changeHello, and welcome to Wikipedia!
I do not want to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your user subpage at User:Captain MarcusL, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's user page guideline. After you have read that guideline, could we discuss my concerns here? I'd like to hear your views, such as why you want the current page, and whether you might agree to change it to something else.
There are several ways we can deal with this matter:
- If you can explain why your user page meets Wikipedia's user page guideline, I can stop worrying about it.
- If you decide to delete the page yourself, please add "
{{UserQD}}
" to the top of your user page. An administrator will then delete it. - If we can not agree on what needs to be done, I can list your user page at "Wikipedia:Requests for deletion" so that we can discuss with other editors whether the page should be kept or deleted.
Thank you. PotsdamLamb (talk) 17:23, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
It says on the guideline that the user page cannot be an article. You may think that it is an article, but in fact, it is a brief description of myself. Captain MarcusL (talk) 17:26, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- First things first, you are using copyrighted images on your user page. Secondly, your page does look like an article with the infobox on the right of Michael Jordan. PotsdamLamb (talk) 17:30, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Infoboxes can be used on user pages, as the infobox is Infobox Wikipedia user. You could say the picture of Michael Jordan in that infobox could be misleading though, as I assume the user is not Michael Jordan. --Belwine • 💬 • 📜 17:33, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
I am not Michael Jordan, I am just using an image of him. Also, I don’t really want to put my real face on there. Captain MarcusL (talk) 17:34, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not expecting you to put your face on there, but just a comment that the picture of him in the infobox could be misleading. However, I don't think Michael Jordan is someone who would edit Wikipedia, so I guess it's ok. --Belwine • 💬 • 📜 17:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, I just like Michael Jordan Captain MarcusL (talk) 17:52, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- In my opinion, there's not a massive issue with your user page. If there is copyright infringement from the logos, then that's because of Wikimedia Commons.
Also, just so you know, your user page is extremely visible, so be careful if you are going to put information like your name on there.
Thanks, Belwine • 💬 • 📜 17:58, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
No, I just used an image of Michael Jordan on my userpage because I love basketball. Second, I never got a complaint about using those images. Captain MarcusL (talk) 17:32, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Jeanette Maus" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Belwine (talk) 17:53, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Did you copy and paste from EN Wikipedia? If so, please follow the steps here, otherwise, it is technically a copyright violation. Please indicate which version of EN Wikipedia you copied from, once you have done that, I will simplify the English, add some more references, and mark the page as patrolled. Thanks --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:10, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
In a new change to Wikipedia to the page "Captain Tom", you changed one or more words from one national type of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, please do not do that, even if you do not normally use the type of English the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours.
For subjects related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States, use American English. If it is a topic about another country or an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.
Other guidelines on how Wikipedia articles should be written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any questions about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit "Simple talk". Thank you. Belwine (talk) 21:13, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- Please remember: Dates in British English are like DD/MM/YYYY, not MM/DD/YYYY. Belwine (talk) 21:20, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! Can you please state wether the above article was copied from EN Wikipedia? If it is so, let me know which version you copied from and I'll help you with the attribution. Thank you very much! --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:23, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Citing sources and quoting
changeHi,
When you write or update an article and you use quotations of what people are saying, you must follow this guideline: When quoting someone. I also highly recommend using this nifty tool refToolbar. Also, please remember, the subject of an article has to be notable and worthy of an encyclopedia entry. We do not write just about anyone. --PotsdamLamb (talk) 03:08, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
An editor has requested deletion of Peter Harris, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2021/Peter Harris and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much.
