don't like doing it at all. I'm only asking people to do this because there is currently a problem here and we want to protect people. Archer7 - talk 11:20, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
That small amount of your IP is not a risk at all, the other numbers could be anything, and that includes thousands of IPs (65,536, to be precise). There is no chance of you being tracked. I can still change your name if you would like me too, but there honestly is no need over that. I'm afraid I am unable to give you recent examples of stalking for safety reasons, to protect our editors from whoever may be watching. Sometimes it helps to be one step ahead and not reveal what you know. Archer7 - talk 20:16, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
