Rollback

I have granted you rollback, please read the policy page and the help page on meta. Take care with it. You can only use it for rollback, in your own userspace, and for non-controversial edits you yourself made in error. fr33kman 23:01, 30 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much fr33kman, I promise I will take good care of the rights. Orashmatash (tc) 23:02, 30 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Fr33kman, I'll try it out. I haven't had a chance to use it yet because #cvn-simplewikis isn't showing all the recent changes, so it's harder to spot vandals. Thanks, Orashmatash (tc) 08:34, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

User box UserSteward

Just FYI, I added a template category to this userbox. If you'd like a category that would be added to each page that uses the box (maybe Category:Wikimedia Stewards), feel free to add it or let me know and I'll add it. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:44, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for that Auntof6, I added the same category to the rest of my created userboxes. No need to change the category; it's fine as-is. Adding the <noinclude> thing totally slipped my mind, so again, thanks for that. Thanks, --Orashmatash 20:50, 10 October 2011 (UTC) I like... Wikipedia!Reply
OK. I didn't mean to change the category, I meant to add one. It could help you find all the people using the template. Not a big deal, though, the template category is more important, IMO. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:53, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I just created the steward template 10 minutes ago, so nobody will be using it, I don't think. I think the only other person using the UserScottish template would be Normandy, and I think I'm the only one using the AntiFascist one, so I think we're fine. --Orashmatash 20:55, 10 October 2011 (UTC) I like... Patrolling

Yes, I see you are making a big difference here: well done! In my opinion, this is one of the basic duties: in this wiki we have quite a few young users, and they often need supervising. Patrolling their first few pages is very helpful. Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:31, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re:Unequivocal support for Goblin

You're fairly new to this Wiki. You might understand where I'm coming from had you been around a little longer...like how Goblin has cussed out most of this wiki at one point or another, or how he been indeffed blocked a couple of times until he came groveling back. That's why I take the position I take. I believe the wiki would work just fine without him Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 18:17, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I know PBP. The main reason I have support for him is because I had quite a large argument with him in the past, which I realised I could not win, given the fact that he always gets the support of Admins. So, to prevent the same thing happening, I never support the people who keep the arguments alive. Of course, it could be different if an attempt was actually made to sort it out instead of constantly opening topics about it. I have been made well aware of Goblin's slip-ups, and have therefore made an educated decision to support him. If you want to see the argument I had with him, check his talk page's last archive. I would really appreciate it, PBP, if an effort was made to sort it out. Goblin's nice if you can talk to him without starting an argument. I hope this gets sorted. I would have supported you and AJona if an effort was made to make nice, but since there hasn't been, my support remains with Goblin. Of course, if you would be willing to at least try sorting it out, my vote would most likely change. Kindest Regards, Orashmatash (talk) 18:24, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
why are you going to back down because of an argument? I see it did work because the two of you are buddies, however, if someone provokes you then fight back. Of course, that's what I did and was subsequently blocked because of my childish behavior (gloat). Just by saying he "gets the support of Admins" is a weak argument. Just because they are admins, doesn't mean the community should act foolish and disrupt the working together environment, if admins-alike does not take swift action that's on them. BTW, I did start a convo with Goblin nicely and professionally instead he provoked it and instead brought his attitude in his reply. For you to say that I did not says a lot about who you choose to support. I rather stand on my own knowing whats right then to stick with a million people who can work around the system and know that what I do is wrong. Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 18:33, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
The fact that Goblin gets the support of admins was only a small part of my argument. The reason I am "backing down" so to speak, is because Goblin is better to have as a friend than an enemy. He knows the processes, and I have said it before and will stay it again; I will not support you, or anyone who reports Goblin, until an attempt is made to sort the problem out. That's all I have to say, and I will continue to say it as long as the issue remains apparent. I am sick of people reporting Goblin when I simple apology could sort everything out. And, when you say you talked to Goblin "nicely and professionally", I don't see it that way at all. I have seen the convo you had with him, and the line "I guess you're the main head at GA", would come across to me as a sneer. If you want my support, just apologise to him properly, and, if he doesn't forgive you, you and PBP get my support. Sound fair? Orashmatash (talk) 17:45, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey. I notice you've used WP as a ref on Bipod. I'm not particularly comfortable with this, because it's by no means a reliable source (also see en:WP:CIRCULAR). Is there any other source you could possibly use to reference that information?

Categories

Hello Orashmatash. Just a quick note about you adding categories to various pages. For instance, you just added "Animals" to Horse, but that already has "Horses" as a category, which itself is a sub-category of Equids which itself is a sub-category of Odd-toed ungulates, which itself is a category of Ungulates which itself is a sub-category of Mammals (which is also a category on the Horse page), which itself is a sub-category of Tetrapods which itself is a sub-category of Vertebrates which itself is a category of Chordates which itself is a sub-category of Animals. So you see it's a little odd to have Horses, Animals, Mammals and Domesticated animals (which itself is a sub-category of Animals) all as categories of Horse. I would suggest you just have "Horses" and "Domesticated animals" (because they follow different paths back to Animals). This comment applies to all the articles you've been updating with very high-level categories. In general, the more specific the category and using a few as possible without completely overlapping, the better. The Rambling Man (talk) 14:04, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I just realised that as soon as I was notified that I had new messages. I'm going back to remove them. :) Orashmatash 14:06, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you start the article, I will help you finish it. Racepacket (talk) 03:23, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The only reason I aborted it was because the EN article that I was going to copy and simplify from needs updated and it needs more citations/references. You can do it if you want, but frankly, I'm just too lazy to search for references and update it. :D Orashmatash 13:10, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I can't start the article. But if you start a very small stub, I will take it over and finish it. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 17:40, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but the EN articles just has too many problems for me to feel comfortable with converting. If you want the article created so badly, just create a user sub-page and start it there. Kind regards, Orashmatash 17:54, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user talk. But there's nothing to "AGF" there: this was the "Wikinger" vandal; anything he does should be met with immediate blocks, semiprotection and suppression of personal information. Thanks, – Fut.Perf. 05:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reel to reel tape recorder

Hi, thanks for your point of view. You know, I'm total greenhorn in this "wiki programming", but I think, there should be as many references as possible. Unfortunately there aren't many "simple" sources (refs.) for this topic, but my aim was to prove that I don't "lie" (i.e. my text is truthful) and secondly, I would like to "illustrate" some stuff by wikipedia.org articles. Anyway, you've propably noticed that there should be two charts, but I don't know, how to create them simply. Also, I'm planning to import several images there, such as international pictograms for R2R decks and some photos...honestly, this page is intended to be a"project" for my English lessons at the university, so I want to show some knowledge, but if you don't agree with certain expressions though, I'd be glad to discuss suitable synonyms with you. Bouchy (talk) 19:12, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The only real problem with that article was that you had used the English Wikipedia as sources, which we, unfortunately, can not accept. While some of the vocabulary used was a bit advanced, I can only recall simplifying about three things. You say you are total greenhorn with the syntax that we use here... Well, if you would like to know more about Wiki Markup (the name for what you called "Wiki Programming"), I would be more than happy to help you. Orashmatash 19:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Nations at the Olympics

Hi! If you create any more articles about countries at the Olympics, would you put them in Category:Nations at the Olympics? They should also go in the category for the country, if there is one. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 20:41, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that, I am was creating articles that were at most wanted articles, so I was just creating one article then quickly moving on to the next, and categorisation completely slipped my mind. Thanks for letting me know, when I create more Olympics related articles, I'll add them to the category. Cheers, Orashmatash 20:43, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Public transit

Thank you for your note. I saw that the headings in the article did not make sense, so I added missing information about financing. I did try to simplify each sentence on the added material. If you could give me a few examples of what caused the problem, I would find that a helpful way to learn. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 13:09, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Okay.
  • The money to build and operate public transit comes from ticket revenue, government subsidies and advertisements. That could be simplified.
  • Most—but not all—public transport require the purchase of a ticket to generate revenue. That can be simplified.
  • Alternatively, a proof-of-payment system allows riders to enter the vehicles without showing the ticket, but riders may or may not be controlled by a ticket controller; if the rider fails to show proof of payment, the operator may fine the rider. Needs simplified.
I'm kind of busy right now, so I'll find other things that need simplification. Work on the ones I have given you. I'll post more on your talk later on. Orashmatash 13:14, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks. You are a scholar and a gentleman. Racepacket (talk) 14:09, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orphan tag

I recommend not adding the orphan tag to articles here because that applies to almost all of our articles since we have a very small article base. It isn't really that helpful and makes the page its put on look worse. You aren't wrong in adding it, just that it isn't really that helpful. :) -DJSasso (talk) 14:43, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, AWB is adding them automatically and I didn't remove them since it was actually correct when it added them. I will make sure that AWB doesn't add Orphan tags anymore. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers, Orashmatash 14:45, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

AWB "More" tab

The "More" tab has three different sections.

  • Append/Prepend text
  • Files
  • Categories

Append/Prepend text

With this option, you can specify text to insert either after the end of the page ("append") or before the beginning of the page ("prepend"). You can't do both in the same run. You can specify more than one line of text. You also specify how many newlines (line breaks) should go between the inserted text and the existing text, up to 3: no newlines means the text goes on the same line as existing text, and 1 means it will go on a separate line. I assume 2 means there will be a blank line between and 3 means two blank lines, but I haven't used those myself.

Files

This lets you replace, remove or comment out a file. I haven't used this function. You could use this when an image file has been deleted and you want to clean up references to it, by either switching to a different image, remove the image, or just comment it out. There is an option to skip articles that don't have the file you're looking for.

Categories

This lets you do one of the following:

  • Replace a category: you specify a category to look for in each page. If it's found AWB changes it to a different category that you specify. I have used this when I wanted to move everything from one category to another category.
  • Add a category: AWB adds the specified category to each page. You can only add one category here; if you want to add more than one, you can do it with the Append function (see above), but you will probably need to move the inserted lines to the correct place in the page.
  • Remove a category: if the specified category is in the article, AWB removes it

For the replace and remove functions, you can tell AWB to skip pages where it doesn't find the category you're looking for.

Thanks for actually bothering to fix it, most of the time, people just allow it to be deleted. Again though, the fix will need to be simplified, but that can be tagged as complex, so it doesn't need to be deleted. I'll remove the QD tag. Thanks, Orashmatash 18:51, 20 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

We can start right now, if you want! Which article do you want to improve/create? DJDunsie (talk) 17:43, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I have a several articles for you to choose from:

Battle of PeleliuBattle of Iwo JimaBattle of Polygon WoodGuadalcanal CampaignPhilippines Campaign (1941–42)Battle of the SommeBattle of VerdunBattle of Amiens (1918)Battle of GuillemontBattle of Jutland

I think that it is best if we try and create an article from scratch, rather than just simplifying the English Wikipedia articles, because the en.wiki articles are very long and detailed - but they do have some good content on them, especially the VGAs there. Thanks, DJDunsie (talk) 19:09, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I agree there, but all of the WWI/II battles I know of have already been created on EN... Hmm... Uhmm... How about Battle of Passchendaele? I know that's already created, but... :-\ Orashmatash 19:12, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
We could do some research. I have a book on the US Pacific Campaign, with a couple of pages on each battle. About the Battle of Passchendaele, I created it back in May and that's probably a good one to do. Shall we do it? DJDunsie (talk) 19:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Question

Re this edit: do you know something I don't about placement of stub tags? --Auntof6 (talk) 18:35, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hehe, sorry about that. AWB is doing it automatically and I don't see a problem with it, so I didn't remove it. Is there a problem? –Orashmatash 18:38, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Not necessarily a problem. I tend to put anything that actually appears in the article (like stub tags) above everything that doesn't (like the persondata template), is all. I do have a problem with one thing AWB does, though: moving the BD template higher up in the article. I think BD belongs with the categories, but I think AWB doesn't know about it because it's not used in enwiki so it puts it where it would put a navbox template. Are you having fun with AWB? How are you picking articles to work on? :) --Auntof6 (talk) 18:42, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it's a really helpful tool to have handy. It's great for racking up mainspace edits and fixing typos etc. I am using "Category" and "Category (recursive)" at the moment. I'll probably move on soon, I'm getting bored with the categories. Many thanks for teaching me how to use it! :DOrashmatash 18:44, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
