Wikipedia translation of the week: 2021-44
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! Islamic ornament is the use of decorative patterns in Islamic art. They can be broadly divided into the arabesque, using curving plant-based elements, geometric patterns with straight lines or regular curves, and calligraphy, consisting of religious texts with stylised appearance, used both decoratively and to convey meaning. All three often involve elaborate interlacing. The three types of ornament are often used together. Islamic decoration has had a significant influence on European decorative artforms, especially as Western arabesque. Translation no. 40 of 2021
I saw both of us haven't received the translation no. 40 of the year 2021. Do you have any idea about this? Haoreima (talk) 06:56, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- Omg, no. 38 also. Haoreima (talk) 07:09, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- Haoreima, the translations are given by MassMessage. I think the reason why those translations didn't arrive was most likely because someone forgot to give out the MassMessage. You can always see the current translation of the week on meta: m:TOTW. --Ferien (talk) 07:11, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Old English
Could you tell me what is the good way to learn Old English, Anglo-Saxon, Anglish & Middle English? I want to learn them. :) Haoreima (talk) 02:48, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) there is an old English Wikipedia --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 02:50, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: There is The Old English Wikipedia, but there's no Middle English Wikipedia since ancient language Wikipedia's aren't eligible for new wikis. But you can certainly find them at Wikisource which has old English texts in it (you can also start a Meitei Wikisource since there's currently no Meitei/Manipuri Wikisource). SHB2000 (talk) 06:39, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- @SHB2000 and つがる: Thanks for your valuable information! Dudes! :) BTW, what I want is not Wikipedia. My goal is to become an editor there at "ang wiki" but first, I need to learn the language. So, I want an old English learning site. And it's really surprising that Old English wikipedia (ang.wikipedia) exist and Middle English Incubator (enm incubator) isn't given a place for wikipedia status. And thank you SHB2000 for informing me about Wikisource! In fact, most of the Manipuri/Meitei language resources are stored in Bengali script since 18th century AD (300 long years). Everything written before 18th century AD were in Meitei script. And this 21st century AD is the only recent time for revivalism of Meitei script usage for Meitei language. That's why there's little modern time resources in Meitei script, and more abundantly in Bengali script. Well, I have collected a series of Manipuri books from the archive.org, written in Meitei script (for I choose them exclusively, not to include Bengali script written ones, though I can read both scripts and speak even Bangla). But I have a plan. It's that until Meitei wikipedia reaches 10,000+ articles, I will not start any other wiki project for Meitei. And currently, Meitei wikipedia is soon to reach 7k articles. And I hope my wish gets fulfilled before the February of the next year! Regards! :) Haoreima (talk) 09:42, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Wrongful deletion of a Wikipedia page
Hello Ferien... I would like to get to your notice of a genuine and legitimate Wikipedia page that was wrongly nominated for deletion out of bias & malicious intents by some editors and some people. The name of the wrongly deleted Wikipedia page is "ERICA NLEWEDIM". A well known and popularly recognized Nigerian Actress, model and entrepreneur... The name of one of those who wrongfully nominated her page for deletion is "Aranya". Please her fans are bothered and would want the page of their celebrity to be rightfully restored and protected from future nominations or tempering. Thank you! SmartKev1 (talk) 12:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- SmartKev1, there was a consensus that Erica Nlewedim was not notable at requests for deletion, see Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2021/Erica Nlewedim, thats why I deleted the page. Please assume good faith about other editors, they are probably all trying to help. --Ferien (talk) 16:05, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. And thank you other editors. We await the restoration of the page. SmartKev1 (talk) 13:35, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- SmartKev1, the page probably won't be restored in the near future because there was a consensus to delete at RfD. --Ferien (talk) 13:22, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you
Thank you - I've been registered here for a million years but only really started editing properly quite recently. I've been looking up as many of the "most common misspellings" as possible and editing them accordingly. Bobo. 23:03, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
David Fefolt page
Deleting that was a mistake. AugustusM (talk) 21:34, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- Any reason why? I could see there was much more of a consensus to delete it than to keep. --Ferien (talk) 21:43, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
He's been in the music industry for 40+ years, is known globally, had recording contracts with Polodor, Enigma, Metal Blade, and more, was in bands with David Ellefson, Jorg Fischer, Matt Sorum, Kenny Earl, etc..., toured with Joe Satriani, Nazareth, Triumph, Hurricane, etc..., had a Mtv video in heavy rotation... AugustusM (talk) 21:59, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
What was the "consensus" based on, if I may ask? AugustusM (talk) 22:00, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- There were more policy based arguments to delete than to keep. --Ferien (talk) 22:02, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
What would need to be added to make it right? AugustusM (talk) 22:07, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Nothing against you, but I think it's wrong that pages are deleted instead of contacting the creator and saying what needs to be fixed and give a time limit. AugustusM (talk) 22:12, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- AugustusM, that is exactly what was done, as you can see here and notability, the issue mentioned on the RfD page, is not really an issue you can fix. You need to show that they are notable with reliable sources like I mentioned above, you can't really make someone notable. --Ferien (talk) 22:16, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
I wasn't the page creator so I thank you for sharing this and taking the time to respond to my concerns. AugustusM (talk) 22:32, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

Please be bold and help translate this article! The Southern Crab Nebula (or WRAY-16-47 or Hen 2-104) is a nebula in the constellation Centaurus. Recent changes
- Mobile IP editors are now able to receive warning notices indicating they have a talk page message on the mobile website (similar to the orange banners available on desktop). These notices will be displayed on every page outside of the main namespace and every time the user attempts to edit. The notice on desktop now has a slightly different colour. [2][3]
Changes later this week
- Wikidata will be read-only for a few minutes on 11 November. This will happen around 06:00 UTC. This is for database maintenance. [4]
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- In the future, unregistered editors will be given an identity that is not their IP address. This is for legal reasons. A new user right will let editors who need to know the IPs of unregistered accounts to fight vandalism, spam, and harassment, see the IP. You can read the suggestions for how that identity could work and discuss on the talk page.

Category existence
I don't think admins delete categories just because it has less than 3 pages under content, for example en:Category:Sports deities. Haoreima (talk) 01:48, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- Is it true? Haoreima (talk) 03:23, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Haoreima, on Wikipedia:Categories, you can see
There should be a minimum of three articles that would fit into the category before a new category is created.
so we do have a guideline that you should have three pages in a category and sometimes admins delete categories that have less than 3 pages. I don't think they have a similar guideline on enwiki. --Ferien (talk) 07:30, 11 November 2021 (UTC)- Thanks. If the rules were similar, it deserves RFD. AFD backlog
Hi Ferien,
Currently, WP:AFD has a backlog of requests that have yet to be decided upon. All requests from Wikipedia:Requests for deletion#Dividing fractions have expired but have not been closed.
Is it possible for you to clear said requests?
Thank you, 209.232.149.23 (talk) 17:11, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- I will deal with those requests now. Thank you. --Ferien (talk) 17:14, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
hello @Ferien according to the discussions the outcome for the article shouldn't be delete, it's a waste to loss articles like that. Thank you 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 21:31, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Sakura emad. I did check through the RfD and as you saw, I did decide to delete.
- Whilst there were two keep !votes, one only gave one source and BRP said that there wasn't significant coverage, which I couldn't find either.
- The other keep vote focused more on the claims and your comment focused more on improving the article but reliable sources were not added when I closed the RfD.
- Of course, the article can always be recreated if there is enough significant coverage in reliable sources.
- Thanks
- --Ferien (talk) 21:42, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- fair enough thanks. 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 21:48, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
Re: Warning
Dear Ferien,
I don't think it makes much sense to warn these kind of vandals. As far as I know, they have also been warned by the abusefilter when attempting to save their edit and are therefore well aware that they shouldn't be doing this. As I'm monitoring the recent changes of all small wikis, warning them manually would also consume quite valuable time. Savh Talk 21:52, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- I understand with the monitoring small wikis part, I am a relatively SWMT member myself, but if vandalism reoccurs, warning really can help, even if they were warned by the abuse filter. Sometimes, seeing a warning from a person that your edits have been reverted can discourage you from vandalising. It's not mandatory by any means, but it is preferable, so if you do have the time and someone is vandalising again and again, please warn them. Thank you, --Ferien (talk) 17:02, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Please be bold and help translate this article! William Morrison (23 August 1855 – 29 August 1927) was a Scottish chemist. His background in chemistry piqued his interest in improving storage batteries. He concentrated on how to produce the most available energy for a unit of weight for efficiency in the working of an individual battery cell. Eventually, he developed storage batteries far more powerful than what had then been available. To demonstrate his batteries, Morrison installed 24 of them on a common horse-drawn carriage and attached an electric motor to the rear axle to be powered by them. Through various innovations, he developed the controls for the power used and the vehicle's steering so that the driver had complete control. Morrison invented the first practical self-powered four-wheeled electric carriage in the United States. His electric vehicle was the first to be driven in Chicago and in his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. This electric horseless buggy of the late 19th century helped pave the way for the hybrid electric automobile of the 21st century.
